some of you on this board know me, or at least part of my story, very likely most of you do not.. i am a 21 yr old male from chicago who finally mustered the courage to da myself roughly 6 months ago.
being a 3rd-generation jw, my grandfather was an elder 45 years, so this developed a reputation and precedence for me that i would one day be a co.. or go to bethel.
such high expectations, which i am happy i never fulfilled.
Reborn, I have to ask if you still live with your parents? If you do, it is best if you move. The best thing to do is finding new friends. I moved to an apartment with a roommate and now I take dance lessons, work out, met a nice lady friend, and I am having a good time.

I my opinion the title has to go to last year's Oscar winner, "Gladiator." I don't think that it was a bad movie, but better than "Traffic" or "Almost Famous"? I don't think so!

what i am talking about a movie that you thought was great, but is mostly forgotten by most people today.. well, my favorite overlooked movie is "a perfect world.
" in it kevin costner is an escaped felon who escapes from prison with another felon.
they then break into a house and kidnap a boy who is a (gasp!
There are two other films that I would like to mention.
The first one is "The Shawshank Redemption." The movie was made in 1994 at a cost of 40 million and only made 20 million. By all accounts it would be considered to be a bomb. However, when it was released on video, it was the most rented movie of 1995, beating other more praised movies like "Forrest Gump" and "Pulp Fiction." So the audience for the film was at the video store not the theatre. Interesting!
The second one is "Twenty Bucks." It starred Brandon Fraser, Elizabeth Shue, Steve Buscemi, and Christoper Lloyd. It was about a twenty dollar bill and the lives of the people that it passes through. Another great movie that nobody saw. Just as interesting is the story behind it. The original screenplay for the film was written in (believe it or not!) 1935! However, it was turned down by the major studios at the time and was forgotten. When, the screenwriter died, his great-grandson found the screenplay among his papers, rewrote it, and sold it. The movie was made sixty years later in 1995.

jukief, I can't believe you mentioned "Night on Earth."
It has to be one of the coolest movies I have ever seen. The movie is about five different cab rides that take place at the same in five different cities (Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki). If anyone can get it, I suggest you rent it or buy it.

over the past 3-4 years i've been hearing about a number of suicides that have been committed by jws.
whats even more interesting is that all of the individuals were male and they all had some form of a privileged position in the congregation.
(regular pioneer, elder, minsterial servant, etc..).
There was this girl that I knew who attempted suicide last year. She finally recovered, but I haven't seen her, so I don't know what became of her.
Anyway, my theory about people in high positions in the congregation who commit suicide is that they have realized that they org is a fraud. Now, think about it. If they leave the org, they will be shunned by everybody that they know, including their family. Many of these people have been in org for years or since birth. The org is all they know. They feel that they cannot function in the 'real world' or they feel guilty for having doubt. So, seeing no way out, they kill themselves.
It is so sad.
