  i learned this one from my FIL: ALWAYS prominently mark your property with your name....
  coolers, tools, sleeping bags... you name it, it is branded.... plus i keep a sort of "sign out sheet"....

  a JW would call who had 1) never called before but suddenly wanted/needed to
  borrow/use/sell something or 2) has the pattern of being a repeat of #1

  funny thing? now that i am on the "outs" with the congro, i haven't gotten
  any of that type of call in better than a year... the last one was a JW who
  had moved house and wanted to use our commercial rug cleaner rather
  than rent one....

  anyone ringing you just to use you or your stuff these days?

  i'm not but i know some jws that have drifted but when things like 9/11 catastrophes occur, they're right back at the kingdom hall.. do you ever worry that the great tribulation might occur and you will die?.

  it's been about going on 2yrs that i've been df'd and not even 1yr that i stopped going to the khall at all...but...i'm proud to say that as of last night i was going through my phone and decided that i needed to just cut out all those people that didn't matter anymore!

  you know, the old jw 'friends' (use that term loosely) whose numbers i've held onto all this time and don't need anymore.

  i mean, never going to bother with these people again.

  side of relief and freedom to think!

  @blondie... i hear ya, mate! i dont have a mobile
  and dread the thought of actually joining the
  culture of availability.... "call the house and leave
  a message" is good enough for me!

  dealing with a huge HUGE devastating family crisis,
  i started a fade before i knew what a fade was...
  not with the intention of leaving, just recovering...

  but i tell ya, once you get away from the indoctrination
  and busy work that keeps you from thinking, it is like
  a slow leak on a tire.... eventually it goes flat

  i was agonized for months, in a spiritual anguish..
  felt like the psalms were the script of my life

  vocatus atque non vocatus deus aderit
  called or not called, the god is there...
  i wept and begged to know the will of god

  i was ripe for the picking when i followed a series
  of links totally unrelated to JWs or <gasp> apostacy
  but i ended up on rickross.com and followed a link
  to a link and that was JWD.... the resulting severing
  of any lingering emotional attachment to the b0rg was
  mercifully swift and i wasted no time in telling my family,
  all of them "weak" or out/never "in" about the men behind
  the curtain and how all of it was a cult....

  that was it... i made one last stab at it for memorial
  in 07 i think.... never again!!

  i've noticed an interesting dichotomy in these discussions.

  as a starting point, i understand that we are all different --- there is no "we" here except that we have all been, or been involved with, jw's.

  but this is interesting..... some people complain about being "hounded" by elders and shepherding calls and previous "friends" and so on.

  i dont want them "coming after" me.... the LAST thing i want
  is to have to deal with "shepherds".... shoot me first!

  it would be nice, however, to continue to have social contact
  with people who had no problem accepting my services in so
  many regards, offered in genuine love and concern, instead
  of having them reject me based on a cult's dictates...

  i feel for them, but it is crap like that which almost makes
  me wish there was a god who would repay....

  we hear ya.... trying to keep 2 out of state kids afloat,
  pay our property taxes, pay out of pocket medical costs
  for an at home kid... it sux everywhere

  i hope lily tomlin was wrong when she said:

  i don't know if i, or smoeone else, shared this before but i thought it funny and odd enough to share again.

  imagine if you will, if we actually presented what we all know to be true about the beliefs of the jw's at the door when we were witnesses.

  after all, jesus message was to be simple; simple enough that even the poorest and most uneducated would be able to accept him and convert to christianity, no matter the flavor of kool-aid we were pushing.
