i'm a californian, but a good friend in london just texted me saying there's a blitz of about 50 jehovah's witnesses in croydon right outside of where she's eating loaded up with watchtowers and setting up a stall and a speaker with a megaphone.
she also says that some of them are women in wheelchairs and that they're rolling in front of passers by and blocking them when they try to ignore them.
she says all of the pedestrians are telling them to fuck off and leave them alone because they're not interested in a cult, haha.. is this something new that the society is encouraging over there (or even more scary, everywhere?
i have a mate who frequents croydon...
(lives in crystal palace) so i will ask her
to be on the alert and be prepared to
snap a photo with her mobile!
i am sure she would have mentioned
it had she ever seen such a thing...
and known what she was looking at!

so i've been working out of town the last month and i'm back home for a couple of weeks to attend a conference and some business meetings.
my mom while i was away has been concerned about my meeting attendance (haven't gon in almost a year, except memorial) - even when i was home she was concerned.
so today, when we met up for dinner - inevitibly, my meeting attendance came up as a topic of concern.
i was THAT mom for a while.... although several of my kids were
quite young at the time the eldest was skating for the doors...
it IS motivated by FEAR, heavily seasoned with love,
that desire to reel the wayward back in.... after all,
you WILL die at armaggedon unless you have been
kissing the ass of the GB and its minions, doncha know?
hopefully your mother will be able to shut off the noise machine
the b0rg constantly blasts with their fear-mongering about the
BIG A and the fate of the faithless and heathens so you and she
can continue to have a somewhat normal and rational relationship!!!

the po in my mom's congregation told them that at the next 1-day-assembly it will be the responsibility of every publisher to put 3 in the box towards the running costs at the assembly hall.
we were a family of SIX, paying for 2 hotel rooms,
eating out, fuel, yada yada, and then tell us we
have to cough up an additional $30????? srsly!!!????
since i've been out of the jw religion, i've had no desire to attend any churches.
although i've always liked the way many churches look with the (stained glass, etc).
growing up our kh was so ugly and boring to look at.
i am a full fledged member of the church of the kicked back
in that i dont feel any sort of urge or compulsion to have
affiliation, or faith for that matter....
i DO attend specific services if there is something esp
interesting being offered, esp musical guests....
i even attended a bible study course summer before last
as it was about the ecumenical effort for mainline Xian
churches to become "Reconciled in Christ" (RIC) meaning
they welcome and affirm the queerness of LGBT.... i was
very upfront that my purpose in attending was to be able
to make the appropriate lingo-based response to those
individuals who sincerely are troubled by what they feel and
what they have been told the bible wants them to think....
not EVEN interested in engaging any of those over the top
crazy fringe nuts who stand around with signs saying
god hates fags
other than that.... no desire to "go" to church, temple yada
i had the misery recently of attending the sad.. the bethel speaker looked and sounded like the usual corporate businessman after your money.. during his main talk, he praised a recent bethel member who left his college (aka university) course early to pioneer and join bethel.. that followed experiences from window cleaners, unemployed, parents home-schooling (aka child abuse - it is a basic human right to be educated) their kids and those baptised as children (youngest was 10).. the brainwashed dubs applauded every ruined life paraded on the platform.. these bethel speakers have been around long enough to know exactly what they're doing - they are evil men, ruining peoples' lives, breaking up families and masquerading as holy men.. their time will come when they face god - too late for the many ruined by their filthy lies and false hopes.. sorry to sound bitter, but to my shame i had a part in this cult as an elder.
what part of my brain did i lose to not see through this rubbish?.
better late then never though.
in defense of home-schooling, we had decided to do it
before ever drinking the k00l-aid... and when i eventually
enrolled my kids in public school, each of their teachers
remarked how articulate and informed they were, and
how much they added to the classroom discussions....
i admit there is a lot of "home-schooling" that is a disgrace
but some of us were dedicated and passionate about the
chance to show our kids the wonders of the world ...
the "first day of school" for my eldest, the mandated age
of formal instruction by the DPI, i told him "i really cannot
teach you anything, but i cannot wait to help you learn
everything!" <verklempt>

i know from the group work i am involved in
that the genuine lack of equality in several
areas singnifcantly affects the quality of life
within the LGBTQ community....
oppression seems to be an adequate description
i just found out that i have breast cancer on thursday (see topic http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/medical/190249/1/i-was-in-the-hospital ).
my sister has breast cancer too.
she has had it longer than me.
