i don't get around to visit this board very often these days.
still, when i do, i always come across a thread or two by former jw's who are now church members.
they don't look any different to me than jw's in so many ways:.
born and reared catholic
worked in some mainline xian
protestant churches, then
drank what they swore was k00l-aid
as of right now and probably forevermore
i have totally given up the love of the fairies.....

ive been studying for 6 years with jws.
they came at a vulnerable time, my best friend died in a car accident when she was 6 monthes pregnant, i was drinking heavily, no work due to agoraphobia, meddling with the ouija board etc....i felt they helped me, cured me if you like.

i was "low hanging fruit" having lost a brother and a son
in one calendar year, so i was easily recruited by their
teachings of paradise earth, resurrection and eternity....
i had 2 preschool kids at the time and 2 born-ins...
everyone is out, i have made amends the best i
can, saying what i felt to be true at the time:
i just wanted you to be safe forever....
glad you are able to see "the truth" for what it ISN'T!

i mentally left the org in march 2010. i stepped down as an elder after my lad got into trouble.
i researched the publications to make myself 'spiritually strong' but it backfired.. i was in mental and emotional turmoil, still on fs, the platform and meetings etc.
i had to force myself to conform to ever failing jw doctrine.. i announced to my family that i was not going back to meetings in august 2010 after the 'overlapping' joke of 'new light'.. i told the elders not to call.
i was nearly 2 years into a "fade" without knowing it
because i was so tormented at my lack of faith
now, about 4 years out, i could not be more alive!
happy, busy with community orgs, in school, working
on a 3 year plan to relocate.... living a LIFE
of course, not everything is rosy, in fact some of
it sucks, but i am not waiting for the BIG A and
i actually feel deep empathy for those misquided
and manipulated fellow travellers who are....
so sad to see that generational waste continue
today i received a mass-fwd email from a fellow employee (down here in baptist country) entitled the meaning of the flag-draped coffin.

i do.. when i tell people that i was a witness, nobody can believe it!
i enjoy telling them why i left the religion, the harm they cause, and the benefits of being out of it.. do you express yourself in this way too or is it only me?.
i JUST experienced this again yesterday....
an acquaintance, becoming a friend, and i had lunch in a little bistro that is owned by
a woman DF'd before i ever surrendered my brain to the b0rg... but she had a big
family "still in" so i knew about her and avoided getting to know her...
so i pointed her out to my lunch mate and told her about how for nearly 30 years
this woman had been shunned by her mother, now dead, her siblings and their
spouses and children, and now in some cases, grandchildren.... and why?
she didnt believe what they believed.... and my mate was aghast!
there is a JW i know from the KH i had attended at the tech college where J and I met
she said "he is such a nice guy" and i said "and he thinks you are bird food"
love those moments
i'm curious about what made you realize that your ex-religion was not "true"?.
i've had discussions with many religious people, and they're always trying to protect their beliefs, rather than allowing anything i say challenge what they believe.
was there ever something someone said to you, or something you read that maybe made you doubt your beliefs for the first time, or had a similar effect?.
when doctrine and fundamentalism clashed
with my maternal instincts, i pretty much had
determined that any god that would have me
sacrifice THE most fundamental bond on the
planet would not have me as an adherent
never looked back
never been more alive
i certainly thought i had, but then again it was
thinking generated by an ongoing manipulation...

it has been a few months since the whole nightmare began.. today her cardiologist released her to return to work.
she starts in 2 weeks.
i am glad there is such good news
