At what age would you dicuss homosexuality with your children?
by llbh inon recent a thread a poster here discussed about having discovered his daughter was gay.
whilst reading this my 11 year old son was looking over my shoulder, and reading along with me, some of the discussion was quite adult but respectful .
so i began thinking what age would you discuss these things?

really hits close to home here.... my 14 YO daughter has approached me with all trepidation several months ago now, telling me she was bi-sexual... i admire her for that forthrightness and courage as at the time i was not sure if i was in/out as far as the borg goes.....
for the record, i told her " i do not care if you are attracted to insects... YOU are too young for any kind of intimacy and so is any one else you might be attacted to.... too young for the emotional and mental rigors of a committed relationship, blah blah blah......"
i think it was in that moment i decided i wanted my kids in my life for all time..... and d@mn the judgmental and narrow viciousness of the uber-righteous....
that being said..... she later told me that she KNEW in 5th grade she was different ( and the shame and horror she felt sitting in the KH listening to damnation and judgment).... that age is about 10 or 11, so i think your child is ready for, at lthe very least, an introduction to the possibility that there are other lifestyles.....
now she has progressively revealed she believes she is a lesbian.... and i STILL dont care except i maintain she is too young for ANY of it..... and we are comfortable where it stands..... she rolls her eyes and i quote the studies in the Frontline report on the teen brain..... it is all good....

have any of u guys done telemarketing witnessing b4?
by XOCO ini've just started to come up with this random topic in my head and some of good/bad experiences with telephone witnessing.
ive done it b4 but i was so uncomfortable calling ppl and telling them about the bible and stuff.
sometimes the person on the other end of the line would ask me how i got that number ?or how do u know my name?

phone witnessing ..... we have to dredge THAT up too?
god forgive me, but yes.... not only did i do it, IN MY DRESS CLOTHES, but actually set it up at my home, which was used once a week for service meetings and for 10 years hosted the book study ( i know! i know!).....the PO was a photojournalist and he photographed my youngest daughter and her mate ( they were about 8 at the time) engaged in the act for submission to HQ in the hopes it would be used in a publication...... "oh look at those zealous little sisters"
is there a wailing wall somewhere? arrgh

I think was was taken today
by Elsewhere ini was walking to my car after work, it was very cold (low 40's f) and getting dark and a beggar woman walks up to me sobbing and crying about being cold.
she didn't want to go through another very cold night light last night (low 30's f) and she needed money to get into a local shelter.
yes, it costs $12 per night to get into a homeless shelter... that's texas for ya.

i know it becomes more involved, but in the past when an apparently homeless guy stopped my hub, me and our two kids at the time when we were coming out of a store andasked for money for food, i told my husband not to give him money and sent the hub into the local sandwich shoppe, where he bought him a footlong specialty meal and gave that to him......
ok bear with this, because at the time we thought we were in the truth, ok? after we drove away, hub and i, as newly converted, and OH so zealous, parked, went thru the inevitable bookbag stored in the trunk and selected literature to go back and offer the guy.......( i know, i know!)
when we found him again.... and HERE is the true action of godly behaviour here..... this guy was sharing his food with 3 other guys
we did place literature ( i know! i KNOW!) .... and when this homeless guy asked if he could hug me..... well, it had a huge impact that to this day reminds me how fragile we all are
was there a point?
oh yeah..... if you truly want to be sure that someone WILL get the help they are requesting..... like for that woman..... get her name and that of the shelter in question and make a direct donation to the facility..... cos if it turns out SHE was scamming, then some other person might benefit from your generosity

What is the last really fun thing you did?

my good friend and office mate's 87 YO mother moved to our town.....4 yrs ago she and i did the "circle tour" of lake superior..... she is very intelligent and very sharp and a really excellent companion
last evening i stopped over and took her some stew and puff pastry egg and ham pie, and we sat and drank tea and talked politics.... you know .... WORLDLY stuff..... it was an engaging and animated tete-a-tete and it set the tone for the rest of my evening.....
simple pleasures and all that
