i hold in my hand the nov. awake magazine entitled "technology - blessing or curse?"..
now, i understand the need for balance and moderation in using technology, as the magazine says - but could they come up with a more intelligent sounding title?
it makes the question sound as if abandoning technology might be a solution, a considered choice, a real possibility.

from time immemorial
a couple days ago i started having these flashbacks of back in the day when i was 17 or so and was a frequent outgoing public speaker.
believe it or not back then i was so naive in the fullest sense of the word, and none of the signs that i encountered then kicked in until years later.. i obviously could go on and on about the impressions and demeanor that i received from the big shots (elders, ms's) from these halls.
a couple that i remember were for ex., one time while visiting a congregation in southwest co i politely waited around to see if any of the elders or a head of a house hold would approach me and invite me for hospitality and tired of waiting around i decided to make that 5 hour solo trip back home.
the KH i attended had a great rep for
hospitality... lots of people offering to
feed and house speakers and CO...
older farm wives would bring the food to
the hall and invite others, esp elderly, to
join the speaker for a meal... down home
cooking at some of its finest
i never heard any feedback from outgoing
speakers about lack of hospitality....
upper mid-west folksy-ness i reckon
i find it hard to be content...even though i have a nice apartment, good job, good health, family and friends.
i'm of course grateful for these things but i feel that somehow i always long for something else.
when i'm single i want to be with someone...when i'm with someone i want to be free.
i believe one can be content
without being complacent
(defined as contented to a fault)
part of my contentment stems from
academic pursuits and political activism....
both big honkin' jo-ho no-no's
part of my contentment stems from
being able to tic off "steps" in my "plan"
on the way to acheiving my goal...
part of my contentment is an emptying nest...
my youngest 2 kids are getting ready to launch
and phase next of my life will find me prepared
to embrace as yet unknown opportunities
i am not completely satisfied,
but there is enough satisfaction
to venture a declaration of contentment....
so, yeah, i am reasonably content
welcome to all, including you silent lurkers --- and yes, bethel monitors, too.. apparently, i am defined by the watchtower society ( of pennsylvania and new york) as an "apostate".. however, i want you to know that i do not participate in any orgies.
i do not worship satan.
i am not addicted to, nor do i use illegal drugs.
hate to break the record of exemplary conduct....
but i will confess that i am an evil apostate
every other month or so, i buy a quart of java chip
ice cream and share it with NO ONE!!!! i HIDE it in
the outside freezer under the frozen peas....
i do it deliberately, with malice aforethought....
i plan to continue doing it....
i have no intention of repentance....

mom has no friends and misses association.
she needs this before she drives me nuts.

a hobby or craft group, a local library book club,
a life-long learning course at a local college or
tech school, literacy tutoring for adults....
geez, anything but the KH **shudder**
