Yuck. Reading this I can just hear the canned responses on stage now... what a bunch of propaganda...

I always rounded up. I would count a Saturday always as 2 hours, even though we were out maybe 1/2 hour, and the rest was driving and breaks. And I would add 2 hours of time for 'studying with my kids' even though I didn't. Just brought them to meetings.

'Paradise Earth' makes absolutely no sense!
by navytownroger inthe jw idea of 'paradise earth' seems to be full of holes.
will babies of baptized jws also be in the new system?
if not, how could the child's parents consider it 'paradise' without their children?

There were SO many holes in the stories. When I brought any up, the typical answer was "Just make it there, and you can worry about the details then"

The most inappropriate remarks from Jehovahs Witnesses
by jambon1 ini have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.
1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".
sick, sick, sick!

My wife (newlightforyou) was grieving about a friend of hers who died in a motorcycle accident. He was DF'd at the time. One sister 'comforted' her and said, "Well, he was already dead in Jehovah's eyes".
Another time, a sister told us about her mother's recent death. She said "she never was a Witness, so it's ok". How cold, wrote off her mom because she was never a Witness.

What's the most ridiculous thing that was ever said to you personally?
by iamthewolf5562 inwere you told that you werent "spiritually mature"?
you were "acting worldly"?
you need to "rethink your association"?.

"Everything said on stage comes directly from Jehovah"
And Mr. iamthewolf, it was your mom that said this, seriously! All I could think when I heard this, even a few years ago when I was 'in', was"WTF??"

Here are a few great questions to ask your study conductor:
1) Name 3 things you dislike about the organization, or being a JW. (If anyone says there are none, they are covering something up)
2) Have you ever had a discussion with any former members as to why they left? How do you (the student) have access to former members? You should ask to speak to some former members to understand their perspective of the organization.
These are appropriate before joining ANY organization, even obviously a job. It's good to ask about any negative things, and also very good to speak to former employees for a view into the organization. I've done this before while interviewing at a company. There is also nothing 'bad' abuot asking these, and you -absolutely should- get reasonable responses.
Don't accept a fluff answer, and don't allow the conductor to just blow them off. If he/she refuses to answer these, then this is a red flag. What are they hiding? No organization is perfect, and it is your right to know the reality of it all before you join.

The elders came last night and i stood my NEW ground!!! be proud!
by New light for you inso yes, the brothers came for "encouragement" and of course, my husband is out of town on business... so it was me and the kids.. so i did let them in, i like these brothers...these are some things we discussed.... 1. i went over how that stupid "obey" email got all this started, got me to divulge to my girlfriend how i was feeling about the whole religion.
about how at the end of the call she said that she can't associate with me anymore, and then right after that call/ 30seconds later while i'm crying a pioneer called and asked "do you consider yourself one of jeh witnesses anymore??
" and i thought that was crazy for someone to try to trap me when i was sitting crying on the phone, upset with the last call... i told them that for all purposes i am already dfed since noone will talk to me anymore, and only one friend called to see what happened, everyone else just listened to the gossip of whatever spread, and wrote me off even though i'm technically in good standing.

i told him everything i did, telling the elders off ... and his response? 'THATS HOT!!"
Yes, that's what I said. And if I wasn't 1000 miles away on business, I would have congratulated her appropriately...
