What does one need to interpret the Bible?
by insearchoftruth ini have posted some thoughts on this on earlier threads, but the pesky jws have approached my wife about a bible study again, but my wife has let them know that this time she wants to learn how to read the bible and then after she is able to do that, she may consider some of the other books.
i have a couple of concerns about this, firstly, from what i know, the jws consider reading thier literature on a par with reading the bible, in fact i am pretty sure that they will try to lead her back to the bible teach book and let her know that she is in essence getting the same 'food' this way as she would another way.. secondly, if she decides to study the bible, the questions from readers that has recently come out all but prohibiting independent bible study will most likely come into play.
witnessgirl provided a good course on this, let my wife know that we are going to read the bible, not study, which could be a loophole (but i doubt if she asks a jw about that they would see a difference, but my stubborn wife may), but i think my wife would say she wants to study, not read....... a pesky jw provided her with her copy of the insight books and she also has the reasoning book, but i want her to actually feel she can read the bible and take from it what the literature presents in itself, not the slant that any organization or person wants her to take from it, even though if she reads the nwt version (or really any version for that matter) there is already a man provided slant.

Why does it need to be "interpreted"?

Do you take Responsibility
by kerj2leev inusually the one that doesnt want to be friends anymore wont recognize his/her part in the failure.. in jg wifes thread about being friends with your ex the above comment was made.
in failed relationships it's usually both parties that share the blame.. in the past three years since my divorce i have come to except my part in the break-up of our marriage.
i have identified areas that i need to work on to be in a healthy relationship.

Whatever. Sometimes blame is deserved and earned. Sometimes a break-up is SOLELY or overwhelmingly one person's fault.

Anybody remember when southern congregations were integrated?
by Texman55 inas i think i recall, this happened in the fall of 1972. i was living in atlanta at the time, where it was a nonissue, there was a very pretty black girl who was very popular in the congo there.
but back in my much smaller hometown, there were still black congregations when i started studying in 1970....totally separate khs, totally separate circuit assemblies.
not sure if they had a separate co...probably not.. in fact my great uncle, the eccentric old guy nobody in my family had much to do with....been a jw for ages but not very popular in the kh either....had a little house directly across the street.....moody, cranky old cuss, but very independent thinker too in a weird kind of russelite way....he got df'd around that time and i think it had something to do with the integration issue.

My mother grew up in small-town Mississippi and then Memphis. She used to tell me about going to all Black congregations. They had visiting speakers and COs who were White though. She didn't go to an integrated congregation until she moved to Kansas in '75.
I am happy that that concept is foreign to me. My congregations were always thoroughly racially mixed.

still like the first season Dr. Who best, the one with Rose Tyler.
My favorite, too. I wanted Rose to come back permanently, she was the best side-kick, then Martha. Donna was put in place to get the middle-aged women audience, I couldn't stand her! David Tennant is adorable though so that doesn't hurt.
