a reply i made on another thread prompted me to post this.
i was going to do so on the other thread but that was really not the topic and i didn't want to corrupt it by flying off on another tangent.. i have no problems with disfellowshipping from an organization such as jehovah's witnesses.
i don't think a person should be allowed to remain within an organization while practicing things that are condemned by that org., things which they, themselves profess not to believe in.. my objection is to the shunning.
Utopian Reformist said,
But, if for sake of argument, a person understands the procedures and is a well-balanced competent reasoning adult, and is still confident and comfortable with the policy, then if that same person becomes the subject of inquiry and is disfellowshipped, it is just.
WELL, not necessarily. Injustices do happen in that judicial committee room. Many times elders are in way over their heads, wanting to oversimplify a case to get to its resolution. Or they may be swayed by some emotion, or even by dubious allegations of a third party.
I was comfortable with the judicial process only because I had not ever taken the time to think about its ramifications, what it really does. When the guns were pointed at me, I came to understand the toll it takes on people, and how things can become distorted due to the factors I mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
Frenchy, you said,
People are so different one from the other. That is a fact that escapes most elders on a committee who are trying to read that person’s heart. If they don’t see anguish on the person’s face or tears streaming down their cheeks they view that as unconcern or belligerence.......I say that the determination of repentance is God’s providence and not that of the congregation.Right on, brother! I guess I'm of the "not enough crocodile tears to satisfy the demands of 3 elders" class.

OHD, never mind me.

today i was thinking sometimes what people feel that others can't relate to isn't this whole history of having been a jw.. just curious, anyone out there feel that way?
i guess this is here because of the relationship bit, a bit general though i suppose.
Having grown up "in the trooth", I find myself agreeing with NN and Prisca about feeling like an alien!
But, Prisca, if the people we encounter truly have "unconditional love", wouldn't they try to reach out to us in a social setting, making us try to feel part of the group? That WOULD be loving. I feel fortunate to have found such friends, although they knew me from my childhood. One quit the JW's when he was 18 (over 20 years ago) and is married to a never-been-JW gal who has fully accepted my friendship. The other is a Catholic I knew from high school. He and I got recently reacquainted and he invited me to his 40th birthday celebration. There I got reacquainted with people I had ignored for over 2 decades, but they made NO mention of that ---just made me feel glad to be back in their friendship again!
So it's possible to find people "out there" who will try to make you feel like you belong.

wait on jehovah, is an interesting terminology.
it is used basically to stop an action from taking place.
the inference would be that you should leave it in gods hands and in his due time he will maneuver things to address the matter.
Judith,
I know I'm not Simon, but I have your answer.
Judges 4:21 shows that "Jael the wife of Heber" killed Sisera in the manner you described.

if anyone is interested, mamma mia is good fun; lighthearted and full of memories for those in their 40's.. just ask gopher, we went to it last evening.
our ears are still ringing..
"chow!
This is a fun musical, and it makes for a memorable evening! Almost all the ABBA hit singles are in the score, along with a few new songs written exclusively for the play by Stig Anderson, a friend of Bjorn Ulvaeus (Bjorn is one of the "B"'s in ABBA).
This play is good for all ages! When the worldwide tour comes to your area, be sure to check it out.

even after a bit of time has gone by - do lyrics to "kingdom melodies" still drift in anyone's head?.
it is over 6 years now -- yesterday and even still now - for whatever reason the song with the lyrics "the way of the truth is the best way of living" -- just that line kept going through my head!
it's driving me crazy!.
Precious gifts from God our children are, but to him they do truly belong....
They are gifts from God. He says use the rod!
Look to God, child-rearing to repay, with our children let's serve him each day! (dum-dum-dum)

Tonight my sister celebrated her 39th, at her in-laws' home. Again, it was a nice time for general companionship and conversation. My sister opened her presents, and there was a modest cake.
Nobody's head has been severed as a result of either of these celebrations, and the world didn't end.
I just had a couple of very nice, memorable occasions.

Frenchy,
Your suggestion (treat the person like you do all the others...)makes too much sense! It will never be adopted!
Ashi, when will JW's EVER start acting like humans with feelings? They're total automatons, as you well know! What would it take to get them "off the dime"?

is there a written or unwritten rule about who can or can't order a wt lib cd in the congregation?.
i ordered one several months back, and went to pick it up this week.
the bro at the lit.
Sorry, I have no suggestions about how to pry any literature (or anything else) loose from your local Taliban, er, body of elders. They're pretty much in charge!
Reasons? $$$ or control. They might fear that an inactive individual wouldn't properly appreciate the literature (or software in this case) and therefore wouldn't donate to the "worldwide preaching" fund. Or, control: a person like you isn't "spiritual" enough to benefit from the fine spiritual food (ahem) provided on the CD. So therefore, you don't get one! (My guesses, but be warned, I am a terrible mind-reader.)
