why are they called "good" byes anyway?.
surely it is only good if you don't like the person who you will no longer with?.

If you really want the etymology, "Good bye" comes from an old English phrase "God be with you". "God be" transformed into "Good bye" over the centuries.
Can atheist really mean good bye?

the april 15 issue of the watchtower carries an article entitled two pastors who appreciated russell's writings in which they claim that there was written support for the writings of c t russell from two leading evangelicals.. the names of the pastors (both waldensians) were daniele rivoire and guiseppe banchetti.
according to the watchtower, early in the twentieth century, banchetti wrote: "i say that none of us evangelicals, not even our pastors or theology professors, nobody knows everything.

So you're counting time against the JW's now, he he. The only need for caution is that if these people keep coming, you might have a hard time getting them to stop (once you've decided enough is enough).
But if you talk to them a couple more times, maybe you'll get used to it and get rid of "the shakes". View it as your own personal anti-theocratic ministry school!
As far as the UN/NGO issue, odds are they won't know a thing about it. If they do, they'll immediately recognize that you got your information from "evil apostates". It'll be interesting to see the reaction.

Yes, very strange.
Isn't it a bit of revisionist history to say C.T. Russell was "respected" by his peers / other religionists?
And why does the Society seek to hitch its wagon to a bit of acknowledgment Russell may have gotten 100 years ago? Haven't they changed practically every doctrine and prophecy Russell ever wrote?
The Society now is casting about, looking in vain for respectability to try to prop up its image. This seems to be a strange example of that.

Living on my own, I don't have family to look after. So I can get on here whenever I dang well please. Some days it's when I get up, and on work days it's after I get home. And I always check up on the board during lunch hour, to see if there's anything interesting to read and respond to. And when I wake up and can't get back to sleep at night. On the weekends, I get on before lunch and later in the day. *Hands trembling*
I only post on one other board, and it's http://www.gameshownetwork.com to talk about TV game shows (when I run out of things to read/post on this board).

guess what happened to me this past sunday.
i ran into one of the elders that was on my judicial committe.
there was a group of them at ruby tuesday's (restaurant) and they were obviously taking the circuit overseer out for dinner.

I ran into an elder on my JC during the holiday season, and he DID shun me (as I was DF'd...). He was there with a large group, but this place was all the way across the metro area from where he lives (because he was visiting his dad).
He sure didn't expect to see me! I just flashed him my grin, as I sat and ate with my DF'd friend and his wife (both decent, church going people, BTW).
I haven't heard from this one since, but I did shortly thereafter get a phone call from the elders on THIS side of town, apparently attempting to see if I wanted to be reinstated. (I wrote them back a letter, so they would have it documented, that I didn't wish for them to contact me any further.)

Yes evilchicken, this is a heart-breaking story. We have to have feelings for those affected by this tragedy.
I must say however, when I read the headline "Oregon man shoots family, kills self", subconsciously the FIRST thing I asked myself is, I wonder if he ever had anything to do with Jehovah's Witnesses. I didn't want it to be so. In fact, the Associated Press story in the Yahoo! news section omitted that fact.
But then I found out from this board that he, in fact, was at one time a JW, and my worst fears were confirmed. It seems like there is more and more of this going on, and I don't pretend to know why. I only sense that there IS a connection.

But your point applies quite well. The name-calling of "apostate" and "evil" is rather mindless. Most of us really tried to be good JW's, and weren't seeking to make trouble. But after so much SH** happens, a person can only take so much. Some of the actions of the "accepted" people (such as Quotes' wife and that handsome young elder she diddled with) are enough to drive a sane person nuts. A Bible proverb states, "mere oppression can cause a wise person to act foolishly" or something to that effect, and it is so true!
Those who call ex-JW's names are either hateful, or blinded by the WT Society's insistence on projecting a terrible image onto anyone who dares differ from it.

jws think that they are patterned after the first century congregation and that is what the gb wants them to think.
i gave and heard several talks on how we follow that pattern, but then i would read what is says in the elder book ( pay attention to yourself and the flock) in unit 6 a).
jehovah has an earthly household, or organization, to.
The elder's manual says that "Ancient Israel served as a pattern of how the worldwide Christian brotherhood of Jehovah's Witnesses in these last days would be organized as a God-governed people."
What a doozy! That sentence is full of erroneous logic and mistaken assumptions.
But to cut to the chase, I thought that the MAIN reason for organizing "the true Christian worldwide brotherhood" was to accomplish the preaching work "before the end comes".
Ancient Israel had no such preaching work. So how is it that their organization would set any kind of pattern for JW's? Perhaps in terms of rigidity, and in harshness of discipline?
Their claims are not true, as anyone who has read "Crisis of Conscience" can easily discern. They are not God-governed, rather they are governed by a majority vote of a few men in Brooklyn, New York.

i heard this weekend that a convicted child abuser was murdered in jail.
i knew him but i don't remember his first name.
we were in the same congregation together for a few weeks.
I apologize for saying that this was a fictitious case and for suggesting that this was entirely a troll post.
There are still conflicting stories regarding how he died, but that may not matter. The main point of contention is whether "the elders turned him in", since that is not the general way the WT Society and their congregations do things.
