A Video Shunning Xperience....
by AK - Jeff inmy g-daughter and i were in the video store this morning.
[she was out of school with a cough and fever - they won't let her back for 24 hours].. as we prepared to check out in comes sister rita righteous.
actually i jest here - rita has been df'd three times as a fornicatrix, married out of the 'truth' to a drug dealer, has raised three children who never accepted the religion, and has never, in my 35 years of her acquaintance been 'spiritually minded' or 'active in the service'.. anyway - i am freshly announced as 'no longer one of jehovah's witnesses', and apparently she has heard.

I was in the shopping centre the other day and spotted an Elder walking towards me. This is a guy who I had known for 25 years when a JW. We were Min Servants together and often did field service together. Great friends with my children as well. He became an Elder after I left.
Anyway he hadn't spotted me. Then he does! Talk about the look of a rabbit caught in the headlights. If I had been in a car he would be roadkill. In one smooth movement he turns and at same time "answers" his mobile phone. If only they could see themselves.
I just burst out laughing. People round me must have thought I was the mad one.

Verify - WT asking for old books for libraries, but burning them instead.
by truthseeker ini found this on e-watchman, can anyone verify this?.
http://e-jehovahs-witnesses.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2406.
burning and disposing of old books is exactly what the society wants, so that there is no paper trial.

In my old congregation I think we had every book printed by the WT. I remember we had big leather bound volumes of the Watchtower from 1879 onwards. Most of it all was left to the congregation by a sister who was one of the "anointed" in the late 1970's she was over 100 when she died. Often wonder whether they still have them all.

The Governing Body finally figured out that the Witness people are stupid. They're trying to sell all sizzle and no steak and it's working.
They used to have these dates and predictions, now they just have the predictions (no dates).
They used to have these "offers" of a printed hard bound book and three printed booklets presented with a memorized 6 minute sermon at the stranger's doors. Now they throw down a recycled paper folded tract and don't even ring the bell, and the Witness people think it's just great.Exactly what I was thinking. Its the usual, things are going bad for the WT. They face strong attacks from the outside now , especially since the UN and child abuse scandals. The Internet has opened up peoples minds to them, anyone with access to a computer finds enough information to put them off. Also the numbers of JW's leaving is hitting all time highs. They have to stop it.
This tract campaign is not so much aimed at the non-JW , but is to "upbuild" those still in. Lets have another "End of False Religion" campaign. Assemblies, conventions, Watchtower studies are all gear to make those still in think twice about leaving and to frighten them if they leave.
As said they can't set a date anymore, but they can "dangle the carrot" that the end is near. Emphasising the "end is near" part. Top it all off by making the next years text "The Great Day of Jehovah is near!"
They must be in their element, all muttering amongst themselves. "See the end is soon, so-and-so shouldn't have left" "They're going to get it for all thiose lies about the UN and child abuse"
Can't you just hear them.

From what I was told , was that each JW would get 50 tracts at least each. They were to only to give them to people who basically, answered a door to them. Probably so they can do their little presentation about the tract.
"Good morning, we'd like to give you this tract telling you that you are going to be destroyed at Armageddon. Because you're not nice, loving Jehovah's Witnesses like us." (Well it cuts all the crap out)
But it seems many are finding them just posted through doors or left somewhere like waiting rooms etc. Probably because if they were to place them as supposed to, then it could take a long time. Due to the fact they rarely get anyone at home these days. If I remember rightly from a past similar campaign brothers/sisters had them in their bags for months afterwards.

Beards, when were they banned?
by GramblingMan ini know it has been talked about before, but does anyone have information as to when jw started banning beards.
my wife is telling me that it started in the 60/70's because of the hippies, but i know i read somewhere on here that it was much earlier.. .

I remember an Elder berating a brother , who had grown a small goatee while on holiday, in the Kingdom Hall in front of everyone. That under no circumstances would he be allowed on the platform with the beard or any brother or sister be allowed to go on field service with him.
But moustaches were quite acceptable.
Then again I recall a visit from a Circuit Overseer who during one meeting asked what was wrong with a picture in a Watchtower magazine article we were going through. A sister said it was because a brother had a beard in the picture.
The CO turned round and said "There is nothing wrong or unscriptural about a brother having a beard."
You could have heard the gasp from the congregation a mile away.
But no brother still dare grown one.

Should Elders show concern for the sheep???
by KAYTEE ina couple of instances in my last congregation - .
1. my wife and i live in an old converted water mill, a couple of hundred yards from the river wye, which has a habit or rising and falling 25 feet in a matter of hours.
one particular bad year the whole county of hereford was almost under water, it was shown on tv with all the fields flooded as the river burst its banks.

When I was going through the worst period of my life. Acute clinical depression and attempted suicide. Not one Elder out of 8 offered any "real" sympathy or help. I spent six weeks in a psychiatric hospital, not one Elder came to spend time with me, to talk and help. They even managed to turn my wife against me. Getting her to make me leave the family home, a "spiritual danger" to the family I was. If even one those Elders had come to me and said "We'll help you get through this. We'll give you the support you need. We'll get you back on your feet again". I could well still be a JW today. Instead I got leave the family, go to another congregation, incidentally were the Elders were even worse.
It was this totally unloving attitude that shook me more than anything. For 25 years I had believed I was in "Jehovahs loving organisation" , congregations run by "loving shepherds" who cared and looked after the sheep. During this period I often wonder whether I was guided to what led me on the path to learning the truth about the Watchtower. I spent 2-3 years research on the WT learning about their lies and deceit. During that time I had one "shepherding" call from one Elder. That was to tell me to get on field service, which would help me.
Then in August 1999 I stopped attending meetings because I now knew what lies I was listening to and no longer believed. I expected a call from Elders. Nothing! not even an invite when the Memorial came round. Two Elders only lived a 5 minute walk from my house. It was September 2001 before two Elders called. Why did they call? There was a campaign to get "inactive" ones back because numbers were dropping. Not for any concern about me. I wrote a letter of disassociation the next day.

Is it me or does the guy on page 1 look as confused as I am about the blood fraction policy? Clearly the Watchtower is looking for anything to get out of the refuse blood transfusions policy it became tangled up in.
Yeah he must be confused.
The article cites Watchtower articles to look up.
He is looking at an "Awake" !!

What Kingdom News Was Similar To # 37?
by jimbo indoes any one have a picture of the one that was similar to # 37?
when was that one distributed?
thanks for the info!!!
-
Gordy
I was informed the other day that each JW got 50 of the tracts to distribute.
If both congregations that I knew, had a combined total of 200 brothers/sisters. That means they had 10,000 tracts to distribute. In a territory with a population of 85,000.
Which means that there will be 1 tract to every 8.5 persons.
That means if I was given a tract then 7 other people don't get one. That means 88% of the population is not going to get a tract.
Yet they are put this over as some great preaching/warning work.
What kind of warning is only given to 12% of people?
Some JW's seem to think this tract will spark persecution. Persecution from who? 1 in 8 people??
Also this is not the first time they have used the "False Religion" theme.
Watchtower 1996 1st January .
p. 11 par. 12 Jehovah Gives Peace and Truth in Abundance ***
"As evidence that the pouring out of these plagues continues, the talk "False Religion’s End Is Near" was delivered worldwide on April 23, 1995, followed by the distribution of hundreds of millions of copies of a special issue of Kingdom News."
