The thing is that they were, when I was in, the type of JW who you would have thought was a "good strong spiritual" Elder.
They would be Elders always and never leave.

I recall someone saying that the number of Elders and Min Servants, in UK had in the last 10 years dropped by a third. ?

I remember an Elders wife saying to my wife, that if I ever became an Elder, she should be prepared to hardly ever see me.
I know we go on about "Elders wives" but this one hated her husband being an Elder. because he was always so stressed.

If You Want to Expose JW's, Get it Right!

jehovah's witnessses, (and esp their leadership, the governing body) are guilty of so many things, that one has to be careful of the tabloid rumors swirling around them.. it's probably helpful to review first of all what jw's are guilty of.

they are absolutely guilty in their efforts to control active members under the dictates of the conscience of the gb.

every other watchtower article usually has big time references to how we shouldn't be like those self righteous pharisees in jesus day for all the rules, followed by another article next describing what one can (could) or can't (shouldn't) watch on tv, wear for clothing or hairstyles, etc.

Former JW's (I speak for myself here mainly) I think are surprised at how little "worldly" people care about JW's.

I agree.

The WT always puts over to its members that the world is frightened of them, because they have the "truth".
That the clergy are scared to death of them, because thye "expose Christendoms lies"

Yet in the time I have been out now, 10 years, I have never come across any person who gives a single thought about JWs.
I have asks many what do they know about the beliefs of JWs.
What do they say?
"They knock on your door to SELL mgazines/books."
"They don't have blood" (Sometimes I get they don't use doctors etc)
"Don't celebrate birthdays/Christmas" (Surprising number of people don't even know this about JWs)

Its usually round about this, that people struggle to think of anything else JWs believe.

This is after 130+years of Watchtower exsistence and preaching!

As the clergy, don't even give them a thought. Even when they do its usually to do with some JW teaching.
I know from my ownPastor that he is to busy to worry about what JWs are saying.
He is to busy really caring about the people in his congregation.

I agree about the "subliminal art" that is I always thought a bit dubious.
I mean how many of us have looked at any picture, and seen a face or something in them.

Bethel monitoring websites, like this one , yes.
I was told this by a now long gone JW, who installed computers at a Bethel branch.
What they didn't like that it was obvious that "active" JWs were posting on such sites.
Even Elders giving away their little secrets etc.
So they had to "demonise" the internet to try and stop this.

Also they are good at pointing the finger at others and what has happened in their churches etc.
While ignoring the fact that exactly the same thing goes on in Kingdom Halls.
But they are much better at keeping it secret.

Why no coverage of the Russian ban in the media?

i mean not just in russia but world wide, wouldn't this be a great oppotunity to educate the public about this cult????.

As has been said there are bigger news stories to cover, recession, war, Tiger Woods.

But why doesn't the Watchtower make a bigger things about this?
Why aren't they putting the news about this ban about, sending to all major news agencies etc.

If it was a Catholic church, or Evangelical group you could be certain they would make it know.

But the WT always seems to strangely quiet about such things.

But they will use it in their own publications to its rank and file as evidence that they are the true religion,
because of this "persecution" in Russia.

luke 22:2. and the chief high priests and scribes were seeking a way to kill him, for they feared the people.. .

if jesus was a purveyor of miracles and could call down troops of angels...why did they not fear jesus himself?.

if they believed jesus had the power to judge and determine eternal life or destruction, why did the priests not fear him?.

Because they didn't believe he had the power to judge them.
Fear of "the people" is far stronger.

Special edition Watchtower / Awakes for the spring

heard a few rumblings from my jw contacts that there are special public edition watchtower & awakes to coincide with the memorial / easter time 2010. the theme is very much jesus oriented - picture of him on the front cover etc.

publishers will be encouraged to order extra copies for the field.

i don't think there is any memorial invitation distribution planned - this seems to replace that.

most christians assume that the gift of salvation is free.. but gods promises are very conditional and the word "if" is used nearly 1600times in the bible.. the bible is an "iffy" book and the promises of god very conditional.. i would be interested in a christian perspective as to why they think salvation is a free gift-.

i think they would be very upset.

the police would think they were crazy because i would make it look good.. .

I seem to recall someone doing that at one time, can't remember were now.
They put a decorated tree on the roof right above the entrance and a big sign saying "Merry Christmas."
I seem to recall they did it on a weekend that the JWs were away at a Circuit Assembly.
So it was up there for nearly a week.

Science Fiction recommendations

so i have my daughter (a 33 year old choreographer turned psych student) reading rah.

so far she's read double star and tunnel in the sky, she stayed up all night friday night finishing tunnel.

she's working on the moon is a harsh mistress now.

I would like to read them again
