Scientology vs. Jehovah's Witnesses

little update about myself real quick: haven't posted in a while, got curious about what was on the boards, so i had to log on.

amazed i still remember my password.

a jw friend of mine (who is unaware i'm an atheist), and i were talking during lunch at school when he brings up scientology.

Not because of the belief, but that us JDubs believe essentially the same thing, just with different mascots.

Agreed.

Consider also the similarities with Mormonism.

I have been considering for some time the similarities between Rastafarian-ism and JW-ism.

Both believe in "Jah" and "Jehovah God" being the Divine name.
Both believe the Messiah has already returned.
Both preach another Mediator other than Jesus Christ.
Both are looking forward to the destruction of "Babylon" and "false religion".
Both believe the original teaching of Christ have been lost and corrupt by Babylon and they are restoring the truth.
Both are looking forward to the fire raining down from Heaven at Armageddon.
Both have their alternative heaven, "Zion" or "paradise earth".
Both have a replacement theology i.e. biological Israel has been wholly replaced by their own "spiritual Israel".
Both believe their movement is a literal fulfillment of the 144, 000.
Both abstain from involvement in politics.
Both follow OT laws to abstain from certain foods.
Both religions have been around for about 100 years.

When one reads the New Testament it is clear their is nothing new under the sun, all these falsehoods have been around in different guises for at least 2000 years.

Conscious Class: Do you still go in field service?

Jehovah is extremely hard to please

Indeed he is. You can never do enough to please him.

My Heavenly Father is always pleased with me. He loves it when He sees the image of His Son being formed in me.

Even when I make bad choices He sees the best in me. Sure, He lets me learn from my own mistakes once in a while. I am finding I like following His advice more and more and listening to His Spirit.

Whenever I fall He picks me up. He never condems me. When I do well He takes pride in me. He is there in the good times and the bad. He is trustworthy and dependable.

Above all He loves me, not for who I am but because of who He is. Is the THE best Father you could ever dream of. When you know the Father's love you are secure, even in the storms.

To get to know the Father you need to know the Son.

John 14:6-10 (New International Version)

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know [ a ] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Lol how foolish! That would mean when God created man he already knew they were going to sin and therefore would have to send his son to be crucified. Does that make any sense?

I have heard that response from JWs regarding various topics. They know nothing of the wisdom of God 1 Corinthians 1:21 , 1 Corinthians 1:25

Obviously you do not know your bible either. Jesus' death was preordained before the creation of the world.

(For Christians) Why should Muslims question the Koran?

i'm wondering about this hypothetical scenario:.

suppose..... a young muslim (non-radical/moderate) in a middle-eastern country has no access to the bible or any form of christianityhe's keenly aware of other non-christian faiths and the loyal adherents of those faithsaside from a blind faith in the koran (and, in turn, allah) he is an intelligent and logical thinkerhe doesn't see any flaws in his reasoning, no matter how illogical it may seem to outsidersokay, now based on the above suppositions..... what kind of introspective thinking might lead him to identify his own flawed reasoning so that he eventually realizes the koran is not a revelation of god?

is such a thing possible?

Look at the fruit that "Christians" have brought forth, based on the bible, the Crusades, Slavery, Apartheid, Misogyny and on and on.

With respect, these Muslims are talking about smuggling four pounds of Anthrax into the US and spreading it like confetti over the White House lawn to kill 330, 000 American in a single hour in the name of Allah, the god of the Qur'an. What similar terror plots do you hold born again Christians to?

To condemn the book on the basis of what the readers of it, or more like, the believers in it, have done, and still do, is a little unfair, and will not hit the mark.

So the some followers of the book kill thousands in their 'holy war' but the book is no way to blame?!

All members of all religions would do well to examine the religion as whole, along with its sacred writings.as LWT said.

I have. My conclusion is it not a faith of peace but one of world domination by force. Convert to a Muslim, worship Allah or be killed as infidels.

Scriptures out of context

i'm working on my column nad came across this thought by ray franz regarding how often the wts takes things out of context.

they take a scripture from one places in the bbiel and match it up with a couple of other scriptures from 2 or more other places and piece them together liek one huge jigsaw puzzle.

and then present some kind of doctrinal picture based on their out-of-context jigsaw pieces.. that is like taking 3 sentences from various books on history and putting them together to create a new theory.

I agree Lady Lee, but then the NT itself does the same. It takes quotes from the OT and applies them to the Christ but the context of those quotes do not always apply directly to the Christ.

Everything that is written of Yahweh in the OT applies directly to Christ John 1:1, Hebrews 1:3, Colossians 1:19, Colossians 2:9, Matthew 1:23
