Did You Ever "Learn" Anything Because You Went To The Meetings?
by minimus inyears ago, you could attend a meeting and hear a well researched talk or give an answer from the watchtower that had some "meat" on it.
i remember in the 70s when witnesses used to look forward to ruminating on what might be a "new point" or a veiled possible new understanding of a doctrinal view.. these days, the only thing you could learn from a meeting is that brother so-and-so got deleted or "is no longer a witness".. what a bore!.

Vote:Which are worst small town or big city JW's
by superman ini've lived in both small towns and big cities.
i would have to say that small jw's are by far the worst.
they tend to be much fanatical, close minded, creepy, and wierd.

Small town gets my vote. They make it thier business to know all of your business. The smaller the town the worse the gossip and backbiting.

Our JW Friend told by Elder "Satan is using a Pedophile to Break your Faith"
by flipper ini was given permission by a jw friend of my wife and me to post this experience.
she's anonymous and posts on the board.
she is married to a witness still but is fighting on behalf of children in her congregation to not be a next victim of a pedophile who attends her congregation.

Jehovah's Witnesses NEED To Feel Special About Themselves
by minimus inbeing a witness is like belonging to a club.
certain "qualifications" are needed to get into the membership.
and like most clubs, there are different levels to establish how low or how high you are on the totem pole.. for many (without a life) being a witness puts you in a category above anyone else.

There is one other way for the Witnesses to feel special. They feel great about themselves if they can become real good friends with ones who have many material possessions. They seek out ones who have $$$$$$$$$$$$. I guess it fills the loser void in thier lives. I have seen it so many times.

Is Ann Coulter just a joke persona like Stephen Colbert?
by Elsewhere inhttp://nymag.com/news/politics/22322/index3.html.
after reading the above article i have to admit that i started to wonder if ann coulter is a comedian who is sticking with her persona 24/7... like the old-school comedians.. .
here are some things said by stephen colbert or ann coulter.

I like Ann. She believes some of what she says, you have to be able to read between the lines.

Yes to all the above ansewers. Healing is a process and progress is being made. Regrets-you betcha. I wish I had woken up sooner and did not raise 2 children in the JW. I got both of them out so that is a real blessing. We are healing as a family, very happy about that.

ExJWs either BAs or atheists -- do you agree?
by parakeet ina week or two ago, a poster (i forget who; sorry) noted that exjws tend to fall into two camps -- born-again christians or atheists/agnostics.
there doesn't appear to be much of a middle ground, e.g.
joining a traditional, mainstream religion.. the observation has some merit to it.

Personally, After having spent over 20 years as a JW I can no longer tolerate religion. I see it this way, there is a difference between God and religion. Religion is manmade and they like to add, subtract and put thier own twist on things. I still believe in God and try to be a good person. Iam very sour on religion/going to church.

How Many Here Have Done Extensive Research While a JW or When Exiting?
by minimus ini loved research.
i used to pride myself in my knowledge of different watchtower society info, especially organization procedure.
so i always enjoyed digging into facts.

Yes, I researched. I wish I would have started sooner but no, I was an obedient dub. They said to not look at apostate info, it was from Satan etc etc. I had finally had enough of thier sh#t and began to look into all the failed prophecys. I came across 586 as the destruction of Jerulsalem, not 607. I found lie after lie and just stopped going.

Big Love!!
by 4mylove indoes anyone here watch it?
the hubby and i watch it every sunday night.
it's interesting to see the similarities between mormons and jw's.. i noticed that they too have a tie to the east coast due to their prophet.. they are also a fairly new religion, 160 years i believe.. they also recieved a "divine" message from a human prophet.. do witnesses have places like the mormons due where you can visit their founders past life?

Love that show. They treat women as inferior, more as an object to serve "The Principle". In other words, baby machines. The women dress matronely as do the JW women. The women take direction from the men , primarely the husband. The husband is responsible for all of thier spiritual well being. Men work to support the family and women work to support the principle(if they work at all outsid ethe home). They look to the book of mormon as thier major guide as the JW use the Watchtower. They live and associate with other members only not wanting to be a part of the world.
