Zepp,
seems like while a number do not go out to read the paper copies, it's still nice to catch up with what's up in the Org. And then maybe be able to help those shielded from the real info. Doing Awake I'll be fine anyways.
Hippikon, thanks.
do not become forgetful hearers .
unlike the israelites in the wilderness, je-hovahs people today enjoy gods approval.
they have become forgetful hearers.

"if god is for us,who will be against us?
(b) when identifying the true religion, what is the pivotal question?.
isaiah 65:13, 14.. .
It is no more a wonder why the WTB&TS seeks to justify it's position. The situation is not much different from that of children who, finding themselves in a dark alley, sing loudly. The motivation of such is to instill some measure of confidence against the fear within. Every now and then, a feel-good article emerges on the pages of the Watchtower. The Society would engage blow it's feeble trumpet, producing discordant tones, and hurting itself.
****"They use and publicize God’s name, Jeho-vah".
To this day, the WTB&TS has not been able to provide any proof that Jesus ever pronounced the name of his Father. In all of Jesus' recorded verbal communication in the bible, he always referred to God as "Father" "My Father" and such titles. How can Jesus Christ be wrong? What about Yahweh? Nobody knows what the actual pronounciation of God's name was.
********"How do those having the true religion avoid having to learn by trial and error?"
A carefully worded question. Yet, the WTB&TS have learnt by trial and error. The changes (not adjustments) in the blood doctrine along with its inconsistencies, the reversal of the policy on transplantations, pyramidiology, Beth Sarim, Beth Shan, the war against medicine, the several end-of-the-world dates (1914, 1925,1975, and 1999/2000) have thrown up the Society (not God) as having miscalculated, and more surprising, they have failed to own-up to their own mistakes.
****"They are organized in the manner of the first-century Christian congregation."
Frequently, material in WTB&TS publications would villify Christendom for the Clergy/Laity situation. This has been the flagship reasoning in the campaign agaist Christendom in general and Catholicism in particular. The Society continues to deny the existence of a similar practice in the JW fold. But what about the District Overseer (DO), Circuit Overseer (CO) Branch Committee, etc etc designations? Are individual JWs expected to give these a measure of 'respect' beyond the normal? The answer is a resounding YES. It's a case of the kettle saying the pot is black. There should be a shedding of that unfitting garb of superiority.
"Is it presumptuous of Jehovah’s Witness-es to point out that they alone have God’s backing?"
****Of course, it may not necessarily be presumptuous for Jehovah's Witnesses to claim they have God's backing. They have the right to. But to do that and claim in addition that others do not have God's backing is going beyond the realm of reason. It is definitely presumptuous for any religion to claim that it alone have God's backing.
In these and similar statements, the writer or writers of this article express their own opinion. The opinions are, amongst other things, designed on the selfish aim of making rank and file Jehovah's Witnesses, humble and teachable people, many of whom know not "their left from their right" believe they are good and others are bad. They definitely would not be presuming to be speaking the mind of God. And they are not.
would appreciate any info or experiences on this subject.... a brother is disfellowshipped, 2 years later reinstated, five years later disfellowshipped again, immorality, 4 years later reinstated, becomes elder, 8 years later runs off with pioneer 16 yr old , divorces wife , dumps girl, remarrys 5 years later, appointed elder again, i believe due to the buddy system, how many times do'es a person have to be disfellowshipped before they say no to any priveledges let alone being an elder again ?
"In short, Is Jehovah really with Jehovah's Witnesses? Think about it."
Something really worthy of thinking about. From the teachings of Jesus Christ in the bible, it would be difficult to come to a positive answer to such a question. With the right information - which the WTB&TS attempts to prevent its members from accessing - the beliefs and practices of the Society cannot hold up to the scrutiny to which they have subjected other religions.
i recently started doing some studying of jehovahs witnesses, and i find most everything so logical, and the people involved have been so nice to me.
i'm 30, and currently am not associated with any denomination.. what i don't understand is how the word "cross" got translated into the bible if it's not right.
aren't we supposed to believe the bible?.
aChristian,
that post was insightful. Thank you.
i have an assignment that i have to complete for my child development course and i need some help.
i know that jehovah's-witnesses do not allow blood transfusions...but...is this they do not accept blood being transfused into the body, or is it also out of the body?
(ie: donating blood).
Hello Jason,
I would like to point out that while the official position of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (WTB&TS or, the Society) is that no Jehovah's Witness (JW) should donate blood for storage, later use, or proceesing, the Society allows the use of processed blood fractions donated by others. So it could be rightly said that the Society has nothing against the donation of blood, except when the blood is that of one who is one of JWs. And also that a JW could use the processed blood of others but could not donate his/her own blood for processing.
ros,
This quote,
"A religion that teaches lies cannot be true"--The Watchtower, 12/1/91 pg. 7
is a constant reminder of the holiness of the Writers of the Watchtower. It is for me the ghost that won't stop chasing me in my sleep. Sometimes, I tend to think ignorance is bliss.
here is some sage advice from the wtbts!
on page 23 of the may 15th, 2001 watchtower, in an article entitled 'building a spiritually strong family' paragraph 9 says the following.. there are dozens of magazines, hundreds of books, and thousands of internet websites offering advice on how to rear children.
very often "the information conflicts" says a newsweek special issue on children.
But why does the Writing Department keep on making statements like these? What is the effect on millions of innocent Jehovah's Witnesses who will take their words as those of God? Innocent people who, like the people of Nineveh, do not know their right from left? Ha! It's either that I begin to doubt my sanity or the existence of Truth. SIGH. So who knows the Truth??
just read this in the latest wt july 1st 2001 page 11 par#14:.
"if we live according to god's word, we receive jehovah's holy spirit.".
there ya have it.. all ya need is a bible, live it and your anointed.. they now determine who receives holy spirit.. wow!.
JUSTAMOM,
read last week's study article, paragarph 19. Ways you can get Holy Spirit are: Attending Meetings, Bible study, and Going out in Field Service.
its strange now how i find such a huge contrast between the words of the gospel accounts of jesus and the interpretation of those words by the wts.
to me it seems there is little of the gospel jesus in the wts attitude to sinning and to sinners.. i recently reread lukes account of when jesus went to the home of the pharisee, simon.
during the meal a woman of the city, a sinner, bathed jesus feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
Interesting thoughts there, Thirdson.
The concept of forgiveness is absolutely alien to the JW justice system. There's nothing like it. You have to earn the love you're shown by the brothers. And if you slip, you're on your own. Look at the recent attempt to reiterate the position of the elders in the 'arrangement' for forgiving a sinner.
Despite that the scriptures say that the sick one (let's leave the inserted 'spiritually' word alone first) be prayed with, this is usually not the case...A striken person walks up to an elder to say he's committed a sin. The elder is more interested in getting the details of the encounter, and referring the matter according to the books. The 'sick' one is not prayed with...It's all a 'works' based system of belief. The need to justify every affection by works is somewhat a negation of the free gift of life.
"There's no truth in the world..."
the society publishes an average of 22,000,000 wt and 19,000,000 number of awake magazines every two weeks.
if we assume that 6,000,000 of each go toward the number of active publishers as their personal copies.
that leaves 16,000,000 issues of wt + 13,000,000 for awake = 29,000,000 that are to be used for disciple making.. multiply 29,000,000 by 26 = 754,000,000 average yearly printing.. divide 754,000,000 by 288,907 (number of baptized in 2000) = 2609. yes, 2609 number of magazines (not counting books, brochures and tracts) must be distributed in order to recruit one new member.. now for the number of hours; .
Defender,
well, things aren't that bad. Actually about half of all printed material remains with JWs. Six million's only the number of publishers. Add the copies for the children and all that, plus all the copies that remain unplaced. that should improve "fine tune" your figures by some nice number. We aren't doing as badly as you think.
