Is This a Universal Characteristic of Religion?
by hamilcarr inthanks to all who participated in the moral values discussion, i think it was a 'high'-quality (wink at zico --- from 'the highest year') debate.
some posters rightly claimed i was too rash in my generalisations of religion and atheism.
so, i kept on searching for the universal characteristics of religion, i mean those features common to all forms of worship.

Moral Values of an Atheist
by hamilcarr insome thoughts spinning through my head .... what does it mean to be an atheist?
it means you cannot imagine your homosexual neighbor being slaughtered by a loving god at judgment's day, it means you don't consider the primitive tribe described in numbers 31 that slew midianite men and raped innocent virgins to be god's first covenant people, it means you don't believe mankind is so perverted that it is in need of salvation through a man who came 'not with peace, but with a sword', it means you have high moral values that apply not only to the members of your denomination but to all men.. h. .

what do you think about greg stafford?
by hamilcarr init seems greg stafford has disassociated himself from the watchtower society?.
do you think his new attempt to reform the society - he claims that 'christian witnesses of jah' are jehovah's witnesses - stands a chance to spur on changes or is he just 'forging' another split group that will fade out quickly?.

GB = College of Cardinals and pope?
by hamilcarr inheard and seen on youtube:.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlgppzmz0ne.
this [gb] is a group of individuals that have come from all over the world and whom we believe are directed by god to help us understand what is contained in scripture, just as other religions would have their religious leaders, those to whom they look so do jw, but the fact that we believe that there is a gb, a f&ds class that we call it whos helping us understand the bible no more makes us a sect than it would make catholics a sect because they believe that the pope and the college of cardinals have the ultimate truth for catholics - philip brumley, jw general counsel.

Fun with study article April 2008
by hamilcarr inperhaps it is not surprising that in lands where many have received such an education [at college or university] belief in god is at an all-time low.. w2008-04-15 repudiate "valueless things".
perhaps it is not surprising too that in lands where many haven't received such an education, crime, violence, war, deprivation, starvation, child death, female suppression and mind control are at an all-time high.
is this not a clear fulfillment of the words paul wrote to timothy that we are living in critical times?

Making a case for evolution: answer to ID advocates
by hamilcarr into all defenders of intelligent design: it is wrong to assume that evolutionary mechanisms cannot be empirically observed.. i'll give only one example to show evolution is all around us:.
fish are becoming smaller and growing more slowly in response to pressures introduced by fishing, scientists say (google ulf dieckmann).. researchers call this fisheries-induced adaptive change, showing that harvesting drives evolution towards smaller fishes.. many people think evolutionary mechanisms require millions of years to bring about such drastic changes and that it is therefore impossible to empirically observe adaptive change.. it is, however, becoming more and more clear that only two or three decades are needed to provoke large changes, in particular when pressures are high.. although some of darwin's are outmoded and easy targets of id advocates, these data perfectly fit in with the mechanisms he predicted to steer evolution..

what is the official JW view on bible students?
by hamilcarr inwhile visiting some bible students sites, i wondered what the official jw view on these organizations is.
are they part of babylon the great simply because of refuting the post-1916 developments and the governing body?
as far as i know, they do not adhere to any of the false teachings jw like to refer to in debunking the rcc and traditional protestantism, such as hellfire, trinity, immortal soul.
