my favourite uncle died about two years ago (non-witness) and my mother couldn't tell me .

earlier today i went round to the cathedral square of the city where i work for some lunch and i had the misfortune to sit near to an ol'boy witnessing to some people who were too polite to respond.

he kept going on about truth.

Can this logic be refuted?

i was an elder until march 2012 until i resigned.

i then stopped going to meetings in october 2012 and have enjoyed 9 months of freedom that i have found to be jouful!

i loved learning ttatt and sites like this and jwfacts.com have been excellent.. i told the elders that i needed a break and that they should not contact me unless it was a social visit and true to their word they have done that.

Hmmm... as I recall you're quite correct. Yes, they stated that you inherited the traits of the donor - they even went so far as to say the same applied to blood. I'm fairly certain they also quoted about a recipient receiveing an organ and taking on some the personality of the prison inmate donor. (Although, how they could know this I'm not certain as I thought all donors were anonymous). I'm fairly certain of the basic facts - it made a huge impression on me at the time!

How they will refute all your research I can't say. Your research seems solid but you're dealing with a basically, irrational set of human beings.

To my mind you've gone a down a path they fear to tread because you've used the 'logic' word - they don't cope well with logic!

... I am disfellowshipped but the circumstances were, in a way, forced upon me. (I am in control of ALL my actions so there really is no excuse in the end- it's all down to me)

However consider this...

In 2002 I discovered my, then 14 year old, daughter was not mine. My wife had an affair but, although some JWs had an idea of this never told me - which I suppose is fair enough in a way. But, they shold have informed the elders according to their rules! You can imagine, this marriage broke down although we did try to fix it but to no avail. I 'looked elsewhere' and ended up living with a delightful lady who is now my wife. Marriage wasn't possible earlier because I couldn't get a divorce. A way to control me into 'returning?

I was 'disciplined' for my adulterous behaviour/marriage and was 'disfellowshipped' because I wasn't repentant! However, it was never public knowledge as to what my ex did, she was repentant and has remained a witness in good standing. In the end I did make it known to all and sundry EXACTLY what she did! Why shouldn't I?

Where does this leave me? Basically, I never want to have anything to do with JWs and am disgusted by their lies and child abuse scandals, etc,. So, now none of my relatives (aside from my 'daughter' and my son who are no longer witnesses) will have anything to do with me. But, and this is really bad bit (as if it could get worse) my ex can still associate with my mother, daughter and sister... although only her daughters want anything to do with her. The irony of all this? My mother has met my (present) wife before I was chucked out and thinks the world of her and knows we are ideally suited. Did she come to our wedding? Nope.... too much to lose and it wouldn't be right! Neither did my sister although all my children did. My middle child did get on ok with my wife before the 'Christian' organization of JWs 'redadjusted' her thinking powers. Now there is no contact. I even have a new grand-daughter whom I have never met!

What happened to 'family business' somebody asked. I think that was trumped by the old statement, "we should treat them as if they have died".

When you get down to the nitty, gritty of that monstrous statement what it really means is they have killed us. Let's not runaway from this... this basic idea stems from an older publications which likened the treatment of apostates to stoning back in Israelite times. I remember them writing, "but, of course, it is wrong to do that but we can treat them as dead to us" --- Murderous bunch of half-wits!

My favourite uncle died about two years ago (non-witness) and my mother couldn't tell me This year (Valentine's Day as it happened) another uncle died (92) and I found out by reading the 'hatch, match, despatch' section of the local newspaper on-line of where I used to live. I'm furious, as I would've liked to have paid my last respects to them both.

Earlier today I went round to the Cathedral Square of the city where I work for some lunch and I had the misfortune to sit near to an Ol'Boy witnessing to some people who were too polite to respond. He kept going on about truth. It was more than I could stand and I went into total anti-witness mode.... . So, in front of these others, I asked him just what is truth? Hmmm... interesting.

His take on any single thing was that Satan had got hold of me. I said, "there are some Church people over there (by the Cathedral Portal) who say the same about you!" He was on about 1914 and the signs of the times... nothing ever been like it before. "What about the Bubonic Plaque throughout Europe? What about Genghis Khan and his march/conquest across Asia". Apparently, I'm not to believe all that! "Satan's tricks"

An eye-opener to these other people! I then couldn't hold back from expressing my disgust that my mother, sister and daughter are unable to talk to me and yet 'you' don't break up families! He must be an elder cos I mentioned about the UN scandal and the letters that were circulated at that time. He said he would look into it as he had access to them all.

I tried the well known "millions now living will never die' got changed to "millions now living may never die" idea. He completely missed the notion the Society changed it to suit their stance. His response, "Quite true, millions may never die" - FUTILE!

Still, I felt better - and the couple who he had 'cornered' thanked me and walked off! Just wish I could've given it a bit more thought and constructive approach to refuting his claims rather than the impromptu rebuttal he got from me.

Oh... and I never left off reading stuff here - just been trying to fall back and recapture my heart and mind.

Good talk with mum and dad

she's 77 and both mum and dad have been witnesses for nearly 30 years.

they've been pretty hardline in their time but just recently things have changed.

today, to my joy, mum wanted to celebrate her birthday so i bought her a big bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates (yeah i know, not very imaginative) and intend to take them out to lunch tomorrow when i've got more time.

What evidence is there for the miracles of the Bible OUTSIDE of the Bible?

ok. this is something i've wondered about.. people of certain religions tend to use their own holy book as evidence for things in itself.

this seems very circular to me.

using the book to prove the book in my view is pointless.. i am not aware of any of the 'miracles' of the bible or the quran as having any substantial evidence outside of themselves to give credibility to the books themselves.. has anyone come across such evidence?.

Many, many moons ago I raised a similar question. I'm fairly certain I got some sort of response to the effect that the Romans in Rome were concerned about Jesus' miracles back in Judea that he had to be silenced. Alledgedly that 'fact' was recorded in some secular history but I never had the research tools we have now and so it got dropped - but not forgotten!
