Sometimes it bothers me, especially the new wrinkles and graying hair. But I also enjoy this age"54" because I'm finally taling some control of my life and not doing certain things because it's expected. I also have a greater regard for people and their feelings. But most of all, I can look at my kids and see what fine adults they have become and it makes me very proud. And I have 3 of the greatest grand children in the world! So I like my age.

Childhood Baptism
by torn in two son intoday, one of the few jw friends that i'm close to got baptized.. i always knew he was a little more into it than i was, but i thought that with high school coming for him (i'm a year older than he is), maybe it would open his eyes a little, and he would see the world differently.
with little contact with him because of seperate schools for the past year, i didn't find out the news until just before our convention started.
when he told me, i had this singular moment of panic and deflation, but i gave the guy a big hug and squeaked out a "congratulations" knowing he's two hours from shooting himself in the foot.

wide awake at 4 am
by chickpea inby a whisker, i missed it being "that call", the one that changes your life forever.
2 am, the phone, the sheriff, the 16 yo, the mishap on the road that, in the big picture, is really just a frikkin inconvenience and another goddamn output of money we dont have.... .
i am pretty sure the hammering of my heart will ease up in a bit.

All parents have nightmares about getting that kind of call. I'm just glad that your son is ok.

Will there be sport in the new system?
by african GB Member inif so, what types of sport will be played?.
i know the gb always bash american football and wrestling, claiming they are too violent for jws.. but what sport do you think jws will be spending their sunday afternoons watching or playing in the new system?.
if you were to choose a sport for certain famous jws, past or present, what would it be?.

I doubt it. Well, if that time ever came to begin with. But as you know, competiton is "frowned upon" so it would'nt be any fun anyway.

The reporting of field service time
by lepermessiah inwere any of you really bothered/still bothered by the practice of field service reporting?.
there was an old post on here that got me thinking how the practice got started.. instead of simply being a tool to monitor the progress of the faith, or to see if the work was done "throughout the earth", it appears to me that it was just a tool used to keep the presses rolling and to see how much literature to produce - along with controlling the rank and file.
the average jw gives it no thought, its just another "blessing" from the organization when you hear the monthly reports, etc.. the organization is so statistics-driven that they make jesus out to be a ceo with people who need to meet their sales quotas.i'm sure he really wouldnt care if peter and andrew got 20 hours one month and john got 25. wait, maybe thats why john was "beloved" .

Two years ago when I first joined this forum I started a topic about service time. I wondered how many used to add extra hours to their report . I know I would sometimes add 1 or 2 extra just to make it look a little better.I'm sure others did the same thing.

It was sad looking at all of my congregation members yesterday!
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini went to the meeting yesterday and found it to be a sad experience.
(i've been fading over the years and down to 2 meetings per month).
i looked around and found that there are no new members.just family members and friends.

I used to feel the same way. I'd look around at all the older ones and there were very few new ones coming in. Finally I just could'nt do it anymore. My mom is still in and going strong and scared to death that I will die soon at Armegeddon. I feel sorry for her.
