yes. Quite a few, quite often. Not my thing anymore, but I was a bit troubled as a teen and used drugs to escape.

How many of you Ex Jehovah's Witnesses married early and it was a disaster?

you marry early becasue you can't have sex.. i was married at 19 and divorced at 50. the only thing that held it together was our involvement in the jw's.
otherwise it would have been over in less than 5 years.. my kids are not witnesses and have a terrible relationship with their mother, as she is always trying to shove it down their throats.. this is still happening.

Insurance Benefits? Since my line of work doesn't provide insurance, that is really the only benefit we have from marriage. Otherwise, our commitment is worlds deeper than any piece of paper.

I've just become a father
by jwfacts ini have been married for 10 years and have two wonderful step kids, 15 and 21. being a jw i did not want a child as life seemed so pointless.
things changed for the better since leaving and i am now the proud father of a big baby boy zac - 9pounds (4.1kg), 52cm long and huge lungs.
my wife is filipino so the baby looks very asian at the moment.

Did anyone experienced racism in their old congo?

very unchristian and so the opposite of what they preached.

My in laws are in Kauai... they always received this haole kindly, but I did hear a lot of that while there. Not my inlaws, as much as others in the hall. It was one reason my husband left so young, he said it was so racially divided in general... in the "world" and org.

That is strange, because the family that half raised me were from Mexico.. I'm white with green eyes, and I always felt so welcomed by everyone when visiting- even in the smaller rural areas. People I didn't know used to come up and touch me, even at meetings, because of my eyes. I don't remember the details, but I remember my "mom" saying it was superstitious in nature.
That said, the same family freaked out when I told them I was marrying a Puerto Rican brother, or if I danced with a Cuban brother at a dance. So they definitely had issues within the family.
It varied from racism as I generally perceive it, in that racism generally indicates feeling superior to all races. While they tended to feel some races were inferior. Minor difference, but a noteworthy one imo. It seems to be a prejudice in response to oppression instead of an inflation of self that I typically relate to racism. Almost an attempt to claim a higher position in some racial Hierarchy.
In general I don't feel there was more racism within the org, but it also wasn't non existent. It seemed pretty on par with the regional world around us in whatever congregation I was in.

We used to do that in school all the time... I was surprised to read that it was a fad, I think it is a very old practice. I think we started doing it around 4th grade. I know many adults who still practice this in more refined ways.

For us it didn't end bad, we have a good stable relationship... 10 years now!
However, we both feel we were to young to get married (19 & 21) and would wait longer if we had it to do over again. It does make things really tough to get married before you really even know yourself.

When I was a teen some of the brothers I knew wore hemp necklaces that can't be taken off, they were always under their dress shirts at the meetings and I don't think anyone ever said anything to them during other events... of course I never hung with the real spiritual crowd.

So what about young loves....wish you could go back?
by oompa inthere was this awesome girl i truly fell infatuated with at 16...laura harris from washington, nc.
it was mutual, but she was 18, and in dub years those two can be huge!
missed her for years, and when i think about her, i get a smile with eyes closed....same thing with betsy from dunn many years later.....we were both married and to gooda dubs to be bad with each other....damm it.............................oompa.

And if you're just talking infatuations... there was one brother that I had my "first crush" on when I was like 11 and he was like 20- obviously not going to happen. He got married, later divorced, and when I was 17 I got to make out with him. It was awesome, but I will always regret letting him leave that night being a gentleman. ;o)
I'm not sure I'd want to run into him anymore though, I prefer to remember things the way I do.

I'm really just so happy my young puppy love didn't work out. I only had one that could be considered anything more than a fling and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for him, and care about him so much... but my current husband and I are just so much more compatible in every sense.
