I tell most people I become friends with that I was raised a JW. I have a lot of quirks to my personality, somehow I think it helps people understand. lol. Not really people I know and see, but people I actually befriend. I'm not a big social person though, so that number is few.

Women - Do You Know What Men Really Want in a Relationship ?
by flipper inno, it's not just sex !
lol!
contrary to popular opinion !

I wanted to kick you, JK after reading your reply. ;o) If I am honest though(lol), I don't feel it is my job to intuitively know what most men want in a relationship.
I don't expect my husband to know my needs either, it is up to each of us to communicate our needs. So in a relationship it is more important to be in tune with what I want and need so I can communicate clearly. If he does the same (which mine does) than we don't have to interpret what each other want... though we do always try to be aware of each other as well.
I will say though that I don't think it is a woman/man issue. It is a partner issue. Just because another woman can articulate what she needs from a relationship, that doesn't mean it is what I need in my relationship. I just don't think of it in such a man/woman way. I am not partnered with a variety of men, just one... and I do attempt to understand his needs and meet them as an individual, as he does for me.
When you try to compare a variety of women (or men) and use their contradictions to "prove" that they don't know what they want or that they are confusing, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. We are all complex individuals and you can't interpret much of anything from me based on my gender alone.
After 10 years I do have a good understanding of my husband, but if I were to find myself with another man, I'd essentially be starting over.

Were You Ever Counseled Because Of What You Wore (or didn't)?
by minimus inafter reading the thread about what is acceptable to wear and not wear in a factory run by jehovah's witnesses, i wondered whether any here ever got counseled or in trouble because of their fashion sense or attire.

AlyMC
yes... lol... quite a few times.
But they weren't nearly as picky with me as I hear they were with others. I was sort of an unusual teen in that my Dad "fell away" and I went independently from 15 on. My Dad never had his heart in it, he just felt as a single Dad he had to provide us religion and kind of fell into the wrong religion.
Because of that, I got a lot less flack than some of my friends. They were mostly just trying to keep me coming, and because I had no parent to lay down the law I don't think they quite knew what to do with me.
But yes, I did get gentle counsel a few times on my choice of clothes. I wasn't the most modest sister around. For a JW, I was (intentionally) the type you didn't bring home to mom.

Are We Doomed To Repeat Patterns?
by saywhat29 ingosh darnit, this is my attempt to pull off a minimus-esque thread that will eventually die, but just a question that has been dragging around in my head as of recently.
i've been on this psychoanalytic kick for some time (for such a time that i know 'psychoanalytic' is not the right term to use but it fooled enough of you when i said it, and that's all that matters)- especially about family dynamics, patterns, and relationships.
i've been analyzing myself recently and more importantly i've been thinking about myself and the history of my relationships with those i love.

I don't know, it hasn't really been my experience. My Dad and I are so much alike in our core, but I really feel like he tried to change some cycles and I just picked up where he left off in my own family. The only thing I did much like him is leave home early and bum across the country at a young age...which I don't really consider a mistake. Otherwise our choices have varied quite a bit and shown kind of an evolution of sorts.
I have observed a lot of people within a cycle though, and I not really sure what makes that happen.

JW LOOPHOLE ON BLOOD IN PRINT!!
by Burger Time inok just read this article and didn't see it anywhere else.
anyways in this article the liason committee gives permission for a "forced" transfusion.
the article basically points out the loophole!!
-
AlyMC
I know twins who must be at least 13 now who were born premature. In 5 minutes the Doctors had court orders for transfusions- and the family were never questioned or made to feel bad about it. I thought it was always understood that if there was a court order than you had done what you could?

Ben & Jerry's is my favorite brand of ice cream. I'm not a big ice cream person, but I adore theirs. I love "coffee coffee buzz buzz buzz" which I think you can only get in their storefront.
We do their ice cream cakes for birthdays a lot and the chunky monkey mixed with a chocolate variety is really good.

Did You Consider Yourself a "Good Witness"?
by minimus inwere you considered by others as "the cream of the crop"?
.
did you view yourself as a pillar in the congregation or were you "spiritually weak"?.
-
AlyMC
I was mostly "weak". There was a period after I moved out of my parent's house and before I married that I was considered pretty "spiritual" but lead a very double life- I just didn't advertise it.
My family was always fringe witnesses. Actually, I think the "lift" that made me be perceived as extra spiritual when I moved out was because I went on my own without my parents dragging me.
I would periodically live with another family during my youth, and they were one of the pillars in the hall though.
I married into one of the mega spiritual families- all but one of the male's in my DH's family are or were elders/servants/bethelites/etc. His paternal grandfather is the only "unbeliever".

Anyone know or have heard of these individuals?
by Outaservice inanyone know of virgil sterling, michigan, then santa barbara, ca then louisana/miss?

I think I know the name Virgil Sterling (I'm from MI) but I would have to ask my Dad to jog my memory about him... because no details are coming to mind beyond a mental image. There is even a chance I'm confusing a "Brother Sterling" with another older gentleman whose first name was Virgil... I'm not much help, am I?
