once upon a time, a very long time ago, i told a wayward witness friend of mine that i thought that the society was fascist.. he immediately corrected me "nope, they're reactionary".. he was right!
.. and that's the beauty of it!.
for many of us, reform of the watchtower has become a fool's dream.

many skeptics assert that the bible must be wrong, because they claim that the ark could not possibly have carried all the different types of animals.

Hoob, you say that evolution cannot be falsified.
The Bible is divinely inspired and inerrant throughout.
The great Flood of Genesis was an actual historic event, worldwide (global) in its extent and effect.
By definition, no apparent, perceived or claimed evidence in any field, including history and chronology, can be valid if it contradicts the Scriptural record.
According to these statements quoted by rem the biblical flood you argue for cannot be falsfied!
The reasoning is like:
1) The bible is inspired.
2) The bible (as we interpret it) says there was a global flood.
3) Any evidence contradicting 1) or 2) are to be ignored as they are "always subject to interpretation by fallible people who do not possess all information".
Strangly enough that same 'interpretation by fallible people' is done on the bible itself but this is um...okay.
Sheesh!
hmm uploading the image looked fine, however i do not get the 'attach selected' button only 'delete selected'..... linking it didn't work either.

while watching the history traveler channel's story on lourdes, i heard an interesting phrase: "fantasy prone personality" and looked it up on line.
i think it's pretty interesting.

I fall in both the sceptics- as well as the fantasy prone category...
Interesting articles!

i cut my eye-teeth on the your will be done book, and oh how fascinated i was to have the "visual" of that dream-image, and the conviction that it was the wonderful fds who, for the first time, had revealed that light on god's word.
even when i had read some of russell's works, the same explanation was offered, and so (naturally, as the good little dubber that i was), i assumed that the wts had always taught the same about this passage from daniel.
but then, last week, i came across this interesting little tidbit (
An interesting and late admission! It has the same feel as the sheep-goats flip-flop and higher powers.
Do you have these WT's on pdf or something? It's really interesting stuff!

part of the watchtower's response to theodicy -- the problem of why an omniscient, all-loving god would allow evil -- is that adam and eve were given free will and chose to exercise their right to disobey god, hence bringing sin, evil and death into the world through their genes (of course the genome has been mapped and no evidence whatosever for that idea is established, but i digress).
let's look at this problem of evil a little more closely.
a common objection to the jws is "why didn't god just create adam and eve so that they would not sin and, hence, there would be no evil?
Your reasoning is sound. However, I am not aware that the WT teaches that "God has both free will and will not -- indeed, cannot -- do evil".
I am aware they say he cannot lie, which demolishes any claims of an omnipotent being. Heck, even a child can do such a thing yet, an omnipotent creator of the universe cannot? LOL
The problem of evil is a spearpoint in atacking any claim of a benevolent, loving God. I have lots of fun using it.

Evolutionists have through a number of methods made evolution practically unfalsifiable. No matter how the evidence turns out some sort of evolutionary scenario can be constructed to save evolution.
Not true. There is potential evidence possible that, when found, would put the theory into question. One such find could be for example a T-rex with a Homo sapiens in it's belly. However the theory of evolution has undergone ruthless atacks and testing and is still standing. It was not devised to disprove God for it does no such thing. When it was formulated people were very sceptical about it. It took a while even in the scientific community to take hold. When there are mountains of evidence an honest scientist has no choice but to use the model that has the most backing.
Don't think for one second that evolution is a conspiracy by the godless, for if anyone could disprove this theory there would surely be a Nobelprize in Biology. It would bring fame and honor to such a person for it would uproot everything we know about geology, biology, astronomy and countless other fields. That would bing a major paradigm shift.

as the saying goes, "you only live once".
with that, after being a witness for 15 years it was just time to move on to something else.. .
yes i believe the witnesses do not have the ultimate truth as they believe they do, which helped in my decision to move on.
Pope, well at least Santa can be traced back to a real living person!

after all the dust settles it appears that the only thing the wts can hang its hat on is that jesus approved what the wts was doing to further the kingdom interests in 1918/9 - no matter the changes of new light before and since.
so just what was it that the wts doing at that time?
selling copies of the finished mystery printed in 1917. courtesy of heraldmag.org here is the text of that book http://www.heraldmag.org/olb/bsl/library/comntary/rev/finish/vol7.pdf at sites like freeminds and shaun's research there's some good brief analytical work on many of the 1500 "errors" contained therein.
the ONLY religion teaching the truth about the human soul, the trinity, hellfire, future paradise earth, while all the rest were teaching falsehoods.
Which is a lie too, because there were many groups with these teachings. They had a common decent so to speak: all were off shoots from Miller's movement. They were, and are, not much different from other Adventist groups.
