i had a discussion with an 'associate' i used to know back in my meeting days last night.

he really did show what it means to be a brainwashed victim of the watchtower.

i told him about false prophecies, and how the wt claims to be a true prophet of god.

You are not blaming God! You are blaming them for assuming the role and authority of prophet, while history shows otherwise.

In fact you are saying they don't follow the bible. Is this strange? No. The entire nation israel left God over and over (according to the bible). Surely if an entire nation can fall to apostacy so can a human organization. claiming to be His organisation proves nothing. It just adds to the acusations against them. The sit on the chair of moses so to speak, just like the pharisees.

when studying the roots of jw's I came across the same thing: they learned well from Miller, Barbour and other Adventists. If an expectation fails there are several options:

-Claim it was fulfilled, but invisible. "expecting the wrong thing at the correct time"

-Redo your calculations find a maze and rescedule the date ahead by, oh, let's say, ten years?

-Claim you have been deceived by Satan himself.

-Claim Jehovah made the false prediction.

-Blaim it on the individual members: reading things into it that were not there.

-Deny ever having made the prediction.

-Deny the certainty of the prediction.

-Accept resposibility. Admit to have been foolish and mend your ways.

I have seen it all except the last one. Sad really.

Changing Truth........

i was at the book study last night and the elder conducting was talking about the old assemblies, like 1935, when rutherford exhorted everyone with an earthly hope to stand up, and half the crowd stood up, then rutherford said "behold the great crowd" or something to that effect, which was a departure to previous doctrine of one distinct class of salvation inheritors.

to which the elder conducting commented "we see here how jehovah has been progressively revealing his truth to the faithful and discreet slave class all through the ages"...he then said "we'll just have to see what changing truth is revealed at our next assembly...i'm sure we are all looking forward to these new truths".

are'nt we all on this forum looking forward to these 3 days of spirtual nourishment?

What's more annoying - political or religious 'debate'?

from what i have noticed, is that both subjects, may well start out as logical debate but soon logic goes out the window and the 'debate' evolves into full blown argument.

i realise they are both serious subjects, but really, some people need to lighten up a little with their outlook on life.

do you know that feeling when you think you know someone, and then it turns out you really don't?

and you can't really be pissed at that person, cuz its just your weird view of them has been proven to be incorrect.

and they really don't understand why all of a sudden you are not so kind and nice to them anymore, cuz they haven't done anything different, it's just that you see them in a different light now, and can't really be nice and kind anymore.. do you know that feeling?.
