I think it is one of the biggest fallacies that the TMS makes people excellent public speakers, some of the very worst public speakers I have ever heard in my life were men with decades of service of it,unless you have a real talent for it ,I found that my latter years as a Dub I'd feign all sorts of excuses to get out of giving talks I found the prospect boring and dull, and a vast percentage of Dubs are petrified of getting on the stage, looking back I knew many die hard ones that refused point blank to join the TMS.

Was the TM School really any good ?
by Phizzy inmany of us were members of the theocratic ministry school for many years.
some say it helped them with public speaking, and maybe it did for some.. but, when you look back at the quality of student it turned out, was it really any good ?.
most elders are crap public speakers, most r&f bros are crap at reading aloud, most jw's are crap at selling their religion at the door, most jw's have scant real knowledge of the bible.. there are reasons for this, quite often the tms overeer hasn't a clue how to teach a person to progress.

Former COs that Become Inactive
by Bob_NC insome long years ago a circuit overseer told me that the area he was from had several former cos that had "left the road" as they call it and were just sitting on their laurels.
he said that they don't pioneer and some were irregular publishers.

wonder whatever happened to Peter Barnes? is he still alive, when I was a kid I remember a CO by the name of Dennis Ashby who was a very good friend of my father he served as a CO in the late 60's early 70's he later came off as he started a family or adpopted a boy, he served in a local congregation as an elder up until the late 80's and he came to our cong as a visiting speaker and gave the infamous "Terry Waite" talk in which he urged us to pray for the CoE envoy Terry Waite who was kidnapped in Lebonan, there was such an uproar about this comment that he was immidiatly banned form ever visting our cong agian, but the rumour mil was that he had faded and become inactive.

My chat with 2 Dubs yesterday about UN membership
by jookbeard ini live close to a resonanbly busy street, 20 odd shops banks, a train station,a couple of cafes and coffee shops etc and usually see dubs doing street work close to the station and i'm now on nodding terms with an elder who is out most days of the week and have got close to recognizing most of the hard core of about a dozen of them , i was walking out of the cafe yesterday to be greeted by a couple of newbies i'd never seen before , a scruffy short dumpy man and a fairly well presented middle aged lady, i'll try and abridge the conversation as best as i can, we must have chatted for about 15 minutes and it was all in a good mannered style;.
me " have you sold many of those this morning ?".
jw guy " oh no we dont sell them we give them away for free" (like i didn't know that).

saw brother Scruffy from a distance a couple of weeks back, an even better chat was conducted last week entering Victoria main line railway station where the usual metal stand had been placed into position and I was able to start the UN conversation all over agian with a young sister, I certainly hit her with both barrels, as per usual clueless about the UN membership, as I walked away i turned around and she walked towards the brother looking after the metal stand , she seemed to be wiping her brow and looked kind of relieved!

When You Prayed...
by LoisLane looking for Superman inat night did you kneel by your bed, sit on the edge of your bed or pray while in bed?.

I was never a great prayer , I probably prayed in silence many years after leaving the WTS, during my years as a JW , prayers at meetings/family FS etc were purposely kept as scripted and cliche ridden as possible. I've not prayed to anyone whoever the hell may be out there for many years.

'We are all scallywags, but God loves us anyway' - My story
by Laika inperhaps the most profound moment of my life occurred when i was sat in a car with my dad.
we were travelling home and having a very jw conversation on the paradise, at least, it was until my dad slipped in one of those rare moments of honesty in the watchtower world:.
that moment really hit me hard.

Would it be too cruel to..............
by Amelia Ashton inyesterday i had a real blast from my past turn up un-announced on my doorstep.
she bumped into my daughter (who has rejected me) in sainsbury's, took her to lunch and got my address from her.
she claims she has been searching for me ever since she discovered i was back in the uk.. she is a disfellowshipped sister who was described by one of our elders as a wagon.

Genuine repentance - if you can fake that you'll avoid getting disfellowshipped
by slimboyfat into paraphrase a well known saying.
is it true, in a judicial committee, if you can fake repentance, then they are likely to let you off being disfellowshipped, almost regardless of the "severity" of the sin involved?
can former elders and perhaps victims of the process shed light on the matter?

definitely happened to me, the original 5 had me condemned in little over an afternoon of the first hearing for apostasy and seemed pretty damn pleased with themselves as well, I was very close to accepting their crappy decision and walking away but we had some complicated family business at the time and my DF'ing would have made life very difficult, the chairman on the original committee who was a family friend and decent man followed me to the car park and urged me to appeal, so I did, the following Saturday I blatantly lied about that I had quit reading any more apostate material and was truly sorry if I had stumbled anyone during this time ( all the while I was subscribing to Free Minds/Comments from the Friends had iSofCF in my car and was updating my apostate mate of the full proceedings) it can be done.
