  Christmas visit from the elders

  yes the elders made another stop to continue to try to get me back to the meetings.

  my main argument with them has been the incorrect dates.

  607, 1914. they said i need to stop focusing on dates.

  During the discussion they were trying to dig into the reasons for me leaving. It couldn't possibly be the teachings! They asked, "Is it a girl? Is it drugs? Is it alcohol?" No on all three, except the third. In that case however, Jehovah's Witnesses have driven me to alcohol. They also used the opportunity to bash on Christmas. Another fun discussion with these "shepherds".

  I had a similar experience with a trainee CO. He came by with the regular CO to "help" me with my "doubts" and instead tried to grill me about what sort of secret sin I was trying to conceal/justify by pretending I had doubts about Jehovah's organization. He just couldn't comprehend the idea that someone might have ACTUAL DOUBTS about the organization.

  He probably had his own secret sin which he was trying to conceal, and couldn't imagine that someone else wouldn't be the same.

  Nostradamus prediction of 2012 and the timing of the society leaving New York City

  i have been doing research on nostradamus prediction and some of his predictions talks about 2012 and planet x and possible flooding of new york city and ect.. which goes along with rev about the water turning bitter, and great famine because of the polar shifts.

  does anyone know anything about this and the possible connection as is why they might be selling their real estate and trying to leave new york city?

  any thoughts ... feel free to venture off topic..or outside the box..

  Research...

  i'm looking for someone to help with some research.

  i need to find out about the culture and beliefs of jw's.

  it must be from a genuine jw, not hear say from someone who 'knows' about the faith or has previously been a jw, i need to hear the view as a positive.. if anyone can help i'd be grateful if you could get in touch.

  JW's traditions are to avoid all traditions.

  This morning I dropped off a JW friend's first-grader at school ... on the way there she was in tears because she doesn't like everyone asking her why she can't celebrate Christmas and really wants to build a gingerbread man with her classmates.

  We've all suffered at the hands of this cruel cult, so this is nothing extraordinary, but that struck me as just really sad.

  I remember being dragged out on a thursday night in a snowstorm and literally almost dying, only to finally get to the KH and wait and wait and wait for someone else to show up, only they never did because meeting was cancelled and no one bothered to call us.

  i see people saying this online.

  my parents made us tell people tha we got gifts throughout the year and that we probably got more presents than kids get on birthdays and christmas.

  however, it was a complete lie.

  That's what they told us to say at the meetings so of course I did. Total lie. It was really frustrating being told year after year at the meeting and at home that I have this steady influx of totally awesome presents rolling in all year long and it just didn't happen. After we got snared I honestly don't remember ever getting a present until I graduated from high school, and then it was so unremarkable I don't remember what it was. I wouldn't have even had a graduation party except someone at the hall heard there wasn't one planned and threw one for me This is a horrible thing to say, but it's how I really feel. My mom is extremely, shall we say "frugal" and I honestly feel that part of why she stuck with being a JW so long is because it was a reason not to buy anything for us. It's kind of too late now, but after getting out of it she got better about that. I try to be generous when I can because I know first hand how bad that sucks.

  Until now I always thought that this was far more isolated and I was a special case, but it seems pretty standard. Giving presents to your children is a natural display of affection, which is common to all people and is even specifically mentioned in the bible. What an absolutely EVIL cult to be able to suppress that natural instinct in so many people.

  When I was, I think, seven, my mom had some kind of screwed up dream about the end of the world and then the next day the witnesses knocked on the door, which she took as some kind of sign. Suddenly, mom, myself, and my four year old sister were all witnesses, hallelujah! Dad wouldn't have anything to do with them, he was the smart one.

  Seven isn't very old, but I was an extremely bright kid and could have probably reasoned my way out of it. I do remember asking the elder at one of my mom's studies some uncomfortable questions which he never really answered to my satisfaction, but up until then we were a very unsocial family. We never really had any extended family or friends over, and the witnesses were something new and different, new friends, new social structure, new things to do. Yeah, my young life was so boring that going to the meetings was actually exciting. Hey, there was no internet back then

  So by the time I was old enough to make my own choices I was so far in that it was my whole life, which I know you guys know all about. When you're that far in it's like part of you can know that it's not right, but the rest of you just continues to accept it because it's all you've ever had, and you even defend if against yourself. I still remember when I finally accepted that it was all a lie. Of all things it was the United Nations scandal that did it for me. I'm glad I finally got free of them and I'm never going back.

  Got "THE letter" ....how to proceed?

  my husband and i faded/mysteriously disappeared from meetings over a year ago.

  we've had a few visits from elders (where we said very little but thanked them for their time), the last one being when we had some nice jack o lanterns sitting on our porch.

  on saturday, we got letters cordially inviting us to our beheading, i mean, our judicial committee meeting.

  If you're really out then don't play their games. Look at it this way. If you quit your job and went on with your life, and then months/years later you got a letter from your old employer summoning you to the office because they don't like something you're doing now, how would you react? Probably, you'd just have a good laugh at their expense, and rightly so, because that's ridiculous.

  Having JW contacts you want to maintain makes it a little stickier, but if you show up for this thing you let the elders know in no uncertain terms that you still jump when they say frog. I think by letting them know they still have power over your life it will just make it that much worse for you. Personally, no contacts are worth that to me, and nothing short of a kidnapping would get me back inside a KH. I think sending a letter is just poking the hornet's nest too. Actually, ignoring them for forever sounds like the perfect solution to this.

  ok so this is my second winter out of the crazy religion.. where i live we can get really bad winters and this seems to be another bad year.

  we just had a record november for snow fall.

  we live in the city and the city snow plowing is not the best to say the least.

  The Holiday Thread

  [i'm sure this thread comes up several times a year by us noobs but it's new for me.

  btw, i'm not advocating or opposing the celebration of holidays, just giving a perspective we've taken recently.].

  okay, so before we got df'd a few weeks back, we weren't sure if we were going to start celebrating holidays... for a few reasons:.

  I had my last real Christmas and other holidays when I was I think seven. I've never really had any friends or extended family, so even when we had a real Christmas when I was little that just consisted of decorating the house, and having a nice dinner with my mom and dad. And of course presents. Even if I had never been a JW I probably wouldn't put up any decorations now because I'd be the only one to see them, and I don't like doing, ya know, things. I'd rather just not bother. I eat dinner with my mom and dad all the time anyway, so that's no big deal either. Seriously, it's nothing for us to get together and have a turkey just whenever we feel like it. We had one last week in fact. Also we live very simple lives and we've all already got everything we want. My dad was never in. I've been out for several years and my mom is pretty out now too, so for a couple years now we've been having just a little thing. Presents are usually just something very simple that we can actually use. Last year I got my mom a new turkey roaster, because she needed one. She got me new car mats. And that's fine. I kind of wish I had the traditions and memories and stuff that other families have, but it just doesn't mean anything to me. If I did any more it would be phony. On the other hand it's less stressful like this. If I ever got married maybe it would mean more to me because it would mean something to her, and we'd have our own traditions and stuff, but right now "Christmas spirit" just isn't something I have any of. Yet another thing the fine folks in NY took from me, I guess.
