  Help!

  those of you who have helped family and friends out of the org, what line of reasoning worked well for you?

  what scriptures did you use?.

  any help you can give, i would appreciate.. "plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

  I don't understand why, but this has helped me get 3 kids back out of the organization (after dragging them in from birth)

  I would say things like...I just read <pick one, Rutherford's,russell's>book, and it was very interesting. I just read the Society's Proclaimer's of God's Kingdom book, page number or chapter whatever. I just read <watchtower/awake/issue whatever. Don't tell them what it says in advance if you can help it.

  What I've been saying to Witnesses i meet, "My heart goes out to Jehovah's Witnesses, this is a difficult time for them. Seven failed prophecies, child molestations, etc etc. God bless you in this difficult time." or something to that effect. it tends to open the floodgates!

  If you give them permission to be a Witness, they can't wait sometimes to get out. Maybe some other posters on this board can give insight into this.

  Memorial Attendance Figures 2001

  at the dc this weekend, they released memorial attendance figures for the us.

  funny thing.

  2001 2, 163, 602 (announced at dc, if i wrote tham down correctly).

  2000 2, 153, 268 (2001 yearbook of JW's)

  but in 2000 US baptisms were 30,290.

  Does anyone see a problem with these figures except me.

  I wanted to leave early also.

  The speakers went on and on about 'based on God's word the bible'. They specifically mentioned: the trinity, the name jehovah, the soul, meeting/assembly, baptism, holidays, donations. Scriptures were used to back these up to the extent JW's ever do.

  My question, is: no mention of alternative service, the blood issue, the shunning issue, and the treatment of women and children. Is that because there are no scriptures to back these WT doctines up?

  A good point for JW wannabes. Catch 'em early.

  I noticed, too only one slight mention in passing of the 'organization'. That is true of the August study articles as well. It appears they might be toning down the 'mother organization' line, at least for public consumption.

  Question about this year's DCs

  My DC 7/13 had brother Ted Jawrasc (sp)as concluding speaker and concluding prayer, Long Beach CA. only went sunday pm, don't know about the other days.

  was it before you left or after you left and what promtped your investigation?.

  for me it happened a few days before christmas of last yr. it was right after my roommate purchased his computer.

  i looked up jehovah on ms encarta, clicked on a link and as they say the rest is history.. i had just lost my job so i was able to spend a lot of time researching and looking into all kinds of shit.

  I'd been df'd for years, but still 'loyal' <gag> thought it was all my fault. Then I got my first computer, looked up Jehovah's Witnesses, and got Freeminds.

  Actually I've been in the process of creating a WORD file of all the info on the cd-rom. It's a slow process, but I'm a fourth thru now. Then we can do REAL searches. Right now type in 1975 and quess what doesn't come up>>>

  New Book, a Powerhouse

  i've received numerous questions asking for documentation of issues raised on this board.

  some threads have gems that get developed, then buried, and someone raises the same question.

  cd roms whirr.. for some ray franz is more than sufficient, others also enjoy the perspective of "apocalypse delayed" by trained historian james penton, which was vital to me personally.

  Of course we want a book like this, need you ask? And I can guarantee you that for those of us ex-jw's whose Watchtower library is 3-10 times larger than it EVER was when we were JW's this book is as good as sold.

  christians want that everything must be wholesome and up building.

  of course nothing could be considered more so than the bible, the word of god.

  in our society we are very concerned with human rights and in particular the rights of women and children.

  Something I've always wondered about...God kept remarking on and responding to the 'hardheartedness' of the Israelites, but what can you expect when you order adults to kill children, babies even. And they do this repeatedly, hardheartedness can be expected.

  On the practical side tho, if the Israelites killed all the adults, and preserved all the children alive, who would care for and support these children, provide them the neccessities of life, and training? This was a nomadic desert people. One cannot serve a child gold or silver for breakfast. I don't see how the Israelites could have supported perhaps tens of thousands of baby boys and girls.

  Killing all women who had evidence of sexual intercourse with a man (as opposed to lesbians???) could be predicated on the existance of rampant venereal disease among cultures with the kind of sexual practices we've been told they had. The Israelites had no cure for these diseases, they could only watch these women and their affected children die slowly and painfully from these diseases while at the same time having to share their resources with them. Impractical at least and at most economically unfeasible.

  Why kill the baby boys and not baby girls? Girls are smaller and won't eat as much? My son has trouble understanding that as well. I can only guess that the Israelites could not do it, so God let them off the hook by saying they could preserve alive the baby girls.

  And I agree with other posters, if an Israelite man could hand over his own daughter and say 'here do with her as you wish' one could only consider with near horror how these foreign females fared in daily Jewish life.
