I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I can relate as I was at least invited to my brother's wedding but as a guest. I was not involved with the wedding party at all. Funny story: my brother tells me that there is going to be an open bar at the reception. I thought that was strange because of the possibility of people getting drunk. He told me that the bar would be "monitored". Well, I proved him wrong on that because I got drunk off my arse that night. Which I found to be the only way to enjoy a JW wedding.

I have mentioned this in a few other posts of late but I guess it bears repeating. I mentioned the Awake article to my parents, who were at a loss for words afterwards. Anyway, a few days later my dad mentions he spoke to an elder about it and their conclusion is that the quote referred to in that article was slipped in by an apostate.
This seems to be their logic for anything they cant explain as of late

Hey Dona,
Welcome to the board! First, let me say you are not alone in this as we all have been through the process. I was DA'd by my family because I didn't accept their teachings. You will find alot of support on this board. My prayers are with you.

Hey,
I just want to thank everyone for your kudos. I can't express in words how much having access to a forum like this means to me. I am still amazed when I read these posts and see other people that have or are going through the same crap I went through. The education issue is huge for me because I went through the '75 debacle being told everyday that the world was going to end before I finished school, moreover, sucking out of me(and many others) any ambition and drive. For the first time in my life, I am enjoying being normal and I am proud of my accomplishments.
While on the education issue...I recently showed my parents the article from the '69 Awake, which states verbatim that the world would end before children in school would finish....I almost fell over when I got their response which was that an apostate snuck that line into the article...you cant make that stuff up folks!!! So, the newest JW answer for covering their butts is that an apostate is responsible for it. I felt like I was talking to the guy in the subway station who wears the tinfoil on his head and spouts off about conspiracy theories

No school for you: confirmation of CO outline on education
by raindog ini just spoke with my dad after he returned from an elders meeting.
the co did say that elders would have to step down from their positions if they supported their child getting an education.
the reasoning behind this is that an elder is encouraging their children to attend college, they would not be able to counsel the rank and file on the issue.

The reasoning behind this is that an elder is encouraging their children to attend college, they would not be able to counsel the rank and file on the issue. Now, there seems to be some debate about what qualifies as an education. If a dub is going to a trade school to be a nurse, welder, etc, that is allowed. However, going to college for four years to get a good paying job is not allowed. There you have it, an elder cannot support his children getting an education.
My dad's opinion is that there are plenty of "manual labor" jobs available, and that people just don't want to work. I reminded him of the state of the economy, in which he replied that "Jehovah will provide". Same old party line...sigh.
What is sad about the whole thing is that I had just got done telling him that I made deans list again and that I had been asked to join the honor society. And he completely blew me off and in fact, changed the subject to vaccum cleaners!!! WTF!!!

Did you help clean the Kingdom Hall, yard work, maintenance?
by Thechickennest inat one hall i attended for serveral years had a lawn covering large man-made burms with trees and bushes.
it was a difficult yard to mow and maintain.
i have often wondered why we all pitched in and worked so hard for nothing.

My parents never participated in the behind the scenes stuff such as cleaning the hall during the week or after meetings. however, once a year, our hall would have a big event they called a "clean-in", where everyone would show up and do work around the hall, usually right before a C.O visit. You would have thought they were getting ready for the pope to visit. My parents would bring in a ton of food and work from morning till dark to prove what loyal dubs they were. I can't understand to this day why I looked forward to pulling weeds all day. Could my life have been so void of excitement and socialization that I really enjoyed doing that? wow, I shudder when I think of it now

Hello everyone! New here. Born into it....ugh.
by Lady Zombie inwhere to start?.
i thought about typing out a nutshelled life history but changed my mind.
suffice it to say, i was born into "the truth," attempted suicide at 14, "lost my faith" at this time, beat into submission into carrying on as usual, endured a horrible marriage and equally horrible divorce, and am more or less still in it (appearances only!

Are You a Closet Apostate Weenie?
by Farkel inyou count 10 hours per month but havn't even mentioned your beliefs to a non-dub in years.. you underline your study articles at random and write fake notes in the margins.. you smoke joints to get through meetings, field service and assemblies.. you're secretly banging an elder's wife.. you stuff monopoly money in the contribution box.. you keep your eyes open during prayer and giggle.. when everyone else says "amen" at the end of a prayer, you whisper "what bullshit.".
you have a copy of crisis of conscience in a box buried in your back yard.. you play with an ouija board and watch smurf cartoons when no one is around.. you think "thriller" was the great music video ever made.. you read comic books in the kingdom hall bathroom during meetings.
when questioned about your long time spent in the bathroom, you whisper "i'm constipated.
