I rate Bible "chronologists" right up there with numeralogists. If you work the numbers long enough you can eventually get them to agree with whatever you want. Of course as a Bible chronologist you're forced to work with the inconsistencies of the book itself so if you can make sense of an imperfect manmade piece of propoganda then more power to ya.

Sign of the Last Days THEN!
by JanH inthe last days in the 14th century
all through recorded history there have been people who have pointed to the calamities, horrors and disasters in the world, and preached that this signified an imminent end of the world.
this isnt even unique to christianity, which started off with strong millennial expectations in the 1st century, and for the most part retains the same expectations almost 2000 years later.

New Bible!
by Jesus Christ inthis is a quick note to say that dad and i are working on a new version of the bible.
don't worry about the stuff that doesn't make sense in the old one, we wrote that while consuming the biggest bottle of vodka you could imagine.
quite frankly, by the time we got to revelation we were smashed and don't even remember writing most of it.

Well Jesus, I'm a Pagan so will you be writing a book about your mom. I notice there is God, his son, but no Goddess. Was this an oversight in your drunken stupor the first time around or did you two get into a fight? I do hope that this new Bible is at least consistent, perhaps you should hire a really good editor that way moronic interpretation can be avoided. I know I say "hi" to your mom 8 times a year but could drop her a hello for me anyway? I've been slacking on my praying to her and her midsummer has been over for a couple of weeks now.

Hardline on disfellowshipped ones
by eyeslice inonce again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.
perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.
the text below is from the august km insert and the meeting part is to be handled by a "well qualified" elder with the paragraphs being read by a "capable reader".

I wonder how my mother will react to this. She shunned me for almost 3 years but slowly changed and now that I have a daughter she really wants to be around. If she chooses to shun me again she's cut off. I don't put up with JW crap. It amazes me that they expect you to change your convictions to conform with their beliefs (sorry, just venting).

I had always thought that those who wanted to believe in Armageddon had to apply it to their life otherwise there was no reason to worry about it. I can't remember where I read it but earthquakes have been on the decline over the 20 century contrary to what the WTS would have you believe. Without an iminent sense of the "end" some of these religions have nothing else to stand on.

I'm a pretty rational guy but I did have some weird stuff happen when I was a witness. Now I believe it was a type of behavioral reinforcement. I do find it funny that since I've left the JW I have yet to experience anything that would consider "evil". The power of suggestion is allot more powerful than most people think. Why else would you have people call their beliefs "the truth". After a few years of that you truly believe it.

Any martial artists?
by gsx1138 inmartial arts is the one thing the elders and i verbally sparred over for about 5 years.
it wasn't until i got df'd that i was able to attend an "official" class.
i had trained vicariously for about 4 years with a friend of mine who was a student of isshinryu karate.

Well after I was DF'd I theorized that the reason they don't want you to take martial arts is because it strengthens your body and mind. The last thing the WTS wants is someone with a strong mind. My only crowning achievement in Tae Kwon Do was winning a first place spot in the U.S. Tae Kwon Do tournament. Of course that was years ago and I couldn't fight for air now.

Being an old fat bastard now at 33 I've been trying Tai Chi now mixed with some Yoga. I'm just wondering if anyone else tried martial arts after they left the WTS?

The gsx1138 thinks you're a moron. The gsx1138 thinks the only reason you've not posted a rebuttal to two of the posters who have obviously exposed your petty little religion is because you have nothing to rebut with except pre-programmed tripe. The gsx1138 thinks you're using large font to make up for some other shortcomings and I'm not talking about your intelligence. The gsx1138 hates it when people like to talk in the third person.
The gsx1138 believes that the "truth" is not setting Quantum free but driving him crazy.

Homo-Erectus to Homo Sapiens Brain size
by truthseeker1 inok, well i've been outa school but i've done a little math problem here to see the human brain grew from homo-erectus to homo-sapien.
"it has been said" that there is a 2 million span between erectus and sapien, and it has been guessed that a new generation would be produced every 10 years.
that leaves you with 200,000 generations.

Considering all the stupid people I see on the freeway everyday I'd say your math is off. There is no way some people have evolved that far from homo-erectus.
