This is subject matter that is very depressing. My hope is that anyone suffering with thoughts of ending their life would take pause and reconsider. This too shall pass. A doctor once told me that the message I send to my loved one (my only child) after attempting to take my own life, was that this is the only solution to life's problems. Not the example I wanted to give. To those of you who may think your life has no value, I ask you to please talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone else you love, who was in that state of mind. Allow yourself the same kindness you wouldn't hesitate to extend to someone else. I know it's not always the easy thing to do, but it is always the RIGHT thing to do. Give tomorrow a chance.

Something significant changed in the WTS in 1984... but what was it???
by Elsewhere inlooking at this chart i can't help but notice that pre-1984 the growth statistics were extremely erratic.
then, all of the sudden in 1984 the growth statistics calmed down and have ever since fallowed a much more stable trend.
it's almost a straight line after 1984.. so what happened?

Interesting thoughts here. Reminded me about the numbers on this link: http://gatheringofisreal.com/gospelclock/gospelclock2002.html
The JW numbers used to move pretty rapidly. Not so much now!!!

Is there a slowdown in congregation get togethers?
by truthseeker ini was just reading thelisteners post from an earlier thread, and it got me thinking just how little time dubs have to associate togther.. it seems to be more and more the fact, that the only time dubs see each other to "associate" - if you can even call it that - is at meetings and conventions.. even at conventions though, the dubs are told not to go outside for lunch, regardless of whether it is a nice day of not.
(note, this may not be true at all conventions).
where is a jehovah's witness supposed to get this period of refreshment so he can do more?

I had to chuckle as these posts reminded me of one of the last "get togethers" I'm glad I missed. Seems Brother MoreRightousThanYou, suggested the group, gathered in the rec room of a trailer complex, throw a stack of WatchTowers into the center of the room, and each one of the "friends" would pick a magazine from the pile, and discuss their favorite article from the randomly selected rag. Like I said, glad I missed that one!

Remember, this article was written shortly after the meltdown in Brooklyn in the late 70's. Ray Franz had his book published, and the society was frantic about damage control. They were kicking people out of the organization left and right. Fear was, and still is the best way to control the millions who make this organization $millions$ Very sad, but true. It's funny, but I remember being encouraged 40 years ago to ask anyone at their door, who believed in "Hellfire" to reason why their particular religion would use fear of hell fire to warn them against reading our literature. Was'nt it because we had the "TRUTH"? Loved the quote seattleniceguy pointed out. It speaks volumns about this organization.

Holly, If Jehovah's Witnesses are the only true religion fulfilling the message about preaching mentioned in Matt 24:14, then the end is still a long way off! Consider this: Jehovah's Witnesses number in total around 6,000,000 people. There are well over 6 Billion people on earth. That means JW's represent less than one tenth of one percent of the worlds population. Even if every one of the current 6 million people claiming to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses were preaching 10 hours a month, every month, they have not even made a small dent in effectively preaching this gospel "for a witness to all the nations" in a way that would justify the horrible death they predict will befall all who do not heed their message. ( 99.9% of the world) and yet they continue to say the end is "just around the corner"

Let's see...where do I begin? After accepting a last minute assignment (that morning) to give a talk at a neighboring KH, I was counseled from the platform after the talk, by the PO about putting more time into preparing my talks. This wasn't the Ministry School, this was a Sunday talk. I was very embarrassed until the same PO started to conduct the WT study for that week, with a watchtower that was a year old!
Then there was the time a brother was supposed to say "we will have 15 minutes for intermission" and instead said "we will have 15 minutes for intercourse"
When the elders decided to give me the MS #5 talk on masturbation, because I was the "mature one" amoung my age group, and I practically fell off my chair laughing after the school servant gave me good marks for a talk on a "touchy subject"
Last was a brother who I couldn't help but laugh at everything he did. Once when I was to introduce the service meeting, during the song, I looked out into the audience only to see him picking his nose, and pretending to eat it! I busted up laughing just as the song ended, and I was trying to introduce the first speaker. The elders called me into the back room after that meeting, and it was a long time before I was given any parts on the service meeting again.
I've enjoyed everyones posts. This was great.

Hi Six
I've suggested lying in past posts on the basis that it's already been deemed acceptable by the society, when used as strategic spiritual warfare. (of course that only applies when it benefits the organization) but hey...who's counting? Another option might be to call Brooklyn and talk to whoever answers and tell them you are being treated by a doctor for depression, and these elders are out to get you and your heart is racing, and you don't know if you can even survive this meeting because they haven't been very kind to you and, here are their names, and............
You get the picture?
Then after the wedding tell them to kiss your crazy ass! :)
BTW loved DocBob's letter. It's beautiful.

Some very interesting post' here, although I'm inclined to agree with JT and Gumby. There are too many "real" issues with this organization we all see very clearly. In my opinion, while some may find subliminal suggestions in pictures and drawings as significant of deeper darker things, I see it as a distraction from what needs continually to be focused on. The Watchtower organization has feet of clay that will eventually crumble if our desires to have them fully exposed remain objective and reasonable.
