Lets continue the point... communism tried to erradicate religion, it failed because forcing a human to do something many times results in quite the opposite... religion is doomed because the newer generation dont take any crap for granted as most religious people of other generations do... the generations rising today question everything and faith is a totally alien concept to them... Show them the facts and they will believe, but they wont believe what cant be tested...
I understand from other of your rightings that you are a deeply religious person.. and good for you... but the boggyman is not communism... that is over and done with... the real boggymen are those who without and actual facts and using redundant references (like saying the bible is the word of god) try to perpetuate beliefs that have brought more grief than good to human kind...

I think this whole 'anti-theist' as you call it has been in the making for many many years... in the making by organized religions themselves...
If one were to use a biblical phrase 'by their fruits you shall know them..' there it is... all the arguments presented by the soviet example you present are based on facts... undeniable historical facts...
The darkest chapters of modern human history are written by organized religions... that put their faith upon translation and interpretation of very old books of whom no one has the originals. (not only christians but other religions also)
I always rememeber an example of a trial the Inquisition would bring upon a so called 'witch'...they would tie her up and put her into a sack which was also tied around and then thrown into a river... if se drowned, she was innocent and went straight to heaven... on the other hand, if by any luck she survived, she would be burned at the stake 'cause only a witch could escape the sack and ties using satan's power...
I, for one, am in favor of this so called anti-theist ( or anti - theos ) line of thinking... cause the opposite form of thinking and actually believing these nefarious acts are and were condonned by the so called god, give me the creeps!

If you are a serious student of human history, it is a fact that civilization has collapsed a number of times over the years... being civilization 'the state of being' of any given time... Civilization as the babylon people knew it collapsed... the greeks.. the romans.. etc etc... Civilization applies to all aspects and if history is right, needs to collapse in order to change and provide some type of growth...
If you look at the root of the most significant issues or problems civilization has today, you can identify three major sources: Religion, Politics & Racism... these three issues are responsible for most of the big problems and conflicts that affect civilization.
These sources are so deeply embedded into our civilization that the only way to erradicate them would be for civilization to collapse..probably including the erradication of 80-90% of humanity... leaving the rest to either unite or face extinction...
It is not a matter of "If civilization collapses..." it is a matter of 'When civilization collapses...' which in lieu of what I have expressed is not such a bad thing... it is part of the natural order...

Actually I concur with jstalin... I saw a video about 14, 15 years ago of how they trained baby elephants to stand on balls etc etc... they used 6 inch spikes to induce the correct behavior.. the baby elephant would scream every time...actually sounded like a human baby... since then I have never ever been back to a circus that has any type of wild animal.. I can tolerate seeing dogs doing tricks.. maybe even horses (although they also get mistreated) but no other ...not bears not wild cats not elephants etc etc. An elephant is an extremely inteligent and spirited creature... to see them submitted to this torture just for our enjoyment should make all of us 'animal lover' look at our choices... I changed and do not support any of this, including Sea World and the rest of the so called 'animal lovers place"... I even quit going to the zoo unless it is something very much like their natural habitat (Busch Gardens type and conservation places) ..
We are not the rulers of the world.. we coexist with these woderful creatures... so if you are a true animal lover, think this over and see to what conclusion you arrive from the heart

To me it depends on what exactly are you getting 'saved' from... I see the comments of many people here... people to whom my heart goes out because I understand perfectly their pain, shortcomings, lost of self esteem and the constant 'doubt oriented' thought process that is common to all who have fled a mind controlling soul destroying sect like the Jws...
And some still struggle with the beliefs ingrained into their neurons... "Salvation" and whatnot regarding religion... but you can perceive the chains that still ensare their thought process. One would believe that after leaving the JWs, you would feel SAVED, but we still need biblical myths and tribal stories to make sense of our own lives If so, no matter how much you pray to whoever you pray, no matter how much you post here trying to get positive reinforcement, you are doomed... doomed to follow stories written by MEN for the domination-control of other men. Jesus was a great teacher, I like him very much... people who call themselves christians I dont like too much, in the name of the teacher the worst attrocities have been committed... Jesus wept and if there is an after life, it is most likely he is still iweeping...
But if you use your freedom to understand that salvation comes from within.. that you do not need the promise of a bribe (heaven or paradise) nor the threat of death or hell, to be a good person and to do good to your neighbor... when you live without hate in your heart... when you follow your heart and concience in harmony to whatever you conceive God to be... you already are saved...
