Nobody is going to invite this KNOWN apostate puppy!!
Known apostates are NOT to even get the once a year visit by the elders that the df'ed non apostates get. Tisk TiskIf I were to ever attend a meeting (and I never will), the memorial is NOT the meeting I would choose as I think it is the most blasphemious meeting they have.

Easter, What Is The Real Truth
by Candle ineaster, what's the real truth: previously, and as found in most encyclopedias, most scholars took the view of "the venerable bede" who in 8th century england speculated that the name easter may have come from the name for the anglo-saxon goddess eastre.
but closer research shows several other possibilities.
one is that the name more likely came from the latin for "white week" that spring week when people wore white to be baptized as christians.

Pagan origins......do origins matter?
I liked the point COC made about how many things we do today that had pagan origins. Calendars, the names of the days of the week, money, wedding customs, etc. all had pagan backrounds.I have often wondered why the society would 'pick and choose' which ones they deemed unfit for christians.
The bible says not to judge a man that holds a day above the rest when it is done to praise him. Easter and christmas both are days in which this is done.
Just because many people celebrate these days and do not honor God on these days....does not make these two days wrong.

Sleepy "With God ,we don't see direct evidence of Gods existance every day
You used a good illustration with the mechanic thing sleepy, and in this scenario I would go with the PROVEN mechanic.
Believers DO see direct evidence with God. We see creation, design, deeper bible study that convinces us it was not written from men's ideas.
This is where faith comes in to believers...not visual PROOF of the person of God.
I do not feel BLIND faith is sound. That is being gullable. It must be based on something that gives you REASON to believe....such as the reasons I just mentioned above.

don't trust other peoples claims that they are chosen by God unless they can show you unrefutable evidence, otherwise you risk being taken for a ride again.
Yes that's right folks! Before you believe anyone...make sure they have a picture of God or a tape recording, or a credable witness to PROVE it!
In other words....don't believe anything without proof. Never mind faith.....proof is what you need.Never fly in a plane unless you actually SEE the pilot! Don't trust some dipsy stewardes that tells you he is in the cockpit.....unless you SEE him. Don't be so gullable!
Also don't go to another country on a trip! It could be a lie and dosen't exist. All of the people who write about these places and those who claim they have seen ...could be liars and trying to dupe you!

Raymond Franz's Betrayal
by IslandWoman inthanks for calling this to my attention.
my reason for not wanting book material to be run on certain web sites is purely because of finding their approach out of harmony with my own principles and standards, so many are engaged in watch tower trashing and extremely negative.
some sites present material that promotes agnosticism and distrust of the scriptures, even atheism (one such site being in scandanavia).

IW.. Quote "Why is he silent"?
Do you how old this man is? He is in his eighties!
How is his health? Do you know?
Have you any ides how much correspondance he reply's to that eats his time.
How rude for you to demand from him more than he has given.
He has told enough! He has exposed the WT for what it is.
What more do you want from him? More guidence.....so people will call us "His Children"!Give the guy a break!

Prisca....excellent post and my feelings also
Francois..Quote "I agree with the idea that if you have an emotional reaction to a word, then it's your problem - not mine"
I find this hard to believe coming from a guy with your brains!
Basically you are saying...I don't CARE if I hurt someone or make them mad.Would you tell your boss.....hey boss..why don't you go f--- off!
Then when he gets mad you say....that's his problem, not mine.
If feel your theory is rude dude...and inconsiderate.Go tell a fat person....hey you fat pig! Then when they get hurt just say...that's your problem , not mine.
Real good advise to all here!

Quote : Now he seems to say that only he can express these thoughts!
He's not saying that. It is the MANNER in which some expose the WT.
He has provided assistance with others who expose them.
All he is saying is he dosen't feel comfortable to have his material in a place that disagrees with what he believes is the proper way to expose. He has a right to feel this way. I'm sure he is way more aware of the tradgedies that have occured to all who have sufferd from this group than most of us have.
He has done too much good for all of us that we should rag on him for a decision he made that he did in good conscience.
He didn't BETRAY anyone!

Childbearing in THIS time of the End
by Thirdson inresponsible childbearing in this time of the end .
i heard the talk that formed the basis of this article in the summer of 1987 while attending with my pregnant wife.
the stress was on not having children and devoting lives to preaching the watchtower's message.

I had two aunts that recently passed away who both died in their 80's childless. Why? Because they were told way back then it would not be wise to have children. The same went for my 92 year old x-circuit O whoalso had no kids for the same reason
I was told I would never have to worry about high school....my daughter was told you will never have to go to school.( she was born in 74)..then as she got older she was happy she wouldn't have to worry about having kids in this old system...She has two now...10 and 7
Think of the heart ache of those who had no children because of this piece of s--- organization, and how many lives they have ruined!

No need to read COC etc to know its bull.
by sleepy indo you need to read coc or look on the interthingynet to know the "truth" is bull?.
i think not, but it will make it easier.. having more facts at your fingertips will help you make up your mind about the society , but really from reading the publictions yourself and looking at the congregations at what goes on should tell you its wrong.. i think theres a problem that a lot of people don't meditate enought and don't give themselves a well rounded knowledge of the world in general.. its understandable given that so much time is taken up with other things, many people are too tired to read alot or think deeply.. yet if you don't you are missing out.. you learn so much by reading rather than whatching tv or playing computer games.. reading a wide variety of books and meditating on things can help exercise you mind , helping it sort dodgy ideas from more sound ones.. i think we should learn from our time as witnesses and try to read more, and meditate on things, become a more rounded person.. it would be a shame if we had to rely soley on other people to mold the way we lead our lives.

I've learned more things from watching informative shows on tv than I have reading books.
I think watching tv makes you braindead thing, is a watchtower thought. Watching crap all day on tv probably is not good, but the same could be said for reading crappy books all day.I take NOTHING away from reading COC! Ask the thousands who have left upon reading this book thought they didn't need it.This was the only book of it's kind to expose the society's inner working structures.
