Would you go back if you thought there were one in a million chances you were wrong?
by Paul Duda inoften i wake up in a cold sweat wondering if i'm wrong.
life is short.
i have only a brief time to make a decision.

I hate hypothetical questions that have no relation to reality. So, there is not a one in a million chance they are right, there are no odds, there is just no chance they are right.
As with Jeremy C above, if I thought they were right, which would be wrong-headed on my part, I would not return for exactly the same reasons as J.C

I am so happy for you Quendi, and what an eye opener it is for us who used to be in the WT, to see real Christian love in action !
Mrs Wobble and I have attended a similar church to the one you describe, maybe not so many gays there, but definately a few, but a wonderful vibrant atmosphere of love and humour, we all had a good laugh a number of times, you don't here that often in a K.H !
May you find happiness and fulfillment, and true friends on your journey, your Church sounds like a great place to start !

The seventy years of exile has been proven to be mis-understood by the WT, we have many threads on this on here, so that part of their "proof" has been blown out of the water.

I can't believe the irony..
by The Quiet One inwatchtower july 15, 2011 study edition page 12 paragraph 7 'following the crowd would not train our perceptive powers; nor, on the other hand, would a host of rigid rules in matters of conscience.
that is why, for example, jehovah's people are not given a list of films, books, and internet sites to avoid...worse, it would deprive us of the vital work of weighing bible principles carefully and prayerfully and then making decisions on the basis of those principles.

I don't think this is ironic, either intentionally or not, I think it is plain LYING.

Do you give to beggars?
by jean-luc picard ini have seldom given money to beggars.
i have often thought that many are people who just do not want to work.
however, i am starting to wonder if i ought to: and how much to give?.

I agree with all Lady Lee says above, but being an old softy, I still give as I always have, from my youth as a JW I have always thought it right to alleviate suffering if it is in the power of your hand to do so, I left it to others to be judgemental against the person, after all, I did not know their whole story, or perhaps none of it.

What is the average cost to build a new Kingdom Hall
by jworld ini was recently told that the average cost to build a new kingdom hall in the united states rural midwest region was $250,000.
i was shocked to say the least.
i remember when my childhood congregation built a new hall in 1989 for $60,000.

In my Congo. we had a guy who was (is) an owner of a construction company. He would always get involved on any Q.B that was happening, even if it was hundreds of miles away, he liked to be the Big Know- Effin- Everything on site.
One time for the benefit of the Congo that was building, he did a proper quotation that would allow his company to make the usual profit, it came out WAY cheaper than involving the RBC and their hangers on, it is another money making scam.
Of course the Elders of the Congo concerned were persuaded that Big J wanted it done through the RBC, so all their pockets got lined again, and the WT got its cut. Corruption and Hypocrisy of a high order.

One scripture that got me thinking on my way to leaving...
by MrFreeze inwhen i was still in, i read a scripture that i think got me started on my route to leaving and not buying into the bs anymore.. for the longest time (ever since i was baptized) i wasn't exactly the beacon of a model brother in what i was really doing.
you could say i was leading a "double life".
my jw persona was holier than thou.

That is the sort of answer I would have liked to have given.

I second the motion Sir !
Leo has a rare talent, being able to cut through a forest of words and produce a neatly trimmed plant that we can all appreciate.
Just one thing Leo could copy from K.A, which I am sure she would do, is provide a good Glossary, those of us not familiar with technical terms or arcane literature appreciate one very much.
Hamster, howse about we give dear Leo a working title ? Something like "Ancient Myths, do you believe them ?" , I am sure you as her agent, can think of a better one !
