i have to say that i have been experiencing a wave of pathetic jws.
they all seem to be hyper defensive, off base, and willing to do and say anything to win.
the ones i run into lately are very wary since i wear my grizzled "commander ryker" beard like a badge of honor.
How true Drew! "JW's can be very scattered and erratic in their dialogue" I have had discussions with two long- time JDubs recently and found it frustrating that they could not use logic,or more often than not would not answer a point at all. It was a bit like playing ping-pong and every time they batted the ball away from the table!
In the end I left both with a different question from the "silver bullett" thread,this was some weeks ago,they still have to get back to me....

i have a question for the ex-jw's on this forum after months of reading the forum..... many say how good it is to be free of the oppressiveness of the jw's that they can now enjoy the freedom to... have sex, celebrate christmas, gamble, embrace politics etc.
there are still biblical scriptures and principles in place that if you still followed the bible would mean you avoid these things and yet these are now embraced as one of the perks of no longer being a jw so in my confusion i ask.... if these are what you want, isn't it more correct to say you no longer follow the bible as apposed to just the jw's?.
I have just seen your latest post, a little bit of WT spin there,just because something has pagan origins it is wrong Biblically???
Surely the issue is worship being offered to a false god,the golden calf,not the origins of a practise or object,as has been pointed out ad nauseam on JWD virtually everything has pagan origins!
So with Christmas one would have to define what is true worship,and then "celebrate" it in away that did not conflict,perhaps giving presents to the poor.?

Your thoughts are a good counter-balance here on JWD. I am at present trying to formulate my beliefs. I still believe in the God of the Bible and want to live by His standards,but so much of what I was taught in my life suffered from Watchtowwer "spin" so that I now have to check everything by reading the Bible as though I have never seen it before,this method tends to throw up more questions than answers.
I think it is so easy once you have left organised religion to become virtually atheist,then Satans words become true,you can decide what is Good and Evil for yourself.
For me ,I hope to continue to strengthen my faith in the true God,and I pray the same for all who wish to serve Him,but those who choose otherwise I wish them happiness and wellbeing and however they choose to live I offer no criticism.

how do you pronounce n.u.c.l.e.a.r.it is not pronounced as if it were spelled n u k u l a r - so why do so many public officials & supposedly learned people say it the wrong way?
i'm talking several presidents (present & past) college educated people, newscasters, etc.
do they not realize how ignorant they sound because the can not pronounce the word correctly??
Here in the U.K the most mis-pronounced word is bRought ,loads of people ,especially in the media,say "bought" ,even the B.B.C !
.It has become so widespread that it regularly appears in print,even in august newspapers like the Guardian.It is frustrating because you have to double check the context to see if the thing spoken of was purchased or simply brung.
How do we determine what is the right way to pronounce a word? I beleive that we should pronounce it in a way that takes into consideration the words etymology,but often we are bullied into using popular pronunciations,hence Americans pronounce most things wrongly !

there are a lot of dumb organization men.
gb losch seems to be the top dog for dumbness.. in the local halls i've seen and heard many dumb elders open their mouths.. one elder had a fondness for bible prophecy and watchtower chronology.
he always speculated on what the "watchtower really means" about a statement in print.
He then claimed he wasn't making the sign of the cross, just checking tie,flies.wallet,watch ?

Some years ago our Congo. had a trip to the British Museum, on hand when we got there were Bros.(some from London Bethel) to act as guides to direct us to all the exhibits that should interest us Dubs. One guide showed me the Sanaiaticus manuscript and said "Do you want to see the Divine name in this? .....there it is..!" and pointed to a part of the page on display then he scuttled off. I thought to myself that dosn't look like the tetragram in Hebrew or Greek. So when I got home I checked up and sure enough the Divine Name does not appear in it! (only as Kyrios, Lord, I believe)
I wonder how many Dubs believed this" guide" ?
By the way he was the same guy who was telling us that the first tranlation into "English" was in the 15th. Centuary as I was standing next to an English vernacular version from 400 or so years earlier!!!!
Why oh Why did I not question at the time how far this use of "blind guides" went in the WTS ?

had a witness relative visit me yesterday and we got into a discussion about noahs flood.
i of course did my best to explain to her how it didn't happen and many of the reasons why.
one reason i gave was the perverbial lack of sufficiant water to cover the earth.
When I was a young Witless (all those years ago!) I raised exactly this point and a bro, said he had read an old book published in the early 1800's which explained that the canopy was like super heated steam and invisible to the naked eye!
I didn't really think about this explanation,but I don't think it is very scientific, I wonder if that book is where the WT got the idea of a canopy from? they don't have many original ideas and love old science if it backs their loony theology.

i've been enjoying questioning long held beliefs lately.
one issue i've been pondering is the life of the unborn.
this has been brought on by a couple of things.. sam harris in end of faith and letter to a christian nation discusses the moral implications of stem cell research and this has been discussed in the media lately too.
I just feel that abortion is wrong in principle,the Bibles view of life is what gives me this gut feeling(pun?) but I don't know of any scripture which would convince someone who does not want to see it the same as me.I would therefore say that in certain cases a loving God would allow abortion,but it does strike me that He views the fertilised egg as a "life", am I wrong?
