Our hall wa shsared by 2 congs and our side was responsible for upkeep of the sound equipment. Our main amplifier broke and we were replacing it one night. Unknown to us a group of elders and the CO came in for a meeting. Instead of coming in to say hello, they made a beeline to the confernce room room to start their meeting. This conference room doubled as a place where parents could take their misbehaving kids.
I was like 19 at the time and pretty rebellous. They wouldn't let me handle the microphone but since no one else knew crap about the sound equipment I was often called in when they had issues. Once we had the system installed we decided to test it out so i popped in my AC/DC Back in Black tape and proceeded to crank it up. So here I am walking up and down the aisles trying to hear for dead zones and one of the elders comes running in all red faced to inform me that a meeting was in progress.
This guy was a pretty cool (young) and at that point I had no idea that the CO was with them, so I was all smiles. About 10 seconds later the CO and other elders came into the room...I then realized the gravity of the situation. My excuse? The kingdom melody tapes did not have enough bass tones to do an effective job of adjusting the sound quality and I knew how this music was suposed to sound (all BS).
I thanked my luck star that I had not grabbed the Highway to Hell tape.....that would have been tough to explain. -

I just checked the "keep Yourselves in Gods Love" which was the release from the DC and the shunning rules only seem to apply to ones that are DA'ed or DF'ed. However, the language in some places is just a hair away from saying shun faders.
The whole thing is sickening there is a section that talks about a court case where the WTS shunning was upheld as freedom of religion....basically telling dubs "See shunning is OK....the courts say so".
In summary:
A family unit it split down the middle into "Family Members" and "Close Relatives"....shun close relatives but not family members.
IMO these two terms are vague and were chosen so that maximum shunning would take place. For exampe at what point does a DF'ed Son become a close relative living outside the family? There will be some that say once you move out you are now a close relative others not. Its just a big ball of BS!!!!

Study Edition Strangeness
by jaydoe1 inheard some interesting comments about the study edition wondering if this is a trend developing.
a friends mother wanted to get a spare copy of the "kool aid" edition to share with her (faded) son in hopes he might attend.
the elder she asked declined stating that the brothers were being very stingy with them.

The elder she asked declined stating that the brothers were being very stingy with them. This part is sketchy it was suggested that the son would need to register with the local hall by providing personal information to his local elders in order to get a copy.
Is this a local thing? Anyone else seem similar things? -

I remember a young guy in our hall got DF'ed for screwing around with a prostitute. Our hall had the "local needs" part THAT NIGHT talking about worldly influences blah blah blah...bad thought lead to hooking up with prostitutes etc (prostitutes were mentioned numerous times in this part). While this is going on the DF'ed guy is sitting in the back row by himself....I cant imagine what was going thru his head.
At the final prayer the PO got up on stage and basically admitted to the cong that the local needs parts are "sometimes related to disciplinary actions"
...."But that was NOT the case with tonights special needs talk". The people in the know (non-elders) were all like did brother PO just get up on stage and lie?

I am a software engineer. I write code that runs on servers using MS operating systems. About a year ago I decided to make the switch and have never looked back. The only windoze computer I own is sitting in the basement missing hard drives which I ripped out and put in my power mac.
I run parallels so I have access to Windows development tools etc. After a year of doing this, I have to say the best way to run windows is as a virtual machine on a mac. You install XP or 2003 server or heck even linux with a complete set of programs etc. Then you make a backup of it (a 30GB file in my case). Any time windows gets messed up for whatever reason you copy anything you need to a safe place, delete the virtual machine file and get a fresh copy and your up and running again in 10 minutes.
My circle of friends (friends of friends etc) have bought at least 20 apple computers in the last 6 months and every one is now a raving apple fan boy.
Yes apple stuff costs more, but 1) it just works, and 2) when you sell it it holds a lot more of its value (check ebay).
good luck
