Congratulations Stacy, & best wishes!
As I recall, you did not ASK for unsolicited advice, you made a joyous announcement!
You deserve every happiness in the world, & you are entering into life with your eyes open & a good idea of how to get that happiness!

Other peoples happiness.......
by obiwan init's so sad sometimes to see people question anothers happiness.
there have been posts made about good things happening to our fellow posters here.
posters questioning good fortune and happiness.

Thanks for starting this thread Obi, it is much needed around here. If someone makes an announcement they are happy about, what gives anyone else the right to start criticizing? Really, most people on here know each other superficially. What gives anyone the right to play devil's advocate & start needling? What IS the purpose? Is anyone really going to change their mind/course of action, when they did not ASK for unsolicited advice in the first place?
I have been observing this board more lately, & I do seem to see the same posters spreading their negativity. When someone announces their engagement, what kind of person badgers her? I'd like to know. Raining on someone else's parade is just wrong. It just brings everyone down.
The road to hell was paved with good intentions! If indeed, the intentions were ever good at all :)

You sweet thing, it seems like an eternity, but 18 is close! Get the best grades you can, you need your education. You can probably go to those cousins of yours once your parents have no legal control or claim on you anymore. Everyone is here for you.
They are trying to make you feel like you are somehow deficient/flawed/wrong, but it is not YOU, it is THEM! I sort of went through this same thing, you can and will rise above it & be happy, I promise!

I think Pugwash WAS/IS a jw. why else would he be on here defending something he supposedly knows little about?

Politics.
by Englishman inwhy oh why do people start political threads on an ex-jw board?
isn't there enough political forums elsewhere on the net?
virtually every thread about political matters finishes up being locked, usually because someone starts to flame.. both sides of the recent plethora of political threads are now accusing the other of making propaganda.

It turns me off, & makes me not get involved on this board. People feel passionate about their positions, but any kind of imbalance where a person continuously spouts their rhetoric, starts threads that appear to be about other topics, & is just talking AT everyone else, smacks of attempts to influence other people's thoughts. Politics is a topic that historically has pissed people off. When I come on this board & see certain individuals continuously do this, I wonder how it helps anyone get on with their lives, or get freedom from the borg. There is enough stress in everyone's lives, I wonder what joy this brings to anyone, & what togetherness it promotes.

Is It All About YOU???
by minimus indo you think that you live your life mostly giving to others-----or, is it all about you?
-
gypsywildone
I think you are talking about a BORE here, Min. People that dominate conversations, never allowing others to get a word in edgewise. People that hijack conversations & are masters at manipulating the conversation right back to THEM. Personally, I avoid them.
I prefer a few good friends to a bunch of hangers on that I can't count on.

Some stuff I wanted to say.
by joelbear inmetatron's post about the decline and fall of "the society" led me to want to post some snippets of my family's saga with "the truth".. my parents were taught witness doctrine by a man named jim jones.
he was threatened by mobs during wwii for being a witness and not being patriotic.
my parents met during wwii at an airplane factory before they were witnesses.

I would venture a guess that there are vastly different standards for the Williams sisters & for those that bring money or attention to the watchtower.
