Very interesting book titled ,
The bible in the British museum
Interpreting the evidence.
It is a guidebook of archaelogy findings in the museum, very interesting chapters.
One of them has a finding that proves Jerusalem was not destroyed in 607, but several years earlier.
Pictures/description/explanation
makes more sense than the ramblings of a bunch of old men living in new York

What is your strangest "supernatural" JW story?
by donny ini had just became a witness and a guy i worked with, who was also a jw, told me a story that actually made me laugh and i think it upset him a bit.
the storys were almost always in the third person.
it went as follows.. this brothers wife and him were sitting at the kingdom hall on the end seats of the row next to the back of the room.

back in the late 1970's a group of JW's went to a Kenny Rogers concert one night, and during the show he
would flip glow in the dark frisbee's into the crowd that had his name/logo imprinted on it. One of the brothers
ended up catching one.
This brother went on a camping trip several weeks later, and the Frisbee that he caught during the show
landed in the campfire by accident.
Well the darn thing would not burn, so the rest of the evening the group focused on tried to destroy it by fire but it
wouldn't melt. Some people from the group honestly claimed with a straight face that it made screaming sounds when it was in the fire
They came back convinced that the Frisbee was demonized and could not be destroyed.
I heard that it was thrown in the garbage, and that was the end of the "demonized" Frisbee.
Honest story, and for years afterward anything pertaining to Kenny Rogers was looked at as a "bad" thing in our hall. -

My Story - Part 3
by Jeremy C inmy story - part 1. my story - part 2. in my previous thread (part 2) i stated that i would talk about my experience as a regular pioneer in this thread.
all of them took a special interest in me and gave me encouragement.
i told him i would think about it.

On top of writing a very good experience, you liven it up considerably by the use of humor,
It was quite surreal to listen to a Popeye-Ewok voice speak about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego;
comments like that are really funny ! -

thank you for your service !!
several years ago when I was beginning my fade I took my 13 year old son to a reunion of soldiers that
fought at D-day. I felt the usual JW guilt feelings beforehand, but after meeting the men, talking to them about
their experiences, I felt nothing but shame for the way I felt earlier, these guys were all in their 70's and
they all spent real personable time with my son explaining to him what it was like, and how they dealt with that day.
several times I got choked up listening to them, it was a real soul-opening experience for me, and a lesson in
reality for my son
All I can say is good for you !!!! -

Waste of Paper Distribution Campaigns
by WTWizard inthis year, we had the reject jesus party invitations.
the witlesses wasted almost a whole month getting those things out, and dismally failed.
almost no one went because they got a waste of paper.

I deal with paper and prices for a living, and the prices are only starting to get crazy, wait and see what happens !
they are now starting to make paper with a certain % of clay instead of using all pulp :

little WT extras
by agent zero inyou know whats always bothered me intensely?
.. when witnesses (esp.
pioneers) have all the little wt extras, such as the wt year agenda, the wt removable book covers, bible with their name printed on the leather cover, the rv book with the little tower logo on it, "pens from patterson" etc.

here is the site that sells all the JW stuff,
http://www.stoopsmfg.com/
some pretty funny stuff here
remember the people at the wt study who would high lite every paragraph with 2 or 3 different colors, and almost every word
would be highlighted ?
I would look at them and think wtf,,, why would you do that, can't you think and answer by yourself ?? -

there was a commotion in the back, the ambulance came, they took her out, and the meeting never missed a beat.
No compassion at all. -

The practice of "Shepherding Calls" (attention ex-elders)
by Lady Zombie inthe practice of "shepherding calls" has always been somewhat of a mystery to me.. growing up, a shepherding call was for jws who were doing something that a few/some/most (didn't matter which) found stumbling or suspicious.
for instance, i remember my folks gossiping to each other about a jw couple who had been sloughing off the meetings in order to go dancing.
one of the congregation members (who were absent themselves on a particular night) saw them going into a dance club on a meeting night and promptly ran to an elder.

years ago (1977-1985) my congregation elders would stop by about once a year to just
check on everyone in the congregation, not a guilt session, just a really neat visit.
The last time (2005 ?
new, young elders so full of their "importance and appearance" that I literally got a headache listening to them.
Visits ? try once every 5 years.
There is one married elder that was SO interested / worried about all the young girls age 13-20 that is all he
pays attention to.
If you were thinking about fading. he will pass you off to someone else.
yet if you just happen to be a teenage girl, you have his complete attention 24-7.
And if you are a male in this age group, he looked at them like they were all predators, staring at the young girls and
just thinking of ways to make trouble for the elders.
How people like this become elders in the first place is beyond me, it must be a part of the good old boys club.
