last convention before global attack on witnesses

so it's not enough that i'm dealing with post traumatic stress/anxiety and panic attacks all related to my life as a jw (50 years baptized -- i stopped going a couple of months ago) at 3 a.m. i get an email from the other side of the world.

'you have to go to the convention.

bro sanderson says we must watch the news, things are happening.

I went with a large group of witnesses to see " The Empire Strikes Back" after a convention the summer when the movie opened.

Everyone just loved the movie, but then the conversation and mood completely changed when someone said, " well, this is probably going to be the last Star Wars movie before Armageddon, maybe George Lucas can hurry up and make the next movie pretty quick".

That conversation just wrecked the afternoon for pretty much everyone, but there were those diehard witnesses who just kept bringing up how sad they were that this was the end of Star Wars.

Fast forward to 2017. There have been how many, 8-9 more Star Wars movies since then ? Try not to let their ignorant chatter derail your life. your too important!

Im "Going To Die In Armageddon"

3 missed calls from my jw brother last night.

i didnt answer because he's actively shunning me and when he does ring it always to preach to me about how we're so close to the end and how i should "humble myself before the mighty hand of god" .

he then texts me saying "we need to talk".

maybe i am "gasping for straws"... maybe not.

call the spca on the witnesses.. in the convention they'll have various "musical videos" so that people actually sit down during the "musical interludes".... in one of the videos they show children with various animals... enjoying life now.. that... is a real, live fish... with a tattoo!!

it appears in one of the convention videos.... it involves the same process as tattooing a human... same amount of pain... but obviously can't get approval from them!.

Would You EVER Go Back To Being A Jehovah's Witness?

i could never understand why some people who know the truth about the "truth" ever go back.

once you understand all the hypocrisy and negatives, i would think it's almost impossible to go back!.

Nope, my witness life consisted of growing up with parents and sisters in this religion. there were Good times, but the overwhelming craziness was always in the background. Then I got married, and we raised our kids as jw's. they both bolted away when grown up.

Now to return, and hopefully try and renew that life, get back with old friends, and continue on ???? That to me is just plain desperation. Life moves on, old friends grow old, their kids move on, new people come in, it would be a total new group. And with the stigma of actually having left the religion, I would be totally miserable.

an old friend who was a cop divorced his wife, got df'd and recently returned to the witness fold. He told me that he "misses the friends, and he wants people to attend his funeral when he dies😯. That was three years ago, and I've heard that he moved to another hall because he cannot stand the elders.

I just shake my head and take several deep breaths when I hear what he is doing.

effect of shunning

i have read quite a bit on this site about the effect of shunning, mainly how the person being shunned reacts to it.

and then there is the wt reaction, how everything is the df'ed persons fault.. well, i ran across this article today.

some might think it is way too off base with the drug problem that this girl faced.. but the point i got out of it is how important it is to help the person with the problem instead of walking away and expecting that ignorance will cure the problem.

Well, I ran across this article today. Some might think it is way too off base with the drug problem that this girl faced.

But the point I got out of it is how important it is to help the person with the problem instead of walking away and expecting that ignorance will cure the problem.

I knew several people over the years who were ignored by their jw family/friends because New York told them to do the jw "right thing"

How sad this religion is.

Earthquake!.. and JW superstition.

while in service on saturday, i was sitting with an elder that i have known for years having a coffee break.

we were discussing the up-coming convention and what we had to do etc.

then, (there was a tv up on the wall in the coffee place where we were) on the screen burst the news of the nepal earthquake.

JW's and Selling Stuff at the Hall

my wife got an invite to a "party" and got me thinking...... one of the biggest things that used to annoy me was how many members of the congregation were involved in those mlm sales schemes or "work from home" companies and they used the kh as the hub of their business.

many of those companies are very legit, and i have no problem with people selling that stuff, its just that people would use their field service tactics to pressure others in the hall to buy stuff.. every week, a member of my family would get invited to a candle party, cosmetics party, tupperware party, vitamin party, etc......you could go bankrupt just from the constant flow of parties and feeling obligated to buy something.. the sad part was that if you turned down the invite or went and didnt buy anything, you would offend the selller!.

then, they would always run around and deliver their orders before and after the meeting (unles the elders put a stop to it), otherwise you would see them out in their car after the meeting distributing everyones' orders.. .

we had a sister who had a relative that was a paramedic in town.

One night she invited many of the younger people from the hall over to her house and had a CPR/first aid party.

From what I heard, it was great ! the younger people learned a skill, and they didn't feel pressured to buy anything.

back in september of 08 my mom died, and both of my parents had been jw's since 1978.. in the mid 80's they moved down south to retire.

and she was the type of person who remembered everyones anniversary, if someone got .

sick, or died she would send a card, flowers, to the family or call.. even years after they moved away !.

I find it amazing that for years the scripture in John 13:35,

"your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples" (new living translation)

was one of the main reasons I remained loyal to the wtbts. I really believed that they followed this admonition.

After reading some of the comments posted above, my jaw literally dropped.

Aude Sapere's story regarding his cancer treatment, and Blondie's story,,, completely opposite from what this scripture states.

I'm truly sorry that you both had to go through that stuff,,, you both must have a "core of steel" to successfully get out of there with

a level head !

that is exactly what i told someone in field service once.

i went to the door with another brother, and started my presentation.

i noticed the lady was crying and asked if everything was ok. she said that they just got back from the vet, and that they had to put the cat to sleep.
