Do you miss God?
by wobble inif you are one of the posters on here who has got to the point where you do not believe in god to any great extent, do you miss "him".
i find that i rarely used to ask god for anything, or load him up with my problems, everybody elses were far more urgent, but i did used to feel moved to praise him when i saw the beauties of creation, a sunset etc.. i now feel an urge to still do that, but do not believe anyone is listening, do you get moments like that ?.
love.

Everything feels broken
by Sapphy inhi all - beware, long post comming up!.
i've always been a person who 'needed to know'.
as a born in i felt incredibly lucky that my parents and grandparents had found 'the truth' - no need to struggle to 'break free from babylon's bondage' for me!

I think for many there is a need to replace one religion with another. Your life has revolved around knowing what is true and what will happen in the future. So if this isn't true then SOMETHING must be. Stop thinking that you know nothing - you know one imortant fact - the JW religion is a mind control cult who mess with peoples lives. Then be ready to learn more from reliable sources. Try and do something tht you have never allowed yourself to do - live for the moment. It seem very indulgent, but it will give you time to re-group your thoughts and find out who you really are. Look after yourself first and foremost and then you can take time to read, discuss, learn and pick out what you want to believe. You can also be free to change your mind on your beliefs whenever you want to. Freedom can be very scary, but it is also liberating - the possibilities are endless.

Question concerning pedophiles
by Out at Last! inin everything i have read and heard, pedophiles associated with the wt organization have been men.
i believe that everyone will agree that pedophilia is not an all male problem, some women prey on children also.
has anyone read or heard of women in the organization accused of pedophilia?

Yes women do have more opportunity to abuse children - we are the carers, babysitters, teachers, and seen as the nurturers. We have recently had a case in the United Kingdom where a Nursery (kindergarden)worker was found to have abused babies in her care, taken photographs of the abuse, posted it on the internet to a newtwork of paedophile friends - some of them women! It shocked eveyone, as she would not be seen as any kind of threat. Outwardly she loved kids, had kids of her own, was police cleared. There was then a lot of discussion in newspapers and tv about female abusers. It's made me realise that female abusers are not rare. Abuse by male or female adults is equally abhorrent, but there is something about our expectations that in society famales will protect children that makes it seems worsel.

Volunteering
by Quillsky innow that you, as a former jw, have a few evenings and some weekend time freed up, and "charity" is no longer a dirty word, ........ do you do any kind of volunteer work?.
i'm seriously thinking about it..

Oh, I should mention, that one of the volunteers I support is a J.W. She is a lovely woman, who has gone through a lot. Here ex-husband (elder) cheated on her, was disfellowshipped, got re-instated with his new wife. She had a mental breakdown, and was recommended to us for some voluntary work. She knows my family, but pretends not to. I know that she knows me as an 'apostate'(ish) and she knows that I know her as a JW, but we keep it out of the equation. She is so sweet and I care a lot about her, but I cannot use my position to talk about the TRUTH. She is too vulnerable for me to do this. It's like we do a little dance around it. Sometimes I want to shout out the truth to her, but I cannot, as it would not be appropriate. She has come on so much, and is well liked by everyone, but she never talks about the FALSE - she obviously sees it as inappropriate too.

thinking - what attracts people to the JW cult
by Married to the Mob intd made an interesting point in a anther thread that jw attracts unhappy people.
i agree with him but i have another theory, maybe its not true but there must be an element to it.. independent adaptive thinking.
i can cook, infact if i blow my own trumpet i can cook really well!

It's sad but it appeals to our most basic evoluntionary needs - food, shelter, health, stability. We are drawn to anything that can make this possible for us. It starts off as very simple and good and descends into a pit of absolute mind controlling heartbreak that is so difficult to give up. Initially the more people fear they cannot achieve the basics, the more they ae drawn into false hopes.

he was a super intelligent gay man.
i never knew that..

I suppose it's just a follow on from when people said that Jesus was a 'hippy'. It's just using the modern interpretation of gentle, peace-loving, accepting etc. and cloaking it in whatever we want to.

Is it just me or is there some doubt as to 'sex addiction'? It seems to be an affliction than only affects rich, and famous men. All other men out there who have countless affairs - you are womanising scumbags, and woe betide any women - you are absolute SLAGS! So, if you're rich and famous, and want to play the field, and play the field, and play the field.......you have a sex addiction. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Very interesting listening. I am sure they knew you had something on them, but they had no alternative but to go through the process of their kangaroo court. Actually, you could just have easily have been talking to robots - they were totaly pre-programmed. Don't know how you could have remained so calm. Also, loved listening to my native tongue!

Part of my job is recruiting, training and supporting volunteers for the charity I work for. I can testify that the benefit the volunteers get is enormous. Almost all of them report an increase in self-esteem, self-worth, an improvement in their mental health, an increase in their social network and skills that can be used in the workplace. I treasure them all and appreciate everything that they do for us. I have also volunteered in the past and I would say that it is very worthwhile and mutually beneficial. Just be sure that the organisation or group has all the necessary policies and guidelines in place to protect you.
