on the thread about the pdf for the 2003 listening to the great teacher book, i posted about the arguement my hubby and i had over this book when it first came out.

i threw out the 2 copies my kids had and then regretted it because i think this book is very telling about the wt organization and the issue of pedophiles and child molestation.

i wanted to address what happened here too for discussion.. i am not good at copying over texts so perhaps someone else can post here pages 59-60 in this book where sexual content is explained in vivid detail using the terms penis and vulva.

Wow-did the earlier books talk so much about demons and how to make them happy? That was a little sick, even leaving out the genital explanation. Was that in the earlier(pink) book that I was given around 1970ish? I only ask since my mom LOVED the term 'vulva' and I now assume it was WT approved word for girl parts. And yes, I see my 'girl' or 'female' doctor. Who is a male and laughs because he is often called that:)

No - as far as I recall the Learn from the Great Teacher book is only about 5 years old, and is a current placement item!

The Reasoning Book is Inspired

that is what 2 jw ladies who came to my door recently told me..

to start at the beginning, periodically, these ladies have called and spoken to mrs thirdson but always on a week day.

mrs thirdson is always very polite and has accepted the mags saying that i might be interested in reading them but making it clear that we are christians and not interested in joining their religion.

Okay - how to translate the AWFUL greek of Revelation.

i have been thinking about leos post on revelation.. the early church fathers could see how bad the greek was.

unfortunately modern translations iron everything out and make it sound perfectly cogent.

by correcting the grammar en route to the target language, the scholars are actually hiding the real text, and so prevent us from realising that it could have been written by a wing nut.. are there any places where the use of the language is so bad, that if we translated honestly we might get:.

Well, Leo has you covered, but I did have a look at the interlinear tonight. Of course, before I even opened it I realized it was a doomed effort.

If you take a clunky, hack-job Greek text and translate it word-for-word into another language, English in this case, you'll get clunky, half-job english.

But if you take a beautifully written Greek text and translate it word for word into English, you'll still get clunky, half-job english because languages don't express ideas in the same way!

So yeah it was pointless from the start. Don't know why I didn't realize that immediately. However it was still more interesting to read my interlinear than it was to listen to the dreck they were spewing.

I finally said it...I don't like jw's

i'm vacation and watched as my wife headed out for her piosneering this past monday...i was pissed, because i'm here, but she'd rather be out there, hawking the wares of the borg as a non-paid employee.

i stewed in the house for 3-4 hours, angry that i took vows with this woman, but she essentially is forsaking those vows for her "friends", when she knows i don't care for it.

well the tolerance finally wore off!

The difference is, she has continually misrepresented herself on this board while both annoying the piss out of everyone AND flagrantly disobeying her beloved Governing Body's command not to post on Apostate Sites. She's not a "victim", she is intentionally promulgating cultic mind poison.

on monday, october 20th, in elk city, oklahoma, a jehovah's witness knocked on my very good friend's door.

she did not know at the time that he was a jw but he was passing out literature.

she thought it might be someone out campaigning for a political candidate.

She just looked at me like I was a two headed monster and didn't speak to me the rest of the morning for making her "look stupid". For which I thought, well.......... if you actually are stupid, its not hard to make you look that way is it?
Anyway, she never worked with me again in service.

I remember the ninja moves this one "brother" used to pull with me in service. We had this RV who was a real christian and really knew his stuff, and he'd always make fools of us becuase he wouldn't allow us to use any WT trash - only the Bible. Anyways, the "brother" got his bible bound with the Reasoning book in the back, and I knew my doctrine pretty well and could think on my feet, so I'd talk to the householder and engage him while the "brother" looked up the topic under discussion in his Reasoning book! Even though the househoulder always specifically told us when we showed up that he "only wanted to hear about the Bible."

So stupid, so petty. I don't engage householders anymore when I am forced into field circus, I can't sit there and defend an indefensible belief system. I just offer ragazines and get the hell out of there ASAP and never come back.
