Well, Reniaa, YWHW did have a knack for "sending out a lying prophet" and in other ways misleading / confusing the Jews. I guess it was just a jolly old time for him to, for example, tell David to take a census and then kill 70 000 Isrealites for David having taken a census! What fun!

jesus denies being God! scriptural discussion.
by reniaa ini thought after recently reading the bible i would put up for disussion some recent scriptures up which for me show that jesus never viewed himself as god and anyone listening would also see it this way too.. first mark 10 :17-20.
17as jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him.
"good teacher," he asked, "what must i do to inherit eternal life?

"The Truth" Tract - A Delusional Fraud?
by metatron inthe new tract promises to tell you how to find true happiness.
does anyone ever suffer from false happiness?
how does that oxymoron work?.
-
DoomVoyager
Well, in the interests of debate, there is "false happiness" in the sense that people are capable of deluding themselves into thinking that they're happy, when deep down inside, they're not.
UNFORTUNATELY for the dubbies who have to peddle these rags, they are suffering from perhaps the most acute case of "false happiness" found in the modern world.
It's the old "We are Jehovah's people, therefore we are happy. If we are not happy, we cannot be Jehovah's People! Therefore we are happy. We are Jehovah's People, therefore..."

Did you understand doctrine when you were "in"?
by halcyon indid you ever actually understand most of the doctrine when you were a jw?
or did you think that you didn't understand it because you didn't study enough?
that's what i thought about paradise earth.

I was born in, so I understood it perfectly in the sense that I had all the doctrine memorized inside out, and had no reason to disbelieve it... but as soon as I read an "apostate website" of course that all fell apart.

Galatians -- A Commentary for Active Jehovah's Witnesses
by OldSoul inhere paul states that the source of his teaching was not human.
he did not receive it from men.
he also saw james, who was not an apostle.

Did the newly converted Paul see fit to clear his apostleship with anyone, for instance, to make sure the older men in Jerusalem were aware of his changed status? Did he feel it was necessary to check in with them before commencing his assignment? No. He immediately began his preaching.
Isn't it customarily thought that he spent 2 or 3 years in Arabia studying the OT first? I recall the CO quoting some scripture that said so and then nauseatingly twisting it to prove the following point:
"When Paul was anointed, he didn't just march up to the older men in Jerusalem and say "well OK, I'm an apostle now, so here are all the things I want changed and here's how we're going to do them"... no, he studied the scriptures and kept quiet for several years! So if you have ideas about things that could be changed in the organization, you should shut the hell up and read the Watchtower for 2 or 3 or 50 years."
Not in quite those words, but that is what he said. Amazing how they can twist any scripture to prove any point.

Blondie, Mary, Billy, excellent comments as always! But this:
Why does the WTS use such stilted language, elderly "ones," young "ones," older "ones", what is with this "ones"?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Finally! Someone else who is bothered by this! What the christ is the meaning of it all? I've never heard ANY non-JW use the term "ones". There is no such this as a plural "one!" One is one! "Ones" is either two, or three, or perhaps "several"! I know I'm a pedantic little shit, but it bothers me SO MUCH with their stupid "ones". I feel like breaking things. Preferably the GB's skulls.

Boring bookstudy book...which one was the worst?
by White Dove ini remember the old timers saying that the red babylon book was the hardest to understand.. in my memory, i'd have to say the isaiah books and daniel book were the most involved and boring.. the revelation book had gorgeous pictures in it (the writing was horribly boring), so i just looked at them, and i was 22 at the first study of it!.
-
DoomVoyager
The current book (Live with Jehovah's Day in Mind) is incredibly vapid and lacking in substance. I might almost have to vote for it.
Revelation is at least interesting. Even if it's mind-bogglingly absurd, I can't see how you'd call it boring.
The Isaiah books were boring only becuase of how long they dragged on. What was it, 3 years?
I thought Daniel was extremely interesting (as far as WT dreck goes, anyway)

As of tomorrow I will no longer be a JW
by passwordprotected inafter my last post where i asked for advice on how to handle whether i should tell an elder that we've been going to church, i decided to tell a local elder who's related to me through marriage.
this was to save my dad having to 'report' me (i'd told my dad we go to church).
anyway, i had an interesting chat with him and he said some very personally revealing things re.

Would you legalize Polygamy?
by sammielee24 init appears that so far almost 300 of the cases from the texas raid have been investigated and dropped.
one girl - the one who has wed to jessop, was placed in foster care.. removing the isolationist tendancies of the mormon group and that specific religion - if the state wanted to legalize polygamy, would you agree or disagree?
the issue of gay marriages has come up and been voted on - but if people could legally wed as adults and have more than one wife, complete with the responsibilities that legal marriages come with - what would the objection be?
