The whole 1914 thing is going to look pretty ridiculous in 2015.

Zen Living Part 10 (summarized): Breath and Other Paths to Mindfulness
by JimmyPage intechniques to help calm and focus your mind toward mindfulness include following your breath, counting your breath, visualizing, relaxing, or focusing on a visual point (such as a mandala) or a sound (such as a mantra).. many religious, philosophical, and spiritual traditions throughout the world use different meditation techniques, and all of them may be useful for quieting mental clamor.. kinhin is the walking counterpart to zazen.. eventually, you will be able to sit in awareness without techniques and then carry that awareness throughout the day..

Would the Watchtower Society be Republican or Democrat, if it were political?
by Quillsky ini believe it's very republican in its outlook..

My brother-in-law had this discussion once and we both decided they are definitely Republican.

Are you SEEKING the TRUTH of the bible unaided?
by EndofMysteries inhey,.
i'm hoping some on here, maybe realizing that what the bible really teaches, no church or religion has it.
your learning and working hard to uncover it's true message.

Are you SEEKING the TRUTH of the bible unaided?
No, I'm reading "The Atheist's Book of Bible Stories" written by one of the posters on this board. It's great stuff!

My in-laws are all about "testing" whether someone needs a certain supplement by holding their hand. This in spite of WT articles and talks not to do it.

Unbelievers in the pulpit are exposed
by moshe ini just read a short story about clergy who keep preaching even though they have become unbelievers- it's called play acting for dollars.. http://www.tmatt.net/2010/05/10/voices-of-unbelievers-in-pulpits/.
"on sunday mornings, you will find him leading hymns in one of the independent church of christ congregations somewhere in south carolina.. call him "adam.
" he is a church administrator, a "worship minister" and a self-proclaimed "atheist agnostic.

Hell, I can remember giving a talk at the KH and then celebrating Valentine's with a worldly girlfriend by staying the night at her place later that evening. I remember amusing myself about advising against smoking pot in a talk after having toked up within that past same month. For some people the stage does become a performance and a rush. If I ever have to get up on that stage again knowing what I know now you better bring your videocameras cuz what I say about the borg will be all over Youtube.

Shawshank Redemption and leaving Jehovah's Witnesses
by AllTimeJeff ini doubt very seriously that i am the first to make the connection of exiting jw's and much of the movie "shawshank redemption".. frequently, the injustice that many experience as baptized members of jehovah's witnesses cause them to want to resign, to leave.. but it is a prison of sorts.
if you leave and announce it, you are shunned.
and no one will talk to you.. shawshank is such a remarkable movie to me for its simple, underlying theme; finding meaning in our suffering, and never stopping the fight against injustice, esp against our own freedom.. the best part of the movie is the line "you can either get busy living, or get busy dying.".
-

"Shawshank" definitely mirrors real life when it comes to JWs. So does "The Truman Show". And watching the show "V" has really struck me on a deeper level lately as well.

ExJWs & "Adult" Subjects On The Forum
by minimus ini think we have a tendency to get ourselves involved in subjects that might be "r" or worse rated because we couldn't as a jehovah's witness.. any talk or discussion of something considered "wrong" would get you into trouble.. many of us who were brought up in the religion never had any real "normal fun" growing up.
we couldn't associate with "worldly" people and even jws were considered "bad association" if they didn't fit the congregation's ideals.
we couldn't tell an off colored joke.

Raunchy humor in general does not offend me. In the past I was far more irritated by posters who constantly belittled and insulted others on this board. Unfortunately those people were often considered "witty" although they rarely contributed anything of substance to a thread. They constantly broke the rules of the board about being respectful to others but for the most part the mods looked the other way. I rejoice that they are finally gone.
