I don't know but I think our PO has reason to be concerned. He always makes a joke about "those who make gods out of their bellies". Then he looks at his own belly and says "Some gods are bigger than others". Not good to make light of one of the seven deadly sins my portly friend LOL!

Sharing the truth
by JimmyPage insometimes i want to burst at the seams and tell my friends and relatives about all the new things i've learned about watchtower history and all the falsehoods.
there were times when i thought my mom was more reasonable than my dad and might listen.
but having talked to her on the phone the other day she was all excited about the assembly she just went to.

Sometimes I want to burst at the seams and tell my friends and relatives about all the new things I've learned about Watchtower history and all the falsehoods. There were times when I thought my Mom was more reasonable than my Dad and might listen. But having talked to her on the phone the other day she was all excited about the assembly she just went to. I'm starting to resign myself to keeping my mouth shut for my own good. It's funny though. I never had a strong desire to share the WT version of "truth" with "unbelievers". But I would love to open some eyes to what I'm learning now. At my parents' age it would probably just break their hearts to realize how much time they've wasted. Maybe it's better to let them keep their rose-colored glasses.

So... Do you think you're good looking?
by LouBelle inafter laylas' : do you think looks are important thread, thought this would be a good follow up.. personally i'm just a regular girl, nothing exception, got good teeth, i do love my hair and don't think i'm ugly, but know that i'm no stunner either .

Growing up I was always too skinny. My hairstyle wasn't working for me either as I have a cowlick up front. But as I've gotten older, put on weight, worked out, and found a hairstyle that works and hides the cowlick, I get compliments on my looks. Having been an ugly duckling though I never forget that and so don't let the compliments go to my head.

My wife's brother recently went to Costa Rica to vacation and to visit their fleshly sister. He is a pioneer. When he got back a group of their pioneer friends got together. One of them asked, "Why did you go to Costa Rica?" Another butted in and said, "To preach! To preach!" My wife knew that wasn't the case but her brother didn't correct the wrong assumption. Instead he basked in the attention and the exaltation of his "spiritual sacrifice".
On the surface he and his wife look exemplary as they both pioneer. But being in this family I know that in reality he never even wanted to pioneer but was badgered into it by his wife. She wanted to learn a foreign language but he had no interest in it really. They are always being used in meeting and assembly parts for their "wonderful example". Just curious- what stories can you relate that are similar to this?

Jehovah's Witnesses can celebrate Christmas now!
by sacolton in... birthdays too!.
well, not yet, but if the governing body decides that it's okay to celebrate christmas and birthdays .... how do you suppose the typical jw would feel ... especially those who lived their whole life being told to not celebrate and.
wishing they could?.

Great thread Sacolton! I really enjoyed the info about rings. Reminded me of the new light about cats on the authorized CO's page. Blondie's information about pinatas shows just how hypocritical the Society's pick-and-choose-what's-pagan policies are.

todays "Special" talk?
by bite me incan someone tell me what happened, what was said.
what topics were discussed?
thanks in advanced.
-
JimmyPage
It was the exact same old recycled sh*t. You could have heard this talk 30 years ago and not a word would be changed. All about the failure of human governments and how God's Kingdom will be so much better. Anything new to that?

Was I alone in my thinking about the year 1994?
by JimmyPage inat one time the society taught that the generation of 1914 would see the end of this world.
since the society always used the bible to explain itself i did the same.
i thought, well the bible says our years are 70 or 80, if we have special mightiness.

At one time the Society taught that the generation of 1914 would see the end of this world. Since the Society always used the Bible to explain itself I did the same. I thought, well the Bible says our years are 70 or 80, if we have special mightiness. That gave me 1994 as the very latest for the end to come (1914 plus 80= 1994). I never heard anyone else say this. But interestingly enough the Society changed the definition of "generation" right after '94 passed (in '95 or '96, can't remember which). Which leads me to think that there MUST have been others thinking the same way I did. So tell me- was I alone in applying the "our years are 70 or 80" scripture to the generation of 1914 and coming up with 1994? I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this!

I watched Doctor Who religiously as a kid. (Am I allowed to say that? Religiously? LOL) A lot of people like Tom Baker. But Peter Davidson was always The Man to me. Loved those cliffhangers, cheesy as the show was. I wanted to go into that Tardis and leave this boring planet.

I still believe in Jesus. My favorite books of the Bible have always been the Gospels. I love the movie "Jesus of Nazareth". I still don't believe in the Trinity though.
I never liked the God of the Old Testament. He always seemed so angry.
I still don't believe in Hellfire. But Armageddon seems just as cruel. Billions of people- look out for the hailstones!
I'm glad I'm not a racist. But I've also grown not to be prejudiced because of a person's beliefs. Or their sexuality.
I never thought there was much scriptural evidence for the blood transfusion ban.
Ditto for birthdays. Mentioned twice in the Bible, something bad happened at each, so God is putting it in a bad light, right? Uh, no.
It's amazing how open your eyes become when you get past the WT's faithful and discreet slave teaching. One little parable. So much mind control.
How have your beliefs morphed over time?
