Why is it stressful to be a Witness?
by Mindchild ini would honestly appreciate any feedback of why, in simple terms, you feel there are stresses to being a witness.
the source of stress you have in mind doesn't have to be gigantic.
i'm looking to catalog a list of all the things causing stress to witnesses.. here is a list of ten things i could think of, and there are probably many more.

1. Going door to door and hating it.
2. Self-righteousness.
3. Wearing pantyhose.
4. Giving talks.
5. Trying to keep your kids quiet at meetings.
6. Cleaning the men's restroom.
7. Spending money you really could use elsewhere to go to conventions.
8. Going to conventions.
9. Dealing with obnoxious elders & elderettes with low i.q's.
10. Realizing after being a JW for over 40 years that anyone who isn't baptized is an UNBELIEVER. Oh for crying out loud...how can you believe in Jehovah and Christ and be an unbeliever? Can you say ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!! -

DA'd myself today
by Pierced Angel inwell, i did it.. it's official and i'm relieved.. the elders wanted to try talking to me once again, but after awhile it was obvious that they were only interested in changing my thoughts not answering any questions.
so, i just calmly asked if i could disassociate myself.
they acted stunned and they got tears in their eyes, but i told them that i had already grieved and was ready to move on with life.

Thank you for your kind words Marilyn. I have such admiration for all of you who have taken the final steps to free yourselves and regain some self-respect. I just hate being in this living "limbo"...but don't just have myself to consider, with all my relatives being JW's. My mom is 81...my husband's parents are 90 and 87. They believe in the organization as much as I don't believe in it anymore. Man...what a bummer.

Such a courageous step to take. I envy you as I (or my husband) have not yet reached that point. (BUT...I did send my oldest son a birthday card today. The first card I ever sent him in 24 years! Arghhhhhhhh...I felt like such a REBEL and it felt so good!!) Maybe it's gonna take a lot of little steps like this before I actually take the final step to "cut the cord" as you have done.
I hope the step you took today brings you much peace in your heart.

In Search of Christian Freedom Poll
by Escargot inwell, a poll was taken on what impressed you about coc, now, what about franz second book, in search of christion freedom?.
when i read coc, i said, ok, just another man made religion, at least most the doctrines and the edicts were mostly right.
when i first opened isocf, i glanced the chapter index, what?, i thought, how can door to door be an issue?

Well Escargot..."In Search of Christian Freedom" appealed to me even more than "Crisis of Conscience". It was just what I needed to make my final decision to leave the JW organization. Everything in there was what I had been feeling for perhaps the last 10 years, maybe even longer. And it was written with more love, insight and compassion than I've ever seen in any elder, CO, DO, etc. that I have ever had contact with. Guess it brought on a true "light bulb" moment (Oprah-speak). How could I have really believed all this stuff all those years? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I truly believe that any JW who would read these two books would know that the JW organization has become far, far removed from what the Bible and Christ really taught.

Paragraph 20 from 12/15/01 Watchtower article "Learn From Me":
"Can we learn something from this event? Suppose you were an elder in a Christian congregation today. And further suppose that Leviticus 15:25-28 were a Christian requirement today and that a Christian woman had violated that law, feeling frantic and abandoned. How would you react? Would you publicly humiliate her with critical counsel? "Oh," you say, "never would I do that! Following Jesus' example, I would make every effort to be kind, loving, thoughtful, and considerate." Very good! But the challenge is to do it, to imitate Jesus' pattern."

Motivation
by ItsJustMe ini'm obviously new here, so i'm going to ask a question i'm sure has been discussed before but has me quite curious.
what motivates you to spend so much time discussing jehovah's witnesses?
-
HadEnuf
After spending a whole life-time as a JW and just recently making the decision to leave and not go back ever again...it is refreshing to find other people who have "been there, done that". And with the controlled mind-set of most if not all active JW's...a person who is in the process of leaving or has already left certainly doesn't have the freedom to discuss their feelings with the people who have supposedly been their "family" for (in my case) over four decades.
And besides, I can't afford a psychologist to help me with withdrawal. So this is cheap therapy.

Shunning and then saying its a loving thing to do?
by serenaj92 ini realized the bondage i was under as one of jehovah's witnesses and left the organization.
it pressed fear, paranoia, and even anger in me that i wasn't used to.
i started to resent being one.
-

I was watching that "Education of Max Bickford" (or something like that) show on CBS and they were talking about shunning (not for religious beliefs...but for something else)...and I thought they summed it up pretty well when they said shunning is just another name for ORGANIZED CRUELTY.

I just put my kitty down today - BW-A-A-A
by Trotafox inthere is this great big hole in my heart.
he started acting poorly last wed. he stopped eating friday and went downhill steadily.
i raced him to the vets.
-
HadEnuf
I am so sorry about your cat trotafox. I can really empathize with you because we had to have our beloved kitty of 11 years "put to sleep" in July. We miss him very much...but we haven't decided yet if we will get another. He would be a hard act to follow! The emotional turmoil was pretty bad; but it is getting better.
I've heard some people say to go out and get another cat as soon as possible and others say to wait for a few months. People really DO go through mourning periods for their pets!
Hang in there.

Any ex-district overseers here?
by YoYoMama ini would like to know if any of you were ex-district overseers or other "heavy" men in the organization and what made you leave?
-
HadEnuf
Well...I could have been a district overseer...but my application came back stamped..."No Women Allowed!" Go figure!
