first off, i make no claim to being an authority on cults or mind control.

i do however have first hand experience of it by being a victim of it.

how does the wts begin to excercise control over one's mind?

Erm were do you get the painting crap from? as a hobby I do paintings on the side not to blow my own trumpet but i had two Jw's visit, (current ones i'm talking too about my thoughts on going back) and once they realised all the pictures in my home where my own work they where trying to get me to do some for them, I had to politely decline because my painting is very limited and for family only atm, but i had a couple of guranteed commisions there if i wanted lol

I don't mind genuine Jw gripes like shunning, overt strictness, power issues etc but the painting thing is ridiculous and not one i ever came across unless it's obviously sexual stuff etc

You talk like JW's invent mind-control, what they do teach us is to question things i've been outside of Jw's for 11 years, here's a list of observations i find personally out of the JW's...

1/ People live in the now and are very accepting of current living conditions, they blame others but do nothing.

2/ people are very isolated from each other internet is the new social forum,

3/ You are judged by Job or money as a single mum living in a council house i get judge as a leech of society.

4/ I miss having friends from all age-groups! outside I find i'm encouraged to associate only with those of my type ie other single mums, I try to make friend from other groups but am always blown off, As with Jw's men are still a no-go for opposite reasons any interest on my part is always taken as sexual, I made friends with a 60+ year old man he was sweet and I liked him platonically only, in my niavity I didn't realise he read my honest friendship as more and i had to extract myself with great difficulty from that friendship so as not to hurt his feelings.

5/ All conversations revolve around money and buying things or current woes, I miss deeper conversations of depth, hense why i get attracted to forums such as this one, debate is unheard of thing in my circles, complaints are common but not trying to understand things.

The mindcontrol talked about on this forum is found in all beliefs structures I find, just question someone on evolution asking why none of the current scientist can agree eeek or try and question someone on why they celebrate christmas when its not jesus's birthday the best answer you will get is "Everyone does it so i should too" or "I do it for my kids" or question any other person on their religion and it's practises, lol JW's see it as a way to convert you so I was surprised when I asked other religious people on theirs they get very defensive and reluntant to talk on it it's like a taboo subject and thats even before i mention i'm an ex-JW at which point they run like the wind lol.

Example of mind-control on a country-wide scale is how easy it was for our governments to persuade us to goto war in Iraq, Regret after the fact when the lies were revealed is pointless, At the time i can remember being almost attacked by questioning why we were sending our soldiers, as someone that was un-nationalistic and subversive.

we all know how hard it is, usually, for those rasied in the truth to readjust "outside in the world" once they leave ... so not to undermine them (esp.

for those who came in later in life - regardless of how many times from the podium you were instructed not to "leave the love you had at first" many of you are here because you found out the "truth about the truth" whether it was the people or doctrine or combination ... and were willing to open your mind, realize the "truth about the truth" and leave.

I was born in it and like above found it easier to leave because you automatically assume the grass will be greener with all the freedom outside the Jw's unfortunately all that freedom came at a price,

Now 10 years later I'm thinking of going back into JW's, two non-witness ex-hubbys one a alcoholic the other to selfish and into himself (not an unusual thing i find) to look after his disabled son, another partner recently abandoned me while I was pregnant....I liked myself better as a witness I enjoyed working for God not just waking each up each day I asking myself what i wanted and what my money could give me that day lol

Maybe you should ask if once in and experiencing the "world" do born JW's get tempted into thinking of going back like myself.

YHWH is just the consonants used but there would have been vowels with them but since ancient hebrew is along dead language, speculation on this is rife and even Jahweh is a more modern speculative version with no way to confirm its accuracy either.

But then should we not pronounce jehovah name because we no longer know the ancient hebrew way of prenouncing it? if that was the case most biblical names would be unprenounced,

Or should we follow the jewish tradition of not using it out of either respect or superstition.

One thing to point out this was an actual real name used (however we prenounce it) is the use of it in other names of the time many starting with JAH or JEH whichever way you prefer to put the first letters, these are used in descriptive name often stating something pertaining to Jehovah.

I wonder if jews did still use it would the trinity have ever been thought off? give someone a name and you make them more real, calling jehovah 'Lord' has in my opinion been directly causal in people thinking jesus is God who also was called lord.

But we don't even pronounece jesus's name correctly nowadays as i said in my earlier post its more correctly pronounced Jeshua, yet that doesn't matter? but Jehovah does? why?

And someone said we shouldn't pronounce God's name out of respect only using father lord etc but we don't apply that to jesus? as most christianity to quote someone above bats JESUS around like a pinata in everyday speak. yet they believe jesus is part of Godhead.

during one of their recent studies, my friend raised the topic of wt contradictions (flip-flops) using the classic resurrection (or not) of the ancient ones from sodom and gomorrah.

one can show where there are 7 flip-flops on this doctrine.

Thankyou R R thats an interesting list one that makes me wonder again that if actions and beliefs are inspired by bible teachings does that make the bible wrong? for example blood scriptures, or keeping yourself apart, the early christians translated as not eating blood sausage and would rather face being thrown to lions than eat it, also they avoided pegan festivities etc hmmm the eternal conflict of while not being a JW but still believing in the bible and knowing those scriptures exist, I find I dwell on it a lot :(

erm last time i looked the tetragramation is Gods name, superstition stopped jews prenouncing it but its still there in all the oldest writings

So are we really arguing here the viability of a latinised form of it? using jehovah, like the latinised jesus which is better pronounced as "Jeshua"

while i found it interesting, i also found it comical in their believes.

yet until i found this cartoon on youtube, it was hard to explain how mormons see the origin of man without cracking up.

the world population increases by 70 million each year.. this means that on the day armageddon strikes, at least 700 000 000 babies under the age of 10 wil be slaughtered.. 192 000 of these will be less than 24 hours old, many of them killed with their head barely hanging out of their mothers vagina.. how can the witlesses love a god that would do this - even long for it??.

it strikes me that for the witlesses morality is entirely relative.. i well remember the kingdumb song: "some paint god cruel" (wt does!!!).

While this is obviously a biased cartoon and should be taken as such 3 things stick out for me...

Firstly the racism that is shown from the book of mormon which reflects the time period it was written. Colour of skin is never an issue in the bible, races good or bad are biblical taken on who they are, not what they are in relation to appearance so as a book written supposedly as the next scriptures in conjunction with the bible there is a conflict here.

Next, do mormons really think they are going to be Gods? bible promises heaven not godship so this was confusing.

The gold tablets definately comes across as a direct plagurism/copy of the tablets with comandments on them from bible.

As the book of mormon is supposedly an add-on to bible there is a lot of conflicts between it and the bible, that for me put it more as something that hasn't got the bible's authenticity.
