I've been active on the ex-witness facebook sites for quite some time now. I noticed that all the good news came from here first, so I decided it was time for me to join.

Emotional Reactions to the Loss of the Book Study
by DT ini think the loss of the book study will hit some like a death of a friend.
it will mark the end of an era.
it will forever change the religion of jehovah's witnesses and i believe the change is completely irreversible.. of course, most witnesses will be delighted by this.

I don't believe anyone has mentioned the impact this will have on the foreign language groups. In my home town (which had 5 congregations), we had a Spanish language group, but for a long time they could only support a bookstudy group and a service arrangement. It was the bookstudy that eventually enabled them to start their own small Sunday meeting.
Idk if that's how they do it in other cities or countries, but I know that without the bookstudy, our little group never would have survived.

Ditching the Book Study. Is it just a Buy Now, Pay Later option for the WT?
by nicolaou init's unconfirmed and it may be nothing more than a rumour but it seems that the congregation book study may be about to see it's demise.
i think this could have a very positive effect as far as the watchtower is concerned for quite a few years.. the mood will be lifted.
there will be a whole new evening of freedom and the brothers will be happy for it, don't underestimate the goodwill this will generate.

Question... is this merger between bookstudy and TMS/Service Meeting going to change the length from 1.45 hours to something like 2.45? Or did they change the TMS/Service Meeting in my absence and I didn't notice?

So what caused you to have doubts in the first place?
by nicolaou ini had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.
in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.
i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

For starters: The Matrix. When I was about thirteen, I saw the movie and asked my dad, "How do we know we aren't living in The Matrix?" and his reply was "Because we have The Truth." Later, I argued with my mother that there was a chance, no matter how small, that we were wrong about the truth. Her reply was that there was absolutely no chance that we were wrong. None whatsoever. When pushed, she finally agreed that there was only a 0.01% chance that we were wrong.
The other big one: In grade eleven, I read W.O. Mitchell's 'Who Has Seen the Wind.' It revealed to me the Problem of Evil and how the Christian God really is a logical impossibilty. Needless to say, that kinda clinched things.

The least: my dad never being around because the flock was SO much more important.
The most: the odd times when my dad stopped being an elder and was just... yknow... my dad.

Every once in a while I'll be talking with an old friend from high school, and they'll mention something typical but extremely rude/stupid/illogical I said or did as a Witness back then, and we have a good laugh at it.
On the inside, I'm burning up with hatred for not only the people that made me that way, but for myself for not seeing what a joke my beliefs, actions and entire life was.
In short: embarassment and hatred.

Sounds a lot like me in high school... I don't know how I lived with the belief that the woman I loved would die very shortly.

Now that we're advertized on here, hopefully it'll fill up faster. :D Three cheers for being a facebook apostate!
Oh, and for those of you who don't know, there are active JW groups on facebook that are rediculously easy to troll, pretending to be a Jeho. Could be somewhere we can make serious progress... in the past week I've had about three JWs add me as a friend after seeing me in the group, saying something like "It's great to meet brothers and sisters from around the world! :)" ......effin priceless.

I don't even know why I was diffed. I mean, there were so many possible reasons, and I didn't go to my judicial meeting... I still don't know which one they got me on.
