Yes, what a witness they gave to the community and god,himself. Things like this show them up for what they are "having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power". I was taught that we were family, brothers and sisters. I cannot imagine going to a meeting instead of my own sister's funeral, even one I did not like. Some of us are never accepted or counted as valuable. It is a shame.

I am so happy to hear that your mom had a nice life though with her sweetheart. Things will get better.

Overcoming deep depression....success stories??

guys, for those who know me here, i apologize in advance for being such troublesome pain in the ass.

i have had some scary low spots these past two years, and was imo on way too many meds.

i really had a death wish for awhile, and do not want to revist that feeling.

Oompa, I'm so sorry for your pain. There are so many good thoughts already here. I would like to reiterate what others have said about the physical exercise. Don't dismiss it because it is a simple thing. I am a success story and this is what saved my life when all the pills couldn't help. I had read that if you could make yourself hit it hard for two weeks, something would change in your brain.

Looking back, I would say there were three things that gave me a new start in life.

Get a goal (for me, there was one thing that was important for me to do before I died)

Build yourself up to be able to realize the goal ( exercise)(Took me about six months to get there)

Find someone who truly cares for you.

We who have been there are all pulling for you.

years ago when studying for meetings, i used several different translations so i could make a comparison.

i could never find anything to support that one verse.

does anyone have any information on how they arrived at that?

Thanks, everyone. Snowbird, I am really surprised to see the word "women" in several of those translations. Back when my ex mate was studying, we started getting the feeling that it was unsupported in other translations. That was before our internet days. I have hardly been able to pick up a bible these past few years, but maybe that will change.

I am fed up with "Where else would I/We Go?"

it is a standard answer that i get from the few jw's that i speak with.. "the organization has it's flaws, but where else would we go to be among.

people who strive to do [jehovah's/god's] will?".

"Whom shall we go away to?" That is excellent. I first read that on this board a few days ago. That "where shall I go, what shall I do" thing is Scarlet O'Hara, I think.

Those people that would ask you "where else can you go?" have not yet been beaten (figuratively) within an inch of their life. When your very life is in danger, where do you go?

Out. Away from the immediate danger. You secure your life first, just as your instincts tell you.

i had no doubts at all about the 'truth' untill a friend of mine in the cong' began falling away.

in trying to help him i had to ask questions and do research and that of course cracked the doors of my mind open for the first time in over thirty years.. years ago, when jwd allowed members to have signatures, i used the following quote from voltaire as mine.

i still love it.. doubt is uncomfortable, certainty is ridiculous..

Boy, this was a tough question. Our very first doubt? It took a long time for me to come up with it, but I think it was when I was reading an old publication. I don't remember details at all, but it was something about the stance on the war. A group of witnesses tried to reason with the slave on some issue, but just couldn't get through.

This group fell away and, later on, it was admitted that they had been right. But according to the gb, they should have ignored their own consciences and gone along with the slave for unity! This was my first hint that there really might be no love, no humility, no fear of Jehovah.

I always wondered what happened to those people.

Thanks, Jeff. This was great - he did have a magnificent voice. Learning about the law of attraction was what filled the void for me when I first left that organization. What is hard to believe is that this stuff was around way back then and no one told us growing up. We must get this to our little ones in their formative years. And we will do that by applying it ourselves. Yes, that's the hard part - making our minds over.

I do believe these things are part of what the Bible tries to teach; but understanding the science behind those things will help us want to do them.

Aw, thanks to each and every one of you for the warm welcome. No, Velvetann, it's not my birthday; and yes, Jeff, I am a different one - a living one. haha. I never had heard of her. I look forward to getting to know you better and being more comfortable with posting. It is a terrible burden to not have anyone to talk to - can't talk to JW's and people outside could never understand if it's not physical abuse.

I know some of you know what I'm talking about. I'm glad I found this site and really, it does mean so much that you took the time to make me feel welcome.
