Remember how embarrassing it was to show up at someone's door on a holiday? When I was a teenager I went out with a very zealous pioneer sister on Christmas day.We worked an upscale neighborhood of town and of course all the servants were off so they would answer the door themselves.I rang one doorbell and a lady came to the door and I could see her family inside sitting in chairs in a circle opening gifts. They all looked at me to see who in the world was calling on Christmas,I suppose.I gave my presentation with a red face and she just looked at me and said"Don't you know today is Christmas?"How embarrassing is THAT?So glad I don't have to do that anymore.

Watchtower and Community Service
by hillbilly inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=40647&page=2&site=3#560224
if in fact, the recent donation of blood therapy equipment(refrenced in the link above) is a new chapter in watchtower community service i will be the first to applaud them.
however, i will reserve a negative attitude about accepting this action as a genuine act of altruism on the part fo the society.. how many of us, during our jw days participated in something as simple as a "walk-a-thon"?

I was told that community service was like putting a band-aid on a heart attack. They are so far away from something which was a big part of Jesus' ministry. He knew people needed help right then and he helped them. This is one area where witnesses are sorely lacking.

Were You At One Time, A Devout Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus inwhen you look back, were you considered by others a "devout" jw?
( michael jackson and family as well as the williams sisters have been charecterized as being "devout").
did you consider yourself sincere and devoted?
-
dsgal
Yes,I was a devout witness(service twice a week,rarely missed a meeting)although I never sang or played tennis.Probably would have been reprimanded if I had.

Why the Ambivalence?
by Robdar infor the past day or two, i have been having conflicting feelings of hatred and then nostalgia for the org.
after reading bay64me's thread entitled "crisis of wardrobe!
", i fondly recalled shopping for those dowdy dresses, trying to find the perfect match between what i liked and what the society dictated for me to wear.

Like I said,I don't have sentimental feelings about the hall and I am NOT lying. What is there to feel sad about when you were just an outcast? They're probably just as glad I'm gone as I am to be gone.I guess that's why none of the elders have been by in the whole ten months since I left.No one has the right to accuse someone of lying unless they have walked in their shoes.

Have you joined another religion?
by freedom96 ini don't think i will never join another organized religion.
that being said however, i have enjoyed going on occasion to non-denominational churches, watching the band play music, and the speaker.
if you did or would attend another church regularly, which one would you go to and why?
-
dsgal
No I would not join another religion but I have been to several functions at my uncle's Assembly of God church and they were very welcoming and friendly compared to the cold callousness of the witnesses. It didn't even seem to bother anyone that I wasn't a member.

I wouldn't understand because I was never part of a gang.I was just a reject who never got invited to anything. But I guess it must be nostalgic for those who actually had friends there.
