i am so nervous, after thirty odd years in the "truth" i feel as though my husband and i have just walked into a room full of smiling strangers and we are just standing here hoping to god someone will come up and speak to us.
scared and excited and hoping to wake up one morning and not wonder what we do now???

Hi Fran,
The collective opinion here is that life is much better after leaving. My wife and I left in our late 50s, and have found that to be so true. You now have time to pursue things that really interest you. Having more time allows you to find out what really interests you, should your prior range of interest have been as narrow as the organization recommends.
Here's to you enjoying your life to the full!

We once had a group of 15 or so musicians from the Watchtower orchestra dining at a very nice restaurant across from Carnegie Hall (Trattoria des Artistes--expensivo!). I am not exaggerating when I say it took over 15 minutes to apportion the bill. By that time, two of us were on the verge of simply splitting the bill between us, just to get out of there. There were at least two musicians with calculators. Thank god we weren't with a group of engineers or accountants!

After the adverse judgment against them WT filed an appeal with the California State Court of Appeal. Their opening appellate brief is due today. You should use this site's search function to see the various threads on this. Usually an appeal is made if it is believed that a procedural error was made by the lower court. Once we review the opening brief, we will be able to read their arguments in support of their appeal.

There is nothing on the court's docket as of 3:40 p.m. PT. The court closes around 4:30 p.m. and whatever WT is going to file must be filed by then. Sometimes if papers are filed late in the day, they don't show up on the docket until the next day.

. . . that is unless the parties stipulate to another continuance. Hopefully they'll file it and we can see their arguments. The documents will not be available online. Whoever wants to obtain them (i.e., Barbara Anderson, JW Leaks, etc.) will have to use an attorney service to obtain copies. I recommend Nationwide Legal, LLC, (213) 249-9999. They are based in Los Angeles but have an office in San Francisco. Their research department handles the copying of court filings. It will be interesting to see what arguments are raised in their brief.

please help
by joyfulfader ini am posting to ask this group of wonderful people to help my friend who is with me now.
we are discussing her serious doubts and the barriers she is facing as the wife of an elder with small children.
she is desperately looking for help to pull away without causing dissention in her otherwise very good marriage.

If they've had any conversations where they both expressed some criticism of anything organization-related, she might revisit those subjects with him, and build from there. Of course broaching those subjects would best be handled in a conversation already in progress that could naturally lead to those subjects.

A picture so outrageous, it deserves its own thread...
by cedars ini mean no disrespect to sd-7 or his fine thread on which this picture has already featured, but i think it is just so ridiculous that it deserves a thread all of its own.. lurkers and apologists, this is how your precious organization views itself.... behold the madness.... .

When taken to task over mistakes made at any level of the depicted hierarchy the response is always, "we're human, imperfect." I think an appropriate subtitle for this picture would be "Human Imperfection in Action!"

Yesterday Grandpa died a faithful JW.... or was he.
by cyberjesus inyesterday at 3 am my grandfather.. 95 more or less... passed away after a heart attack... i got the call at 8 am.
so i am the oldest grandson (out of 40) he was faithful, (thats what they want to say) reality is he wasnt, he cursed, he drank, he had plenty of women during his life.. he was an elder at some point and he was ultra good with everyone.
he had a heart of gold... he treated me as his son, he never cared about my status.
