When you start with the premise that the Governing Body is God's channel, everything else (including "The Truth") must conform to the current teachings, policies and direction of the Governing Body. It doesn't have to be logical, reasonable, humane, or loving.

Discussion with some elders
by GoUnion inhello everyone just wanted to relate a situation that occurred a few days ago.
so i have quit going to meetings for a few months now based on some issues i have with the explanations of current doctrines.
my wife is none too happy with this but over the last few months we have had some date nights and have tentitively agreed to disagree.

Welcome to the board.
It sounds like the elders you spoke with were more open minded than many. I also sounds like your approach is healthy with regard to your wife. I would suggest following the elders' advice (wth the exception of your wife, of course). Just be prepared that if your wife begins to wake up and the elders notice, an investigation and, likely, a judicial meeting will follow.

Thanks WTBS for changing the Kingdom Songs, you freed me!
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i saw a picture of a family signing kingdom melodies together.
it made me realize a fact that i am somewhat ashamed to admit:.
for over a decade, i have been aware of the false prophecies, the deceptive statements, the lack of scriptural support for many core practices and other issues with the witnesses.

Having been involved in the early stages of the new song book, I usually contribute to these threads. I don't want to repeat what I've posted elsewhere except to say that the only positive aspect I see in the new book is that it contains fewer songs.
Another thought occurs to me in connection with the OP and this goes to human nature.
We all naturally associate memories with music. The quality of the music doesn't matter so much. Each generation has "its music." And, probably since the beginning of time, the older generation has berated the music of the younger generation.
The present generation of Witnesses will be connecting their memories to the music of the new songbook and should the organization survive long enough to produce yet another new songbook, the present generation will rail against any changes contained in that new songbook.
And so it goes . . .

Will firing the DOs be the first step to a new Watchtower?
by Juan Viejo2 inagainst my better judgement, i've decided to share the following as a response to guy pierce passing and the announcement of the elimination of district overseers later this year.. late in january (2014) i got an email from one of my contacts (a fader) who served at bethel for several years, but is no longer at wt hq.
he still has a lot of close contacts within the service department and in other departments at patterson and knows people in all of the ny offices.
i kept this email set aside on a flash drive and haven't shared it with anyone - figuring i'd publish an article about it later this year when i had more time to do it right.

In years gone by, the Witnesses used to pride themselves in bucking "worldly trends." It was evidence that they were relying on Jehovah, and Jehovah was blessing and protecting them. This was offered as solid proof that the Witnesses were God's only approved religion. Successfully going counter to the trends of the day, doctrinally, socially and economically, was possible prior to the digital age.
Not so any more.
Those who discern the leadership adjusting to survive in today's world, will realize that God is not blessing and protecting their organization. I think it's safe to say that the inevitable "new Watchtower" will have fewer members.

I did it !!!!
by snare&racket in7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.
i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.
i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.

I'm not trying to brag, but being an EXJW is awesome!!! Status Update-
by Coffee House Girl inhello jwn!
i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.
i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

Welcome. Take your time to determine what you believe. Assuming you're still married, I hope your awakening will have a positive impact on your marriage. Life is so much better without the burden of the WT religion.

As of a couple of years ago, Prince was attending the Beverly Hills Congregation where he is referred to as Brother Nelson. I attended that congregation for over 40 years. The elders there are quite vocal about "upholding Jehovah's standards." So for me personally, the double standard afforded Prince really stands out.

Do you know that he was disfellowhipped for adultery? He may have been disfellowshipped for abandonment, which it sounds like this was.
