  possible reason for end of BS?

  it occurrd to me that maybe there was some independent thinking going on in the bs.

  maybe the gb was afraid of small groups thinking too muchand having them all meet at the kh would put paid to any groups that were becoming a bit liberal.

  as is known small bible study or at study groups were not allowed at bethel.

  We've done some speculating on this in the past weeks. The two leading reasons that most think that they jammed the congregation book study are:

  1. Elder burnout. The elder ranks are diminishing rapidly. No younger ones are rising up to take control (because college is poisoning their minds and they are leaving the Truth) and the existing elders are too old, too overworked, or a combination of the two.

  2. Too much personal research and a willingness to discuss findings at the book study. Some people now realize that the internet has an infinite amount of useful information. They don't hesitate to look things up. What do they find? That "secular" information differs greatly from Watchtower information. So much so that in many cases it is ONLY the Watchtower that believes certain things without evidence. It's not completely unusual for people to bring printouts of stuff they've found on wikipedia to the book study. They're less likely to do this at the Sunday meeting because of the hundreds of eyes.

  We don't know for sure why they did it. We don't have any moles on the governing body, unfortunately.

  The only thing we can be sure of is that it had nothing to do with the "faithful and discreet slave" being directed by the Jesus.

  i noticed it yesterday while sitting in the sunday indoctrination session.

  the article for next weeks watchtower study talks about viewing other people as jehovah views them.

  Firstly, forgive me for not being able to quote the article directly. I noticed it yesterday while sitting in the Sunday indoctrination session. The article for next weeks Watchtower study talks about viewing other people as Jehovah views them. It stresses overlooking faults and imperfections.

  One of the things that stuck out for me is that there are a couple of paragraphs that deal with judging. I am paraphrasing heavily here: Jehovah is the only judge of men. We as humans cannot judge other human beings and we cannot read or see what is truly in their hearts. People who are in the organization do things and have faults but Jehovah sees the future and what they will become.

  Doesn't this directly contradict the whole purpose of a judicial committee? How can you forcibly remove someone from the congregation and force everyone else to ignore their presence comlpetely, even family members, if Witnesses are not to be the judges of men?

  Or is this just a slow lead-in to them doing away with disfellowshipping eventually in a few years?

  Is the WTS planning on going mainstream?

  been thinking with all the changes announced and more yet to be announced by all accounts, is the wts planning a major shift into mainstream religion?.

  As another message said, I think they are sending mixed messages right now as well. More and more they are giving "Christians" more room to make their own judgments on "matters of conscience". Some of these are things that they would have just said were just plain wrong in times past. Even with the removal of the book study they are reducing the number of weekly requirements of the Witnesse rank and file.

  At the same time, they are coming down on colleges and universities with a ferocity that hasn't been seen since the late sixties and early seventies. I would hardly call encouraging ignorance mainstream.

  I think this attack on education is pretty much a last ditch effort to stop the bleeding, the people draining away from the Organization as they find out that their brains are actually good for something other than memorizing scriptures like Psalms 83:18 and Revelation 21:3,4.

  With the economy getting worse, with no sign of getting better any time in the next 5 years or so, I don't think this will work. JW parents will NOT discourage their kids from seeking higher education. The reasoning will be that they are not "seeking riches" but that their college kids are trying to be self-sufficient.

  When this last tactic fails, and the remaining elders are too old or too burnt out to successfully maintain entire congregations, they will have no choice but to open the flood gates, so to speak. They will have to become at least a bit more mainstream and change more of their doctrines, possibly even reversing some. I think they know that they will lose many current members to the changes but might gain even more by appealing to the masses.

  The following: I have amassed a large amount of debt buying ridiculous and needless purchases. But the end will be here soon so I won't have to pay for all of these things anyway.

  This was 13 years ago. This fine person is divorced and on the verge of filing bankruptcy. And no, he no longer goes to any JW meetings.

  Were There ANY WT. Publications That You Actually Enjoyed?

  i used to love reading the aid/insight books.. questions from readers was always something i read first when i got my watchtower.. i even liked the truth book because it was pretty detailed in jw beliefs and was an easy read.. was there any publication from the society that you enjoyed reading?

  Even though there was alot of guessing conjecture in it, I liked the Greatest Man book. It was well written and because it was mostly telling a story, it wasn't packed full of blatant lies and deceit. At least until towards the end, but you knew that was going to happen. I wouldn't suggest that anybody take it to be accurate historically, but for literature it is among their best.
