Wow. I had some theories but they weren't as well thought out as this. It makes perfect sense. Not only do they not want the young people leaving but they want them stupid and making babies. Your point about being dependent on the parents makes sense, too. Hopefully this tactic will fail.

BTW, what does an Adam and Eve ringtone sound like?
LOL, I know, right? Can we even listen to it before we buy it? Does it sound like a man and a woman doing the dirty in the grass?
Some of these advertisements are funny.

I don't think it is true because it doesn't make any sense, for many reasons.
1. According to Bible chronology, Adam and Eve would have to have been created less than seven thousand years ago. You could, of course, argue that the chronology is wrong and that Moses miscalculated. But if that is the case then you invalidate his divine inspiration. If you invalidate his divine inspiration then you also invalidate Genesis. Since it's pretty clear that humans have been here longer than six or seven thousand years, the Adam and Eve story doesn't fit.
2. The story makes God seem a little clumsy and careless. He puts two trees in the "garden". One is the tree of life and the other is the tree of knowledge. The tree of life grants everlasting life. He doesn't tell them where that tree is. He hides it in with the rest of them. They don't even know it exists. He does tell them where the tree of knowledge is, though. Then he tells them that it's wrong to eat from it. Then why put it there? To test their loyalty? But he created them. If they fail to be loyal, then whose fault is that? Why give them free will if he is going to punish them for using it?
3. The serpent doesn't make any sense. Is the serpent supposed to be Satan? Do snakes talk on their own? Do other animals talk? Why would Eve listen to a talking snake? That would seem out of the ordinary if the other animals can't talk.
4. If God could create Adam out of dust, why was his rib required to build Eve? DNA? Couldn't God have just used a strand of hair or a fingernail or something?
5. Why punish all of their eventual offspring? This sounds evil and vindictive. Furthermore, he makes them imperfect and then punishes them for being so.
It's utter nonsense, really, if you just think about it.

The new version also has some more reference information in the back. I am not sure how useful it is as I have not looked at it but I know that it is there.

Big News or rumor!
by Burger Time ina friend just informed me that the c/o in his hall will be instructing the elders that anyone with a child in college will be stripped of privileges in the hall.
i am not sure if this is true this is just what i was told.
it could be that it is only a campaign directed at him as he has some ties to ex-jw's and some how got found out.

That would be the second most ridiculous rule ever made in the history of bone-headed rules made by the WBTS. The first, of course, being the "no blood" rule--which I think they would like to change but because of the backlash they are forced to stick to it.
What about elders and servants who are driving around in $50,000+ cars and trucks? Why couldn't they equally be held back from services and such? The logic would be the same. They are pursuing the "valueless things" of the world instead of pursuing giving their lives away. If they kept their eye "simple" they'd go get a 1988 Toyota Corolla for $600.
What about brothers that own their own businesses, some of which being fairly lucrative? Would they have to lose their positions as well? Why can't they work as a high school janitor and devote more time for passing out worthless pieces of paper at the train station?

Why do you put up with crap off your JW famlies?
by dawg ini see where many of you have jw family members that give you a ration of crap once in a while; i've heard many rationalizations as to why some of you refuse to speak out.
as many of you know, i wrote a series of letters and exposed my apostasy formerly; in the letters i told my family they had better beware of shunning me of treating me like a pile when they run into me, i realized that i couldn't make them accept me into their houses, but in public was a different matter.
i basically told them that in public, especially at funerals, that i would rain down a load of crap on any family member that shunned me or treated me badly in anyway.

Dove wrote "I love them and worry about losing their love. How pathetic is that? I think it's normal, actually. I need them and they, to a certain point, need me. It's best not to burn bridges".
How can someone profess love to you and then not care what you think, not listen to your opinions? It's not love if someone can't accept you.Because their minds have been turned to jelly by the Watchtower, that's how. And because of that you cannot expect them to respond to things in the same way as a person who is not indoctrinated by the Society. The Society has made them irrational and unthinking. Everyone has to get to a point that they are comfortable. Some people are perfectly fine with denouncing the Organization and losing their close family ties--mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, etc. I do not think that makes them more brave than the person who doesn't want to lose these connections. You can argue that they are cowards, but choosing to live with and maintain relationships with the only family you might ever have is not a cowardly thing. Let me ask you this question. When slavery was legal in the United States, some blacks tried to escape. This was brave, of course. They did it with the possibility of being caught and killed and also they would lose their family and friends. Some chose to stay for various reasons. Some stayed out of fear of physical violence by the white man, but some did not want to leave their husbands, wives, or children. They had family ties there. Were the ones that stayed cowardly? Surely all of them were not. The Society has done an excellent job. You can be free from them, but you may never be free of the lasting and burning effects of their hold. They will scar the remainder of your life forever. It is, of course, your option if you want the scar. At the same time, I can see your point. If more people stood up to the wrongful practices of the Organization in a concerted effort, things might change. The Organization might change its stance or possibly others might leave. It's sort of like going to war. You have to be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice and many people aren't willing to do that. Especially since everybody has not bought into that idea. er

So we had our book study last night. We are nearing the end of the insane Revelation book. You know, the one that the Watchtower says is 100% symbolic except for that bit about the 144,000 chosen ones? Yeah, that one.
We got to the part where Jesus (here represented clearly as a sun deity) destroys all of the wicked and then he invites carrion birds to feast on the corpses of the people that he has just wasted. Our book study overseer (I hate that word; It makes me think I am a slave on a southern plantation in 1789) continues to go on about how children should be baptized at 12 or 13 because if they wait too long they will be "bird food." Yes, he actually said that. Of course, it was followed by a bunch of "Mmm-hmms" and so on from the other people in the study.
Someone commented and made the worst analogy I have ever heard in favor of pre-teen or early-teen baptism. She says that she heard a circuit overseer say that if they are old enough to choose what TV shows they watch, what kinds of clothes they wear, what kind of video games they want to play, then they are old enough to choose which god they are going to serve.
What the hell? Choosing which god to worship and agreeing to sign your life away forever to a human organization are two completely different things. How can you compare making a choice between Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog to dedicating your life to a religious group?
What is wrong with these people?
Furthermore, if Revelation is meant to be symbolic (except for those lucky 144,000), then one would also have to assume that the bird feast is also symbolic. The Revelation book doesn't shed any light on that bit, though. Mostly because it doesn't make any sense.

Wars/increased violence proves Armageddon is imminent : Peace and security proves Armageddon is imminent.
That one by far is the worst one for me and I have never been able to truly understand it. One the one hand nations are supposed to be declaring worldwide peace and security--which suggests that there are no major conflicts and everything is hunky dory. On the other hand, it is supposed to be a time of war and increased violence? Hello? Does anyone else noticed that these two things cannot exist at the same time?

There was a time when I thought that some doctrinal changes might be enough to make me not mind being a JW. I thought that maybe the blood doctrine could be effectively done away with, the abuse of the idea of college education, labeling people who don't participate as much in activities, etc.
But that was when I still believed in religion and I still believed in a personal deity.
Over the past couple years I have come to the conclusion that there isn't a god that is involved in anything that is happening on this earth right now. I'm not outrightly denying the existence of a "superior" being. They could have been space aliens that seeded the earth fifty-thousand years ago for all I know.
I think that religion now is a total waste of time and mental energy. It is the cause of much of the evil that goes on in the world. That last bit may be less important. I am pretty much convinced that people will be violently disagreeable regardless of the issue. But religion makes things easy because you can claim that you are only doing with your deity told you to do.
